Local Cross schedule, as seen on bikereg today:

With the exception of the CT races, which are about 1.5 hours, all are within an hour's drive of NYC.  You can take NJ transit to within 10mi of Jamesburg, and probably about that close to bubble cross.   

There are probably races scheduled for december in Long island, but haven't been posted to bikereg yet.

the course was fast and furious; a power rider's delight. Just a touch of mud in the swamp but otherwise a relentless parcours.

While I wouldn't go so far as to say I was "good" I felt much better than I did last week; didn't get lapped and won my finish line duel with a NJMB dude.

Rain now and tonight; tomorrow's course will be "complicated."

Saw CrossVegas aka the first-ever CX World Cup in the Americas.  The women's race looked like other crossvegas women's races, except that there were some Euros trying to beat the luna chix--Nash winning solo and Compton not looking impressive is old hat.  

But the men, wow.  It was fast and furious the whole way through.  I ran around taking in different vantage points, and early on it was an elbow-to-elbow crit, and when Van Aert attacked, it was like adding a few gears to blistering.   Even on the penultimate lap, everyone in the top 20 looked like they were still sprinting with full gas out of every turn, and they went into the turns so hard I was expecting guys to slide out.

Zach McDonald, the guy who was so impressive at last year's nationals, was about as out of the race as I was when it was merely a UCI event (when he was at the front).

Took pictures.  I'll find out if any were good on Friday, when I ahve a chance to sit down and examine them.

(didn't see Feehan).  Missed the wheelers and dealers, heard there were some funny schenanigans from the Van Dessel crew.  Look for a guy getting a Jack Daniels handup.

Part of the reason this was, is because more of the world's best women call US cross racing home than other places. I said it last year, after literally watching most every pro race in the Midatlantic and New England regions, week to week, the women put on a better show than the men. More lead changes, more aggression, more drama.

(This year, so far at Nittany, excitement win goes to a more stacked men's field with tight-ish races for the podium ensured that the dude lions won out last weekend. We'll see who tears it up the baddest at Gloucester though.)

6 of the top 10 in the women's race race primarily in the US, specifically, New England/MidAtlantic. 13 of the top 20 are US based riders.

I love cross out here. I get to see many/all/some of them race weekend after weekend. Just by driving 2 hours this way or that from NYC.

Now as far as the men's race? Holy crap, Powers great race! Surprise of the day? Trebon in 12th after a LONG layoff. Wow, that's outstanding. Although I'm equally surprised by Curtis White in 20th and Adam Craig in 22nd (you wouldn't think a pedal/hp heavy course would favor the MTB technician). On the other end of the spectrum, Summerhill in 32nd (where's your roadie fitness when you need it!), Hyde in 51st and Page in 57th smell of, "run-roh, back to the drawing board" to me. Maybe Summerhill is tired, and Page has given up, but Hyde? He needs to be better.

Edit. Just read that Page flatted far from the pits. Maybe he ain't done yet...

Hyde was actually on back of front group 4 laps in when it exploded. Everyone at limit and people starting making mistakes at stairs and barriers. Crashes started and gaps established. Keep in mind how few races Hyde has done at that level. That may have been first cross race of year. Talk about deep end!
