@mugwump Thanks for cheering almost the whole race!

I see that so far, Niall is the only person registered for the 2018 version of this race

https://www.bikereg.com/tour-de-fort-lee-criterium

Registration closes Wednesday afternoon at 5.

I had talked with Jeff Condon about this on Sunday and we were hoping for a 40+ race.  No such luck.  No age grouping at all.

If you scroll up, you can read race reports.  It's a good, fast, tough crit.  I wish I were in better shape for the 1/2/3, but I might do it anyways.  Gotta keep good races alive.
Definitely one of my favorite courses. Don't let the 4 corner layout fool you, the elevation change and short straight between corners 1 & 2 helps dice up the field and allows breaks to stick.if I were in any kind of shape and had to choose 3 local races to do per season I'd race this, Grant's, and Dash for Cash all fun in their own ways.
I think I’m in for the 3/4 race. Who’s with me?
Tour de Fort Lee was my second or third race ever, I got shattered, and definitely learned my place in the corners.  It is a dope crit and unfortunately they didnt have it in 2016, my last full year in NYC.  I definitely recommend it.
Challenging course and super easy to get to. This race is a great tune up /
practice for anyone racing the GMSR crit course this year.
They just moved pre-reg closing to Thursday at 4pm.
Did it last year and shattered myself trying to bridge up to a strong break that formed half way through the race. Brutal course. Fast and fun. I’m thinking of doing it, but it’s a long haul from Brooklyn. Easier when I was in Washington Heights.
I'll be in the 3/4. I figure that if I wasn't racing, I'd be riding past Fort Lee on Sunday on the way to Piermont anyway. Better to detour slightly and throw down in the crit.
To borrow (and add to) words from @eloy,

I raced like fire...

...but got dropped like a block of ice.

Embarrassing performance. I made it half way through the race and had to bail. The start was rather sketchy. Everybody was trying to shove into the sides right at the front of staging, so the start ending up feeling like a Grand Fondo. When we hit the first corner, half the field slammed on their brakes, almost coming to a dead stop. Then they did it again on the 2nd corner.

Once everyone sorted their shit out, it got fast, really fast.

I managed to stay with the main field for a while, but after a few punches up the climb, I could feel my engine shutting down. Gaps started to form and, one after another, riders began bailing before we'd made it even half way through.

Anyway, the race played out pretty much as it did last year. That course is all about position. You've got to get your ass to the front right from the gun, otherwise you're a goner. I tried to do that and just didn't do it well.

C'est la vie...

As I was taking off my bib number, licking my wounds, @Mark Taylor rolled up and we had a nice ride back to Brooklyn.

Fort Lee was tough :) The cat 3/4 race drew a big field and the staging was pretty chaotic. I ended up with an awful starting position - 5th row back. Knew that I was screwed already having learned last year how hard it is to move up on this course.

The field got strung out super fast, I spent the first couple laps watching the lead riders already taking the next corner while I was braking into the previous one. Pretty classic sign that you're too far back :) Confirmed I was in trouble when I glanced down and saw a 300w NP, which I definitely cannot sustain for 50 minutes, even with 100mg caffeine gels :)

I started tailgunning the corners to save some energy which is a super risky tactic as you're often catching back up to people falling off the field. The pack slowed a couple times and I was pretty aggressive about moving up, which got me into the first 10 wheels for 2-3 laps. Ultimately though I had burned too many matches earlier in the race, and found it tough to hold on to my position through the hill sprint after corner 3, and drifted back again, eventually going OTB with four laps to go.

Kept a solid tempo with three others and we avoided getting pulled to finish second last. Given over half the field DNFd and I had raced Saturday I’m happy enough with that :)

It was a hard one.  I lasted 17 minutes.  Wasn't feeling fresh.  When I saw my heart rate at 175 and my normalized power at 315w and I was struggling, I knew it wasn't going to be a good day.

Still glad I went.

CRCA had something like 80 pizzas delivered.  Tis a pity more Kissena folk didn't come out to enjoy some quality spectating.
