Election Announcements & Info

Hi Everyone,

It’s election season!

As 2012 draws to a close, it is time to begin nominating members for next year’s Kissena Board of Directors.

There are 13 board positions, including eight officers, and five directors at large.

Listed below are the board positions and the CURRENT directors. President: Michael Perlberg; Vice President: Ryan Johnston; Secretary: Todd McLoughlin; Treasurer: Eric Ragot; Membership Director: Clayton Bruckert; Sponsorship Director: Myles Romanow; Road Racing Director: Charlie Issendorf; Track Racing Director: Empty

At-Large: Jules Roazen, Dan Reiners; David Stokes; Josh Caesar; William Doyle-Capitman

**Note that the Track Racing Director position has been eliminated. In its place will be a Development Director position. See the description of that position, and others, in the “Board Responsibilities” thread.

Elections will be held at the annual club holiday party. Stay tuned for an announcement in the next week or two about the time and place of that event.

The elections are a two-round process. In the first round, we vote for officers (i.e., everyone but the at-large directors).  Once those results have been announced, there will be a second round of voting for At-large directors.

To make your nominations, please visit the “Nominating and Accepting Nominations” thread.

Hey Kissena,

This was my first year as a member-at-large on Kissena's board. I won't be running again next year*. But it's been an interesting year and great learning experience, and in talking with some I thought it might be interesting to share some thoughts about the board and election process.

1. The club is YOU. The best parts of Kissena -- the willingness to help out newcomers, the friendly races at races, the many years of accumulated racing & training wisdom, the rallying to deliver a teammate to a jersey or a GC win -- comes more from the 120+ members than from the dozen or so on the board.

2. If you have ideas about how to improve Kissena and would like, please *run for the board*! There is no minimum tenure or experience requirement (though I believe the board should include some longtime wisdom/historical context, I think this will occur naturally).

Actually, I take that back. If you would like to put on smashing race series such as the Twilight Series at the track or Charlie I's extensive race program... more power to you. But many of the other roles don't require a particular tenure, especially the at-large role.

3. If I were to write my nomination blurb all over again, I would focus less on my background/skills/enthusiasm, and more on concrete events, programs, rides, or other projects I wanted to take on for the club. A Hummer limo to be our team's race vehicle. A weekly women's training series. A more sophisticated forum to replace the email list. A sponsor that could provide a regular meeting space for us (sorry I couldn't pull through on this one yet).

You could call these campaign promises, if you will. Instead of voting for the people we like, we can vote for the things, programs, events, and growth we'd like to see in our club. I think this will help the 2011 board move more quickly.

Any other thoughts from past & current board members? From anyone else, too?

-Michelle

* I'm moving to Philadelphia at the end of December, and may also be racing a little less, but I still hope to see you all on the road or track or course!
Philly???
You will be missed, but just being in Philly doens't disqualify you for the board...

I loved Charlie I's suggestion about captains for each category, should we pursue this here? On it's own thread?
Go for it, Bill! Perhaps on a separate thread so the topic catches peoples' eyes, but either works for me.

ER - I don't think I'll have as much time locally to participate as I'd like :(
Two questions:

1. Is there a mechanism for voting by proxy? I won't be able to attend the party.

2. How many "at large" slots are there?

Thanks,

Joe Wiener

1. You can vote by proxy by giving your voting preferences to someone who will attend - i will be happy to submit proxy votes for all who can't make it

2. there are 4 at-large positions
In case people don't know both candidates for Club President have movie credits. I originally thought IMDB pages were not that important in club elections, but just to let you know I too have a filmography to share.

Let me know if you ever want to know what it is like working on "A musical melodrama in the silent film style, based on a classic Japanese bunraku puppet play."

Thanks,
Dan Reiners
That is awesome!!!

Dan,
your acting resume is longer than mine, though I did have a speaking line in the 2004 award-winning indie Take Out.

"stop him! he has my purse!"
Better than that. I got to tell the hapless delivery guy, "keep the change."

And I got a fin, a Lincoln, five clams, aka $5 for what was about a minute's worth of work. And they came to me. The hourly was incredible.

somehow, I don't get a credit

I would like to nominate Michael Perlberg for club President. He is a great member and has stepped up in the past year as an at large member of the board. I think he would make an excellent president for the club, and will continue to ensure the growth and development of Kissena.
I would like stand for a position as an at large member of the board.
@ Dan.

I thank you and accept your nomination for KCC President. I will post a formal statement later.
I nominate Charlie Issendorf for Road Race Director, and Alan Atwood for Track Race Director. They've both been running the race programs very well for a long time and I think they should continue in those positions.
omg i'm on the forum. Suddenly the ground draws cold, as if hell has frozen over.
Myles for Sponsorship Director. Anybody else?
