Yeah the internet advised against things like goo gone.

Luckily with a few hours of gentle elbow grease and some mild dishsoap things look a lot better.
Dunno if there are any wnyc listeners/members here, but Richard Hake passed on Friday (doesn't seem covid related). I've woken up to his voice on Morning Edition through my clock radio basically forever and am more upset over it than I have any right to be. He was just a voice on the radio, yet he was there through so many of my life and it's milestones. RIP.

If you want to waste some time and probably get upset, have a scroll through this wonderful  internet conversation:

Nathaniel, this guy has feelings about threads about "Bike People"

Looking for a recommendation: my sister in law's father just passed away. She lives in Brooklyn. Looking for recommendations for good flower or food delivery options. Sh'd appreciate something with a more personal touch than typical FTD option...

Any ideas?
For a flowers option, these folks are the best:

Agreed - condolences to your family.
Guys, times are rough there is no doubt. Here is hoping this brings a smile to those who need it...

I'm trying to figure out something that might go on my website.  I'm hoping folks here can add some insight.

What mapping software do you recommend for mobile devices?  Particularly to people who are new to cycling?  Particularly for people who don't consider themselves particularly fitness oriented or techie.

It needs to be free.  Needs to be able to import GPX files.   It should be able to work offline.  Simpler is better.

Love to know what people use or recommend, or don't recommend.

thanks.
Referencing the above, I think I am figuring it out.

I'm turning my book Where To Bike NYC, which is largely focused on short bike rides for beginner and family cyclists into downloadable rides.  The URL is here: https://wheretobikenyc.com/shop/

Working on longer rides, too.  I should have a Tarrytown loop up Monday and hope to have two of my other mainstay Westchester rides up as well.  Though the longer rides might end up being housed on another website, http://www.jralong.com
The new Strava mapping features are pretty cool, but definitely fitness oriented. I use Google Maps a lot but I'm not sure you can import/export GPX files. You can however download an area to work offline.
Anyone know these jokers?

I think they used to be Good Guys Racing.
Group rides Riverside/9W.
Check out their website
I understand and share the frustration.

unfortunately, for better or worst, there are a few teams and groups riding together. they probably shouldn't, but hard to tell circumstances and what precautions they might have considered. It's been a very hard few months, with no clear end in sight. At least in NYC, for now, it seems we have COVID somewhat under control.

I try my best to keep my distance, and to not judge others too harshly, often failing.
There's less than a 1 in 5,000 chance of dying by bicycle in your lifetime in the US you know:

https://injuryfacts.nsc.org/all-injuries/preventable-death-overview/odds-of-dying/

Everyone has their own tolerance for risk. Just have to make sure that we don't increase that risk for one another.

I strongly believe that with some guidelines we can get back to riding as a group.

Do you know these guys Eloy?
Me: I want to go on a group ride
People dying: please don't go on a group ride
NY gov: I didn't give you clear rules about group rides except less than 10
GoodGuys: let's all go on a group ride
Me: No
There is zero reason to go on a group ride.
Kissena has always been a bit of an outlier in the NYC cycling scene that is too often dominated by self important "Cat 3 Pro" teams who take their cycling "careers" too seriously.

There doesn't seem to be any rational way for group rides to be a priority for anyone in the summer of 2020.

in agreement.
we should not be going out on group rides.

I think those are very wise words.

I can't help but think that there is a bit of shaming in looking at 2 guys in a picture and draw conclusions about their lack of concern and selfishness. They might be roommates, relatives...They might even have a mask in their back pocket that they will wear should not they be able to keep social distance.

As far as going in group rides, they seem to be compliant with NY state rules ( to a certain point). I only see two guys in this picture, not 10.  I have ridden with my wife. Maybe some people could benefit from a group ride for several reasons. Fighting depression for instance ( loss of a relative, loss of a business...). If some guys are going to chase KOM, there is nothing we can do about that but I don't see anything wrong with a small social ride.

On that note, it would nice to have the board position on that topic. I personally would love to ride with a small group of teammates ( observing all the precautions obviously) but would not do so if the board thinks it gives the club a bad image.

Cheers.
We also don't know their situation so to throw hate at them is almost a pointless endeavor. I know a good amount of pro groups are under the idea if we've been training with each other nonstop what makes now so different. I see it as that a group could be in contact so much it's almost like a family in house. Do I think it's morally not cool for a huge group, yea but the rules keep changing. The whole guidelines and protocols are so vague and they don't really expand  on exercising outside of the regular person.

What makes it different?  Because we have no idea if someone has it and has no symptoms.  Because they may have just been exposed and now are exposing others.  Because they may have recovered from it. . . and have it again.  Because they may be feeling symptoms, but don't want to miss out on a last group ride, before they fucking die.
Fuck the noise from people out there not wearing them, people should be wearing god damn masks.  You're fucking right I'm going to shame people not wearing them.  Those two guys in the picture?  They should be wearing masks.  It's pretty simple.
For anyone who wants to just let people do their own thing, let's take a look at some links.
Here's a neat one about a woman in her 20s with covid who got a double lung transplant

A woman got an incorrect bill for 400k for being hospitalized - I'm sure that helped with her depression

I can't find it, I was looking for that op-ed piece someone wrote, describing what it feels like to drown in your own lungs as they fill with your own fluid.
Doctors, nurses, health care professionals, cyclists, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, over 120k dead in this country.
I live in Sunset Park and there are refrigerated trailers down on 39th street holding frozen corpses because there's no technology that can cremate them fast enough.
This isn't something to brush off, to say, well, we don't know their situation.  It's a piece of cloth, put it over your mouth.  And try not to kill other people.
Should we look at Texas, Florida, Arizona, states where they said, meh, it won't come here, there's no issue.
And we find out, they weren't testing.  It was there, it had already started killing people.  But we also are exposed to a huge lack of leadership.  We need to be the ones leading ourselves to safety now.
These phases of opening will only work if people wear masks, if people wash their hands, if people don't go out when they're feeling sick, and don't go out if they've been in contact with someone who tested positive.
This is not about freedom, or free will.  This is about citizenship, and not killing another person by following some extremely basic standards.  And wearing a mask sets an example for everyone else.
Ask yourselves this: when you see a group ride going past, no one wearing masks, would you invite that group to come have dinner with your older mom, or your new baby?  Would you let everyone in the house, without being concerned?
Every time you see someone not wearing a mask and you say, it's ok, I don't know their situation, turn it around and say, it's not ok, I don't know their situation, because for a deadly virus, it seems that makes a much bigger difference.
