Is Horace running one of these the 23rd?

Anybody interested in a post race club picnic in prospect?
Yes and yes, although I'll be out of town on the 23rd.
Post race picnic sounds likes a fine idea.
Perlberg not racing sounds likes a fine idea.

Good fun today; makes me wish I had time to do more at FBF.  I thrashed around as hard as I could in the hopes of laying a foundation for a decent CX season.  Racing seemed easier than intervals by my lonesome in the park.

I know what you're doing. I learned about this in an anti-bullying workshop.

lol

Area Public School Teacher Still Afraid Of Bullies

Probably make an appearance this week.  Anyone else?

out of town this weekend.... I hope to be back for next weekend.
I'm doing White Plains on Sunday instead. @Adam why don't you join? I know it's a bit further for you than Floyd.

White Plains crit this week, so I'm out
I may show up and wet my beak...
I'll be there, just signed up.
Eric where did you go? adam sorry the leadout did not work. I'm only good at those when I have someone right on my wheel. I wound up leading out the field. My shanty algorithm based power said it was 251watts avg....which seems about right....I think my power tap recorded similar avg's at Floyd. I have a Sigma Rox9.1. I rode my wide rims and 25mm tires at low pressure this week and ride and handling was much improved..
No problem Chris.  Just a little mix up at the end.  I was keen to be on the left, shielded from the wind.  When you took off on the right, I wasn't quite in the right place to get 5-7 wheels behind you.  Hence I ended up about 10-12th wheel.  I think I finished about 10th which is a shame as it was a good strategy.  Next time.

I like to ride a lower pressure there too.  Was about 105 psi front, 115 psi back in my 23 mm tyres.  Makes all the difference and you can easily pedal round corners like that with a solid feeling of traction.
I was at 95 front and rear with 25's...squigy but I had way more traction in the turns this week. What happened to Eric?
No idea.

Eric, you in one piece?
Sorry guys, I got sketched out. Not that the race seemed particularly sketchy but I just was not comfortable with that field. I found myself riding 3 bike lengths off the back of the field just waiting for something to go wrong. That is no way to race a bike. I headed home after 3 laps.

One would think that 4 years is a lot of time to get over a traumatic racing experience (broken vertebrae, day long field trip to King's County) but apparently I can't shake it. I can count the number of times I've been useful to Kissena in a race this season on one hand. Most people do more than that in one race. I've dropped out of more races this season than I've finished.

Perhaps I'll try hypnosis...

Hey Eric, don't beat yourself up.  I wasn't the same for a good couple of years after my crash.  It is supposed to be fun, not an emotional ordeal.
eric...2 weeks ago I felt the same way in that field.  This week my mind had a better memory of the course, where the holes were and where to be in the field.  I also switched over to my aluminum clinchers with wide rims, 25 mm tires and rode them at about 95 psi.  The wheels really helped...and having one race in the bag helped as well.  I also worry about crashing...which is why I attack at 1k to go most races (I get my interval in and I can pull over and watch the finish from behind...safely) I tried to ride in the top 10 most of the race.  I think its safer towards the front as you can see the road ahead better.  Never really comfortable with people on both sides of me.  Riding at the shoulder of the races has less of a draft but u alway have your bailout option if a crash happens in front of you.  good luk   yack
Thanks Jules and Chris. I completely agree with you Jules on this point: this is supposed to be fun. After all, its just a hobby, right? Especially considering I'm racing Cat IV.

I did have a couple guys cross wheels in front of me a couple weeks ago at FBF (there was a very long split second where I thought I was going down too) which really messed with my head.

I'd like to say I'll give it another go in a few weeks. Before having that major crash I would get so psyched about racing. Ever since then I've had a really ho-hum approach due to the fear factor. It really bums me out. The memory of the sheer joy and excitement of attacking/counterattacking in race situations keeps me hanging on. Otherwise I'd head straight to Fredville.
In that case attack from the gun.....get caught, recover and repeat.....safe and painful
There is the perfect (and safe) venue for racing skills coming up: Kissena Championship! Last years' was awesome and a ton of fun.
Anyone doing this on Sunday?
I am!

9 a.m. start time for the 1/2/3/4 fields, so GAP at 7:45?

By the way, I'm just using this race as CX training, so I will be attacking like a total spaz as often as I can. Probably not a good idea to follow my wheel if you want to win.
Weather means it will be wet out BTW. Rain overnight so it won't drain.
I'll be at GAP @ 7:45

Look for me 8ish @ lefferts
50/50 depending on sleep and rain
Not going to make this one. Woke up with a bad sore throat. Go get 'em fellas.

EDIT: Aw, screw it. I'm going. I'll try not to farmer blow on anyone.
you dug really hard yesterday. sore throat is what jules and i had this week from cooking ourselves at nittany. feel better.
