Yeah, not exactly the most shining way to repay Greipel for Greipel's burying himself before the Poggio to keep the four-man break close in MSR.

But, I mean, you can't really blame him. Greipel knows that he's on a Belgian team. since Gilbert is the team leader and the Ronde is the Belgian SuperbowlWorldseriesHalloweenNewyear and all.

Greipel has made a nice little career of getting the shaft from his team. Cute how Gilbert has aspirations for the Ronde. Well, I suppose it's possible that Fabian will get struck by lightning.

And since you mention it, what the hell is it with "Lay-o-pard?!" I mean, I'm all for embracing cultural differences, and have even been known to call aluminum foil, "alley-luminum" foil (because I find that particular British pronunciation charming), and Brussels is Brugge in my book for example, but I'm pretty sure a leopard is a "leperd" in other english speaking parts of the world too. Because google translate doesn't do "luxembourgish," I had to check my French and German (2 of 3 official languages of Luxembourg) only.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce I'm going to be leaving Kissena.

Why? Well, first...you guys just promote too many god-damned races open to anyone with a cycling license. Why can't you be more like the cool kids at CRCA, have 8000 members, promote weekly races and don't let anyone except club members participate?

Second, you just let people join. I didn't have to audition, or go out drinking PBR with WDC or anything like that! What's up with that? Where's the exclusivity?

Finally, you're nothing like a real racing team. Real racing teams go out and train together in the morning's at Prospect Park, and beat yourselves up silly, just so their skinnier teammate can take a breather or two. Real teams get results like leading the cat 5 series, cat 3/4 spring series races. Real teams split up prize money and tell each other good job and...wait a minute...

What I meant to say is that real teams wear matching jersey's and get matching bikes given to them and have 1/2 the team cruising the back of the pack while some guys in the same jersey's do their own thing at the front of the field.

So if you guys know what's good for you, you'll make some changes pronto. Like before April 1st is over. ;-)

I love it.

It took me one overnight out-of-town trip with a CRCA team (I have a friend who was on an unnamed CRCA squad and I needed a ride) to realize I was in the right place. Just hearing the serious talk, the lack of humor, the ripping on other teams, and a couple snide comments about my "club" made me think Kissena was the only place for me.

To me the vibe in Kissena is by far the most rational, most adult, most generous, and least douchey to be found!

That should totally be our new slogan. "Kissena Cycling, Less Douchey"

File this under: "Preaching to the choir," but...

I think we've done a lot to prove that you can be a good racing team and still have a great attitude. Our cat 5s have been racking up results in every race and John M. is the proud owner of a mfugly leaders jersey (he may have lost it today though, so he's out for blood tomorrow) to prove it. The 3/4 team has shown a lot of depth this year with multiple riders proving they are not only capable of getting results, but being great support riders too. And the 1/2/3 crew? Well, we don't have any wins to our name yet, but week in and week out, we go to race with 3 or 4 rider teams and manage to place not one, but 2 of our guys in the top 10 week after week (Perlberg and Partland, the PP brothers...err, scratch that moniker). There is no other team that does that.

Of course a lot of this would be easier to brag about, if results were actually published...but that's another story.

I know plenty of nice guys on CRCA teams. That being said, if I ever join one, shoot me in the head.

Training question

I really didn't train much over the winter, maybe one or two real rides a week (last year I rode a lot, including several centuries and one multi day tour in the mountains) I started riding/training again shortly before the first CP race this year. To the point: I did a 30 minute time trial effort on my rollers to find my lactate threshold heart rate about three weeks ago. Since then I've been getting longer rides in mixed with some hill work. Once a week I do a 30 minute time trial at lactate threshold but the past two weeks I've found it hard to reach the threshold I established a few weeks ago. I tried on rollers and on 9w before the big hills. I can manage maybe 96% of my LTHR, pretty well recovered. Around 100% I feel like I'm starting to sprint.

So my question is does LTHR lower with fitness gains? Seems like a couple few weeks is a short time for this change.

I'm trying to decide, who is the more boring interview?

Al Barouh is probably selling me his identical set of neuvation hubs/sapim cx-ray spokes/old zipp 404 rims

i heard back from John Neugent at Neuvation, who offered to rebuild the hubs to a set of 50mm chinese-made carbon rims (that are stronger but heavier) for $250

good deal from him, but i might just save the $250 and put it towards Al's wheels

FYI: i DID hit a nasty pothole, but after thinking about it, i realized that these rims cracked because my tire pressure was too low. i pumped my vittoria evo-cx's up to 100 and 90 the night before, but they were praaaabably down to 70 80 by race time. i looked around for a pump at the start but couldn't find anything so i just rode them as they were.

be warned - the 20-30 psi could save your darling wheels
