AL TOEFIELD MEMORIAL ROAD RACE

Do 4/5; you'll have a better chance of earning upgrade points. Masters is a 1234 field.
I had fun in the Masters field last week. Will do that again.
Master's race is going to be a massive beat down. I am happy to be rolled into the young guys so I don't get clubbed like a baby seal by the Axis guys.

For the Cat 4/5 the plan here is to make Major Taylor do the work to control this race. They have 6 guys and their responsiblity should be to control the race. Of course that may mean they're looking for a sprint. If that is the case we should be looking for a breakaway. Lets not go too early, we should focus our attacks on the 2nd half of the race, and try to draw a Major Taylor rider with us. One hopes they will block for their rider up the road and keep the rest of the field in check.

I'll be in the 40+ field and Axis will have a hard time clubbing anybody after I kick them right in their nuts!  Upload a pic of that !

I just signed up for the 1/2/3.  I see that Daniel and Michael are with me.  Anyone else joining up?

Me.

This is the final race of the NY Cycling Series (I don't know what happened to Blistered Butt on 8/18, it's now the PP Challenge but who cares).

Double points! Perlberg and Ragot have shots at winning the overall. I have no idea what the prizes are.
Khan.  I have GOT to do some TT homework on saturday (skipped it last week) ahead of Catskills.
Bummed to miss this one.
Signed up for the 40+. Let the beat down begin
I'm in for the Masters.
We are fielding a nice looking team for the Masters field.  I think it best if we ALL stay towards the front.  A break can go in that field anywhere and if you miss it, the other teams are very good at shutting the race down.  We should always send a rider after the break attempts.  Yacks
I'm avoiding the beat down and rolling with the young guys. Dan, Ben, lets have some fun.

Ima be outta town.
Team Kissena Geesers!

Agree with Yacks about getting a guy in the break. I'm excited that we have six guys in a Masters—is that a record?
Can we figure out a way harness the unbridled power of "Boom Boom" Yacks to take the sprint?
Or perhaps breakaway artists Condon, Stokes, Patrick or Tony can be dropped into the winning move.
It's going to 13mph head wind (from right) sprint, possibly still wet.

Axis, Deno's and Brauer you can bet will be going all out for a breakaway. Axis are particularly strong, I don't see anything happening without them in a break. Major Taylor will fancy themselves for the sprint. There's definitely a couple of handy sprinters we should be marking: Yohan Burrowes (W.S. United), Sergio Aguirre (Dave Jordan), Frank Arroyo (Brauer).

Thoughts?

I think I'm grumpy as Sh*t I can't join you guys right now.
^ Sorry Jules, no 18yr olds allowed in Masters. ^
@john glad you're joining the 40 plussers.  I'm not sure if this is a Kissena record. We had a pretty good crew last weekend and the first of this series too.  Last week nothing got away but it wasn't for lack of trying. People were going off virtually every lap. We did a good job of patrolling the front and covering. Jules put himself into a lot of breaks. The Bike Planet guys were a particular force, especially on the last lap when the set up a train going into the sprint.

Ragot got into a an 8 man break at the first race of this series. Axis, Deno's and Brauer were all represented.

Looking forward to this.
Only 40 pre-reg'd for the 123!!!!

Small field and wet. It's going to be just like Floyd.

My guess is that the field will sit if the right group is up the road. United has an army racing. There needs to be at least 1-2 of them in the move for it to stick. They'll probably send Tom up the road and then Paul or Jermaine will bridge. Stalin and the Somerville boys will wheelsuck and generally ride ridiculously, but they'll be there when it counts. Jared from Mengoni rode well in the break on Tuesday. United will be watching him, so maybe it's a better idea to bridge on Tony Taylor's wheel.

If it ends in a sprint, Ricky and Stalin will beat you every time. Let's string it out or try some last minute heroics so we can get out of their way.

Psyched for this one. I'm so ready to work.
John you have a loooonnnngggg sprint.  The kind you can sit behind, but can't come around.  I would be happier driving towards the front with you on my wheel in the finale.  Breaks will happen though.  I will follow as many as I can.  Perhaps we should make it a point to mass at the front as a team?  I would like to stay top 10 for the entire race...yacks
Oh yeah, this is a series. Double points and the fact that everything is so close is making my brain hurt. I think that statistically it's still wide open, so tactically the only thing we should expect is for United and Somerville to neutralize each other while Lynn Murray looks to win the sprint.

I like our chances in the break.
I'm in for some leg-breaking.

I think it will be dry.

just looked at the prereg.  THe winning break will need either John Loehner or Dan Zmolik from AXA/Stans.
Kyle Murphy? Animal! People will be following him.

Unfortunately, the BOA lacing system on my right shoe has been slowly wearing out since April until yesterday at Floyd, when it stopped working completely; I just wrenched it as much as it could to obtain a tension sufficient for riding. The buckle on the right shoe of my older shoes is broken, and my brother's shoes are two sizes too small. I really regret that I won't be racing tomorrow. Now, A few know I have placed in the top 10 wearing a sneaker (forgot to bring both shoes)...but that was Cat 5...

Anyway, the ratchet unit became inoperable, such that I ended up ripping it out with the laces tonight. The problem was the plastic lining around the metal lace became cut at one point in the ratchet mechanism, got caught on edge, and caused a ton of mechanical resistance that eventually ruined the cable in a few other places.

If anyone has encountered this problem (having to replace a BOA lacing system)...please let me know how you went about it. I have lake cx401 shoes. \

Thanks,
Christian
Sorry I'm going to miss this one. Last weeks master's race was good hard fun. You guys have a competitive team out there. Show em there's another squad of old guys who can throw down.
I'm not going to be there I'm afraid. Still out on the town.
Christian, same thing happened to me--packing tape will see you through, then go to boa online and they warranty you new bezels/cable -- order two.

Quick Report:

Me 5th, JP 7th

We got into a break with John Durso, John Loehner, Jermaine Burrowes, Jared Bunde, and Franklin Burgos.

It was really hard. Normalized power ~300 watts for an hour. 15 x 10 second spikes over 700 watts. Ouch ouch.

Toward the end, Loehner was attacking us relentlessly. JP and the Franklin got dropped with about 2 to go. I was almost dropped with 1 to go. I hung in. Attack attack attack.

A lot of cat and mouse shit. I jumped hard for a long sprint. It was not quite enough and the rest rolled around me, so I ended up 5th. Very hard day out there. A little bummed to not get a better result but those guys are the real deal I guess.

I got 2nd in the series and went home with a big trophy.

We rode very well as a team. For a 4 man group to have 2 in the winning break and 2 in the top 10 is a pretty big deal.

Excellent riding by everyone today.  Michael, Vlad, Daniel, and myself were not only at the front, but in the moves from the beginning.

The race was aggressive from the start.  Luckily, Scott Savory was working hard to get into breaks.  This made it easy for us--if Scott was going up there, he was going to be an anchor on anyone who is off the front.  We figured that the Somerville Team was trying to get one of their guys into the break, that Mengoni was riding for Cesar Marte, that WS United would ride to get Jermaine into the break.

The race seemed fast for the first laps, and we were well-represented.  Several times big groups formed, like 15-20 and looked like htey could ride away.

Somehwere, possibly with 9 or 8 to go, one such big group did get a good gap.  I think we were all in it.  Then Loehner attacked on the hill. I couldn't match him, but was ahead of everyone else.  When the others came up, it was just the group Mike mentioned.  It was perfect.  I didn't see how we could get caught.  Everyone, save Franklin, was an excellent breakaway rider.

Bunde had a team behind, as did Jermaine, as did we.  Franklin didn't pull, not that I expected him to.  Both Jared and Loehner complained at first, then ignored.  Then, told him not to sprint for the primes.  We didn't sprint for hte primes at all. And Franklin didn't--he took possibly three pulls all race.

Loehner's only move is to attack the break.  Jermaine's move is to ride with someone else, then sprint. Everyone else was somewhere in between.  I figured Loehner would attack with two to go, and he did.  I was the guy who got dropped.  Franklin made it back on.

I'm amazed I held on for seventh.  I think I kept the chase away with a decent gap.

looking forward to looking at the race file.  Should be interesting.  I think the racing has gotten much faster over the year, which is hard to notice unless your off the front.

Quick report from the Masters race.

We had a good group in the race. First half was pretty steady with lots of guys instituting breaks. We did a good job of patrolling the front, covering breaks and getting in them though nothing materialized.

With 4 to go there was a big accleration on the hill and a big group got a gap. I was able to hold on to the end of this and work my way into it. The group was probably about 12 or 13 guys with representation from all the major teams (I believe). The break was pretty disorganized with a few guys taking long pulls and some sitting up. A Rockstar Games guy started barking commands to take 5 second pulls. That worked a bit better but there was still a lot of accelerations and sitting up. I was barely holding on but would take a quick pull when I got to the front. At the hills people jumped and picked up the pace only to rest over the top. These were the hardest part and I'd get gapped but then catch on.

From what Stokes tells me two other Axis guys bridged up at some point so they ended up with 4 in the break of what was now about 15. I also heard we almost got caught before that.

On the final lap there was an accleration on the hill but I managed to stay 5 or 6 wheel through it. I got swarmed a bit at the top and fades back. I was able to move up around the bandshell and witnessed an Axis train forming at the top of the decent. I jumped on that in hopes of a free ride. They were a bit disorganized though accelerating and slowing down and ultimately breaking up the train.

At the temple there was a bit of jockeying and I latched on to a Rockstar guy (I think) and was 8th or 9th. Came around after the crest and put the hammer down to get 7th.

I had to stick around to get paid (just made the cut) so I had to skip out on coffee. I owe the Masters guys muffins with my winnings next time.
