Team Sprint for cat 1/2/3s, NY State Champs, Aug 18

Was wondering if there any cat 1/2/3s out there that would like to form a team sprint with me for the state track champs on Aug 18! All our other trackies who responded to my other post about the champs are cat 4, seemingly leaving me on my lonesome, hence this desperate post. Don't all volunteer at once, but it'd be great fun and we'd stand a good chance of getting a medal (I think). I could do either the first lap or second lap (lap three would kill me) - open to negotiation...Any half-decent road sprinters would make an excellent team sprinter on a track like Kissena.

@eragot, surely this is the perfect opportunity for you to dust off your track bike?!

@Kieranleahy - I sold it last year to help fund a new CX bike... I am supposed to be on Fire Island that weekend, so, it might be difficult to both find a track bike and race it. But I suppose I can see if there is a bike out there for me. I can do an opening leg, if I am able to get to the track.

Do it!  Beg borrow or STEAL a bike Eric.  Release your inner Kraken and fulfill your destiny!

Tell that to Liz and Luka why I'm not on Fire Island.

When do the team sprints go off?

Maybe I race Friday in Riverhead and then Saturday Team Sprint. I mean I guess we can get a medal for the Club.

Anybody know someone with a 58 cm track bike to lend?

fyi:

i have a 54cm track bike any interested part can borrow.  nice steel, carbon fork, DA cranks, strong wheels (formula laced 32x to velocity aeroheads)

holler!
Track bike for a CX bike...that's a poor trade off ;-)

I would hate for it to encroach on you and your family's trip away but just think of the er, glory.

But yes, we would still need a) a bike for you and b) a third rider. Any suggestions for the latter?

As for a), failing all other options (will have a think of anyone I know in UK with one - I'm going back there this week), I'll seek out some tall hipster to dupe out of his fixie.

The champs kick off at 1pm, team sprint first up. I guess 1/2/3s would be up at 1.20pm-1.30pm. Attached is the flyer.
Ok. First off is good.
If you still need someone I'll be your third rider.  Just realized I'm not a CAT 1,2,3 on the track. Sorry.  But I'm willing to lend my bike out if that helps.
Can we put Christian on a track bike?
yes, i believe we can

now that he's a 3 on the road, i think he gets an automatic upgrade to 3 on track
^smells like winning...

it's one cat down, 1 road > 2 track. 2 road > 3 track
curses!

in cyclocross, you can race 3 if you're a road 3
I believe you can request the upgrade in cx, but it is not guaranteed. Off topic though.
Those are some crazy rules re one cat down. What's the point in that? If you're good enough to be a cat 1/2/3 on the road, surely you're good enough to be the same cat on the track - in endurance events if not in the sprints.

If we could get round that then we'd nearly be there (well, I suppose it's only fair we ask Christian if he actually wants to race of course.) If not, any other thoughts on riders? Surely there's someone...

@WilliamDC and @josephmuller , thanks for the offer of the bikes. What size is your frame, Joseph? Big enough for Eric?
JP can usually be convinced to race the track a few times per year....
Robertson still in town?
Anyone want to do the team sprint for CAT 4 ?

If you are a track cat 5 with four(4) nights of racing at Kissena by then, Alan will upgrade you.
Or of course if you are secretly a track 4 already and have not come out in a while.,....

There are a couple of (non Kissena) folks I have done a team race with before - I can ask them again but would love to get some Kissenas out there :)
Kieran,
I can be there for the 1/2/3.  My main limitation is that my track wheel is also my commuter bike wheel.  If someone could loan me a faster rear wheel, that would be great.

Also, looking for gearing recommendations.  I have a 48 on the front, can put on larger.  Been a while since I've been to Kissena and I've forgotten what the right gear is.
@mugwump - great news! Would you be willing to ride man 3 (three laps)? I'm sure we can find a faster rear wheel from somewhere...
Now all we need is a 58cm bike for eragot and it's game on....Any more ideas anyone?

Re: gearing - what sprocket do you have? Assuming 14? Not knowing what kind of a rider you are (i.e. more of a "spinner" or a "pusher", you're either ok with 48x14 or will need a 49 or 50, esp if you rode third leg. I think that as Kissena is so bumpy and thus doesn't lend itself to spinning, it's best to go on the higher side of what you might ride on a smoother track, depending on your strengths of course.
I will potentially be available and have lots of gears. But no bike yet.
I'm happy to do whatever.  Ragot would be better for the third man.  He's more like Orson Welles than I.

I think 48x14 is what I used last time, but can bring bigger rings.

@mugwump

do you mean fat?

man, I need to ride more and lay off the booze then...

@eragot - I'm no closer to a bike either, sorry. I might put a separate plea on the forum for one. @josephmuller - what size is your frame?

@mugwump - if you go first man, 48x14 should be perfect, although 49 could be good too, depends how quick out of the blocks you think you'll be.

@JoshuaC - I think @Aaron Blum would definitely be up for joining a Cat 4 team, though I've no idea if he's Cat 5 and if so, if he has raced enough to earn an upgrade. Aaron?
mugwump - If needed I can loan you a wheel during your race(s) but I need it back for mine :)

I have an American Classic wheel laced to a track powertap. I have size 14, 15, and 16 cogs for it (it has a different threading than normal track cogs, so these are it unless someone else happens to have white industries cogs laying around).
@kieranleahy It's a 54cm. Cannondale with a 47 on the front
@kieranleahy - I am a 58cm

@mugwump - I have a set of track wheels I can lend (of course, would I need them?)

Use a slow release and a road front wheel - deep dish

ER,
I've got a slow release around somewhere.  My plan was to use my fast road wheel front and then borrow a track rear.
Ah ha. Sensible.
