We need a "go fuck yourself" button. Icon would be middle digit.
That's my catch phrase.  I even use it as a compliment.

Sweet mods!

Question for Ragot, or anyone else well-versed on the topic of licenses and categories. Because I'm really into pushing the limits of how many bikes my apartment can handle, and also I intend to prove Mattie D wrong about the awesomeness of my old school MTB, I'm looking into some MTB races this summer. So it appears that cat 2s and 3s can buy one day licenses. That's a nice development...

But I'm wondering, if I can buy a "beginner" license or because I'm a 2 on the road, do I have to get a "Sport" license?
I have no idea. Call USA cycling or email Susie Diller at sdiller@usacycling.org
@owens. Nice decals buf get some real soap yoy fucking hippy.
Aren't you hootin' around the brush with a loin cloth made of nightshade and berries, Perlberg?
this has got to be one of the most bizarre and distressing headlines i have ever seen.  story's pretty horrific, too.

Iron Hill race report. Brutally hot day. 104 on the car thermo... Qualifying race could have been easy, because of very small Masters 35+ field, everyone who finished the race or who was pulled and placed qualified for the main event in downtown West Chester later that evening. Except, it was a bike race, and bike races are never easy. The one concession I made in consideration of the evening show down on the "real crit course" was not digging deep to contest a sprint for 5th place, the last money spot. In retrospect...
Turnout for the final high?

By 6:30 that night, we were suffering a real cold snap. It was 95 degrees. Rolling around the start after my mini warm up in the parking garage (climb to the top, feel the breeze, check the equipment, tear down the ramps Tokyo Drift style) I noticed a handful of cuties with racing numbers. Turned out they were Kiwi women with some respectable palmares. My thoughts drifted back to a crit I did in jersey years ago, where Laura Van Guilder nearly rode me off her wheel on a straight-away. Still, there's really only one LVG and while I was careful not to discount their potential, I wasnt going to count on them to drag me to the front of the race with ease. And so I lined up aggressively before we were called to the line. With a mix of literally all racing categories from cat1s who didn't have teams to get into the pro1/2 invite, to 15 year old juniors, cat 4s, and women, the tricky, tight, bumpy cornered rectangular crit was going to be half a mess.
I was so amped pre race and buried in the fourth row, it was hard to know exactly how many riders started...at least 60, maybe 80, but probably not 100.
And a mess it was, but I got a good start, and despite the frost heaves, excessively depressed manhole covers and other pavement irregularities, I managed to keep it upright, and out of trouble. But the first 5 laps were single file, and with a 30 mph false flat descent, followed by turn three's super tight and greasy looking corner, into an out of the saddle rise, turn four, onto the home stretch which was false flat climb, shit was going to be hard no matter what. Holding steady, jumping around gaps (I should have been more aggressive, keeping some of the juniors and women from getting in front of me before the turns because, they just left gaps open on the straights that I had to bridge), I was feeling good and in control. Except, there was a split, and my group was 2nd on the road. The time to bridge those gaps is the instant you notice them, but I was pretty torqued. I kept my fingers crossed that my group could bridge that move, or at least hold our ground, effectively making two races for the crowd to watch.
How good was I feeling? Well after the split, I found myself, not just hanging onto my rather large group, but riding, moving up, as my friends noticed, in the wind to get to the front of the group taking the lead through some of the fast and deceptively trickery turns. But it was for naught, because while charging up the home stretch with 25 of 40 laps to go, the officials stepped out abruptly into the road, waving us off the course. Crap. WTF? Sarah reports that we were not losing ground to the group of 20 who were in the front group...of course neither were we gaining. I haven't seen the results, but unlike a ToAD where they pulled and placed folks, and sometimes gave us "bell laps," based on the number of finishers listed last year (26), I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get "spring series-ed" for this one...even though, I rode it like I was 1/4 a rock star. As Myles is fond of saying, "Le sigh."
Next up tonight is another crit, where I will beat my head against the wall with all of the dudes who did the Pro race last night who are not United Healthcare.

Coatsville Crit Report. You know how when you do a small race, you tell all your friends, "yeah, but it was hard, because just the hammer-heads showed up?"

Well, this time I mean it. About 20 riders at the start of the Pro 1/2 crit. There were the 3 dudes from Germany's Team Rudy Project, the same dudes who were crushing the Pro fields at ToAD when UNH wasn't there, and doing just fine when they were. Two Smart Stop Mtn Khakis. A full squad of canadian garneaus and well, you get the picture.

I was crushed instantly. (My only hope is that Richard Fries thought I was JP as I pedaled in vain OTB.)

Insanely irritated that I dragged my family to this race. Except they didn't mind, and we had a lovely afternoon at a State Park picnicking, wading in a lake, fishing acorns out of Peter's mouth and just good family bonding time.
Too good:

Just had to share where I was today...
@eragot I'm actually envious of that.

I want to create a knock-off product with the same goofy PEZ lettering but it will called "PEDS."  They'll be performance enhancing drugs in refillable plastic novelty dispensers. For instance you could carry your steroids in dispenser that looks like DiLuca (or Armstrong in yellow jersey).  Just push back his stubborn head and your pill pops out.
I went to the opening of the Brooklyn Bike Park today that Pete and Jessica from Ride Brooklyn and Al Barouh, among others, were instrumental in developing. It's small, but they've built two great little pump tracks there. Highly recommended for those with kids who are interested in BMX or dirt riding.  For the moment, it looks like their hours of operation might be limited so check before going over.  It's near the old Domino Sugar Plant in Williamsburg.

Kissena New Member's Manual

Link is on the left underneath the twitter feed.  Please send feedback/suggestions on the existing content to me.
If you'd like to write a section that doesn't already exist (which would be great) - please coordinate with me to make sure that someone else hasn't already volunteered.

Our hope is that this can be a persistent doc for new members/riders to lean on.  Often good advice gets lost in the waterfall of forum posts.

This document belongs to Kissena, please don't post or share it outside the club.

This 1963 bicycle safety film is one of the most bizarre and scary things I've ever seen.

Thank you Mark, it was a labor of love for all involved.

when i was reading the KCC manual the other day it reminded me of bike snob's manual from a few years back.

Hey Guys, Quick poll; does anyone have any experience/opinions on 4square or RaphaRendezvous or any other app that does geolocation? Here is the use case I am thinking of; I want to create a group (Kissena riders) so that when I'm headed out for a ride I can check myself "in" to Prospect and anyone else in the group can see I'm there. I don't see a simple way to create groups in 4Square although there is plenty of technobabble on the webernets about "google groups meets 4square" It's 2012 already; seems strange this isn't easier. thoughts? J
Looks like the Strava app is now doing this
