Sponsor Deals & Details
Here's a link to our December drop-in shopping hours, we've added hours this month, we hope you'll visit Redbeard Bikes and do a little holiday shopping! Support your sponsor shop!
https://redbeardbikes.com/december-2021-schedule/
I have an extra Wahoo Bolt v2, will honor the team order price of $195 plus tax. Please email hi@redbeardbikes.com to reserve it!
We also have Wahoo SNAP trainers and mats in stock now. It's getting cold out there... this is a good investment!
I hope to have news from Kask soon on those Large Protones. Thank you to all who ordered. Believe me, if I could do anything to hurry it up, I would!
Thank you!
Kasia
Kasia will reach out to those that ordered to coordinate pick up. Thanks!
Bike supply appears to be very constrained for 2022. I heard Cannondale dealers had to place their last order for the year by the start of February, and I'd venture to guess that the other bigs (Trek, Giant, Specialized), have leaned on their dealers in a similar way.JohnMalcolmson said:Anyone know if we still have Specialized as a bike sponsor in 2022? There probably won't be much available in general and with Specialized introducing their D2C program, I think the S-company is probably not going out of their way to help brick-and-mortar dealers get a few extra bikes.

Is there somebody we can (puts on sunglasses)
I'm impressed!Matt Budofsky said:@Jules The Feed actually made those for us! They're really cool people and easy to work with/excited about sponsoring us!
Because they didn't have in something I was looking for, I texted to see when it would come in. They texted back almost immediately.
It's a different sort of pitch from them.
Here's the email
From: Kate | The Feed <kate@thefeed.com>Subject: 👋 I'm Kate and I'm your new Coach...Date: May 3, 2022 at 12:59:53 PM EDTTo: mugwump@partland.net
Hi,
I'm Kate, and I'm going to be your new Coach at The Feed.
You might be wondering what a Feed coach does (also: how much it costs)
So first I'd like to start off by reassuring you it's a totally free service we offer to help athletes get the most out of their training.
Basically, I'm here to help you figure out the perfect fueling plan for your sport and performance goals. Once we've got a plan in place, I'm going to check in with you periodically to see how your training's going and help you tweak things as needed. You can also text or email me questions and performance updates along the way. My contact info is below.
Pretty simple... But also profound.
See, there's a common trend in the world of sports nutrition...
Which is the fact that most athletes have no idea how to properly fuel their training...
Or they have some idea but they're stuck in a rut and can't figure out what they need to drop or add to get better results.
You are not alone, we started The Feed after working with the best endurance athletes in the world, from Tour de France Cyclists to top Ironman Triathletes, and discovering that A) many were clueless when it came to nutrition, andwith only a few small improvements we saw massive performance gains.
The thing is, sports nutrition or as we like to call it "performance nutrition", is a science, one that's always changing because of the latest breaking study, newest product or innovative technology. It's also an art form and, when executed properly, can increase your gains without you having to train more.
That's where I come in.
As your Feed coach, I'm going to help you figure it all out.
So, let’s get started...
Reply to this email or text me your sport, your training goals, and any special diets your on...
📬 Email me at Kate@thefeed.com
💬 Text me anytime at +17206648335OR
… I've made it even easier to get started by creating a quick two-minute survey. Just answer a few questions and I'll have a good starting point to put together a custom fueling program for you.
💁♀️Take the 2-minute survey (and get a $5 Off Coupon Code!)
Hey, and don't be shy. Let me know if you're struggling with anything specific (bonking on long workouts, dehydration, tough time recovering the next day)...Just keep it performance-related because my relationship advice isn't free! 😉

Definitely.Jules said:"small improvements leading to massive gains" is a big red flag for me. That said I'm happy they seem to be responsive.
But I can imagine there are some people who have truly atrocious eating habits. And perhaps they could see such gains.
An athlete though? Unless the small change is "don't eat 4k calories of meat right before your event" I find it hard to imagine...mugwump said:Definitely.Jules said:"small improvements leading to massive gains" is a big red flag for me. That said I'm happy they seem to be responsive.

I'm also sure that to some extent it's marketing speak and they're trying to hype people up to buy in and buy more product
It's still an absolute whopper.
For those who have been wondering, here is a long overdue explanation for “what’s the deal with the shop sponsor and kit order.”
For those who don’t have time to read further, here is the TLDR: We are finalizing an agreement with a new shop sponsor: Hilltop Bicycles. This has delayed our clothing order. Look for a Slack poll in next few days to weigh in on whether to open an order ASAP or wait to get sponsor correct kit.
I want to apologize as I had fully expected that the shop sponsor issue would have been finalized a long time ago. I don’t think that anyone on the board expected this to be such a drawn out process.
First some context. As you know the pandemic has created an outsized demand for bikes and supply chain issues have constrained products. Bike shops have struggled to get products and several local shops have closed their doors. RedBeard, our shop sponsor since 2015, faced with the bike shortage and a struggle to get mechanics shifted focus to become a boutique fit shop with limited hours. While they have been good to us and we still encourage members to support them, they are no longer able to meet our needs for bike repair and bike purchases.
Finding a new shop sponsor has been much more challenging given the supply chain issues. Every shop owner and industry insider we spoke to said the same thing: Bike shops are struggling to fill orders, have limited incentive to give discounts, and don’t currently see much value in sponsoring a club. And those were the shops that took the time to discuss sponsorship with us.
Nevertheless, the club has successfully come to an agreement with Hilltop Bicycles to become our sponsor going forward. I have been eagerly waiting to make an official announcement for about a month now. Why the delay if there is an agreement? The issue is that Hilltop Bicycles is owned by Specialized and therefore all contracts have to be approved by corporate. So while HB Williamsburg manager Sebastian Giraldo has agreed and believes that the contract will be approved, we are discovering how slowly the corporate side of things moves. Its probably fair to say that our sponsorship may not be their top priority, and I can’t really blame them.
An unintended consequence of the corporate delay is that the board paused the Kit order a few times with the belief that a sponsor announcement would be imminent. We wanted new kit to be sponsor correct to minimize the need to buy additional kit. Had we known it would take as long as it has we would have opened the store months ago. We goofed on that one for sure. In the next few days we will post a poll on Slack to decide whether to open the store ASAP or wait until the contract is signed.
We expect the relationship with Hilltop Bicycles will be mutually beneficial. A major benefit will be the increased availability of bikes and equipment. If you are considering buying a Specialized bike in the near future I would recommend that you order one now as the discount (15% off all Specialized bikes and gear) will likely be official by the time you get the bike. If you do want to speak with them, please speak to Sebastian in Williamsburg. Once the sponsorship is official it will apply to all Hilltop locations.
In the meantime, RedBeard has committed to continuing to offer members club discounts until the end of June on any in stock items. I encourage members to email them or drop in during their Saturday store hours. This is a good time to stock up on items that may not be offered in a Specialized shop. In addition, their discounts will often be better than those you will find elsewhere. Most importantly, it is good to support Kasia and Ilya who have supported the club for so long.
Thanks for hanging in there, and once again sorry for the delay in communications - we really thought things were going to be official some time ago.

It would be interesting if they offered wheel truing. I see it as a more advanced bike mechanic skill.
At the same time, I've been building wheels since I was 16. It's entirely doable, and it gets easier the better your tools are. The bible is Jobst Brandt's The Bicycle Wheel. You can supplement that with the website Wheelfanatyk.com, run by Wheelsmith founder Ric Hjertberg. He's got both articles with advice and sells tools.
A moderately-priced truing stand works fine. Then you need a dishing tool and spoke wrenches. Helpful is a nipple spear (easier to get the nipples inserted into the rim) and nipple driver (to get all the nipples threaded evenly quickly). And it's a very good idea to get a tensiometer (too tight destroys rims. too loose wrecks spokes). After that, it's about moving slowly and evenly.
Just a quick note of thanks from myself and Ilya for supporting Redbeard Bikes over the years - has it really been since 2015?!
Goes without saying, we would have loved to continue working together, but recognize that y'all need a sponsor shop that can provide ready-to-ride bikes and consistent bike service.
We're keeping team pricing "on" till June 30th, this applies to all in-stock product. (Special orders will be regular retail.) Please don't be shy about shopping! Drop-in hours are Saturdays 11-5. This week we also have Thurs/Fri 12-6pm.
Feel free to email me a list of what you're looking for and I can set it aside even if you can't swing by right away. (Thanks to all who have already done so!)
* We have a surplus of Specialized bottle cages and Wahoo speed/cadence sensors and heart rate monitors! And some orange Protones and Wahoo ROAMs left.
Also, if you'd like to book a fitting this year, please email me sooner rather than later
Thank you again, and see ya!

Hello all. I know that the last thing most of you are thinking of is riding indoors, but if you have a Zwift account and want the Kissena jersey for your online rides, then now is a good time to set it up. I intend to send the list of members who want the jersey to Zwift at the start of next week. I will also send out another message giving people the option to get the jersey this Fall and/or Winter. Complete the form at this link. You’ll need to look up your Zwift ID. Instructions for doing so are here. (edited)
Ended up needing a different coil spring ,
super nice store , great bunch of guys and Sebastian is a real fountain of MTB knowledge 👍👍👍
