FBF Sunday United

I was sick all week, didn't even touch a bike between Nittany and yesterday. It's going around.
Jeff Condon got a place in the cat 4s. Not sure which one.

I got my ass kicked in the 123s. We did 12 big laps and 6 small laps, Very hard and windy out there. I think maybe the hardest one I have ever done at FBF, in particular because my legs were feeling dead and I was unable to respond to attacks. Ouch!

I was finally unable to stay with the front group with 4 small laps to go. It was a relief.
Sweet Jezus...can't believe u guys raced today....I think I ruptured my spleen chasing yesterday. If I may quote a recent tell-all biography, "not normal". U r all suspect !!
Paniagua (and coffee) I swear!
The Cat 4 race was relatively tame for the first half. No one was really putting in attacks except for Whitey who was on track to have one attack per lap until he punctured.

At the first prime lap a tall Siggi's guy (dont know his name) attacked and me a BH guy went with him. We got a bit if a gap but got caught in short order. I definitely didn't have the strength to hold it after Saturday's effort. The next lap was another prime and the same Siggi's guy went off again but no one followed.  His teammates did a good job controlling the front and there wasn't a real concerted effort to chase.

He ended up putting a good minute into the pack and soloing to victory. The pack stayed together at a steady tempo through the last lap. Right before the last turn someone jumped and we all followed. In the turn two guys almost collided and the requisite yelling and blame game ensued. It was a slow grind sprint into the  massive headwind and I was able to pick up some spots by ducking in behind some people for a second and coming around. I think I ended up with 6th place for the race. I'm pretty fatigued now and looking forward to a recovery week.
52 degrees high, rain. Who's up for this Sunday?

If I don't go pumpkin picking....I'm in!
I was looking forward to this one. It's been a while since I've been out there and I need my fix, but with Jamestown on Monday, I'll bow out if it's raining.
Anyone racing on Sunday?
Yes
Meet up at GAP at 7:50am?
Ok. Cool.

How'd it go, fellas?
Combined fields meant that I got to race with Jeff and Pat. I so enjoy having teammates in races. It opens things up so much more and I'm totally developing a heightened appreciation for what teams can do.

Race starts, I try to get in the move but miss. Somehow the 4 strongest guys are up there and they drop the hammer. The rest of us suffer from dumb tactics of uneducated racers. Guys would attack the front, then there would be a surge followed by an immediate let up and wheel suck session. Effective chasing seemed to be a foreign concept to these guys.

We could of done more as a team, but we didn't talk. We should have talked. Next time we'll do more. Floyd is a great place to practice that stuff. Let's work on our 20's. Let's get on the front and pull that back. Let's get the lead out going. Let's work together. It's our chance. If we don't have it or if we hang ourselves, who cares, at least we tried. Much better than mindless selfish racing any day.

Love that place.
I plan on throwing down one last time on Sunday....50 degrees and rain SWEET !
