Just a quick reminder, there are basically two local cyclocross weekends left.

There's a new race Grinchy Groundhog Express Cyclocross put together by the HPCX & Rutgers crews. Literally at Rutgers University, about 45 minutes from Brooklyn.
Let's go race bikes!
The Dublin World Cups Elite Races were incredible

Last weekend Eloy, James and I raced Orchard Scorcher in CT. First race that I have done that included a corn maze feature. It was super slippy and muddy when we pre-rode it but had dried up a bit by the time we raced. It had certain speed limits but it was fun to see how far we could push them.

As usual I have on board video on youtube and some clips below

Eloy and I wrapped up our cross campaigns (you like "campaigns"? makes it sound serious) last weekend at a new race on the Livingston campus of Rutgers University. Course was dry and fast in an athletic field. They made good use of the hillsides with some whoopty doos, off camber, and even a volleyball court sand pit. It was a super windy day so tape was blowing all over the place. Almost got tangled up a few times, but it never got input my wheels or gears. As has been the case most all season I was chasing Eloy all race even though he had raced the day before at Ice Weasels.

By the way, my primary reason for making the videos is for me to go back and to see what to work on to catch Eloy ;-)

But seriously aside from figuring out what to improve, it is a great record of the battles with Eloy, Marc, Tom, James and other CX friends.

Re: Ben

File this one under even @Jules will rant

During today’s cyclocross races, I tracked updates via the CXHairs Slack. Men Elite Highlights: Brunner crashed out but seems okay, Strohmeyer made the top 20, Cam Mason killed it, and Ben Frederick DNFed after one lap. Then came the news:

"Ben was pulled mid-race because his bikes didn’t have UCI stickers."

Haha funny joke..., wait... No no, turns out It’s true!!

No investigation or conversation, no potential DQ or fine post race, just yanked mid-race. Mosaic submitted his custom frames to the UCI for the stickers months ago, and he simply showed proof post-race. He’s now told he did everything right and is expected to race tomorrow in Zonhoven. Unreal.

Sports betting is out of control.

While we may still be in the Holy Week of Cycling (Ronde to Roubaix), #crossiscoming.

Always

Mark your calendars, the American UCI calendar is out. In addition to some classic races like Rochester, Charm, Really Rad, we see the addition of PanAms in DC in November. Also it looks like NOHO is back to being a UCI race.

Giddyup!

Because #cxiscoming
New tape, stem, brakes bars(?) forthcoming. This old warhorse is going to ride again!

LFG!
Cross is Coming!

The first cross race of the season is one month from today!

Can you believe that Blunt Park CX on 8/24?

I have posted the annual Kissena CX calendar Google Sheet with Bikereg links to all the races (so far). I encourage you to use this resource to plan ride sharing with teammates. Let people know if you are planning on going and if you have a ride or need a ride. After all, CX is awesome but involves a lot of traveling. Feel free to add races as they show up on Bikereg.

Check out the calendar here
Given that cross is coming sooner rather than later, we need to plan the Kissena CX kick off and clinic. Every year we meet up in Cunningham Park to dust off our CX skills (e.g. cornering, mounts, remounts, starts) as well as some trail riding for fun. Newbies to CX are welcome! (knobby tires are required).

So lets pick a date: Aug 16, 17, 23, or 24? We can also do it in early September, but if you look at the CX calendar you’ll see that the races are in full swing at that point. Feel free to suggests other dates.

Head over to Slack and complete the poll

CROSS IS COMING!

Wait, isn't it still August!? Yup, but the first CX race of the season is coming on 8/24, so it's time to get used to doing silly stuff like remounting your bike while jogging. If you are a seasoned CX rider, this is the time to dust off your rig and practice your skills. For the uninitiated, Kissena hosts a clinic where you can find out what the fuss is about and kick off the cross season with some skills and trail riding. If you are new to CX... well, let's just say you might be sore afterwards. Either way, it will be fun.

Date: This Sunday, Aug. 17th
Time: 8:30 a.m.- until we are tired

Where: Cunningham Park - Grass field on 199th St just north of Union Turnpike. Across street from this Google Map link

We will run through a series of drills to help you get ready for the first cross races of the season. Expect 1.5-2 hours running around like crazy people on grass with impractical bikes. Afterwards we can head to the trails for an awesome time. One year an ice cream truck came by and we got vanilla soft serve with sprinkles. It was boss.

Discuss how to get to Cunningham or carpool info in this thread.

What you'll need:
A cyclocross bike (Gravel and mountain bikes are ok, but you must have mountain pedals -- no road pedals!)
[note: post a message on the forum if you want to borrow a bike]
Helmet
Spare tube
Water
Snack
Ice cream truck money

FYI i have a spare bike to lend out - best for someone 5'9 +/- inch. It's not pretty but it'll do.
This a (non comprehensive) cyclocross race calendar "races in my radar"
I would love to hit most of these, but unless my pro athlete budget changes, I might only be able to hit a few, will be looking for to bum drives to races more than ever.

As mentioned, non comprehensive, there might be other races on some of these dates, and if it didn't have a reg page yet, also left it out.

Some of us have seen the best in the world race the Nationals course, now it could be our turn!
More than likely my CX season won't start until Oct and I'll be limited to maybe 1-2 in Oct and Nov. Short list of races I'm considering, esp. if we can get a crew together in the lower categories so race schedules are aligned. I mostly can't be gone overnight so these would be one day out and back trips.
