News, Q&A, etc. on Kissena's sponsors, member deals, etc.
Hey y'all,

Let me take another crack at this. Seems my posts of late haven't been clear.

I was thinking that this spot would be exclusively for our official team sponsorship deals that are already in place or may open up to us as the year unfolds.

I was inspired to start this thread by the recent email question about our CycleOps deal. It seems that a few individuals over the past few months have fired off individual questions about CycleOps through our old yahoogroups email system. In the interest of clarity and convenience, I was thinking that it would be good to have one location where club members could reference all of the sponsorship deals throughout the year.

For example, I believe we're sponsored by Van Dessel. So whoever on our club (Myles? Eloy?) is responsible for that relationship, could tell us what the deal is and how we take advantage of it. Ditto CycleOps, Brickwell, Neuvation, Ritchey, etc.

So even if we have multiple individuals managing different sponsorship relationships, we can have a single location to find out what team deals are available to us. This way, throughout the year, whenever they want, Kissena club members can go to the "sponsorship" thread and see what's what.

P.S. I haven't spoken with Myles (our new sponsorship director) about this particular posting and if he or any of the club officers and board members aren't cool with the idea of having a thread on the forum dedicated to our sponsorship deals, I'm totally fine with this whole thread being deleted.

P.P.S. And while I would never discourage any club members from trying to share great deals they've scored or discovered with their friends and club-mates, I would suggest that kind of post would be more appropriately placed in "Deals & Steals" or "The Buying/Selling/Trading" threads. I purposely put this on in the "Kissena Announcements & Info" category to help separate it out as the "official" go-to spot for our sponsorship deals.
Rudy Project has a 72 hour sale, 10% off of the additional sponsor deal on all gear.

http://media.rudyprojectusa.com/newsletters/A2/011911-72HOURS/

to take advantage of this, first type in the Kissena sponsor VIP code: KISSENA
click recalculate, then type in the 10% off code: 72HOURS
click recalculate and you get the additional amount off.
Wait, so whats our CycleOps deal and when/how can i order a trainer?
Hey kiddz,

I've been charged with searching the old yahoo forum site to find our deals and post them here. I'm a bit behind schedule as of now...apologies. I'm going to try and get that done today. That said, not sure how current the information I may or may not find will be.

-Marc B.
Okay, so this is clearly a work in progress. And since, I'm just the guy who's "re-filing paperwork" here, I'm not going to have any answers to questions. Some stuff is clearly out-dated. Like Dave Trimble being a contact person. Other stuff seems up to date, like Lenny Katz being the Saris/CycleOps contact person.

The following is from a PDF that lives on our yahoo groups page:

Hopefully this will work. A word version of the Ritchey 2009 ordering document.
Posted By: BrittLeeWait, so whats our CycleOps deal and when/how can i order a trainer?
Remember to send in your membership for 2011 before Feb 1, 2011, since we need to send in a list of active club members to take advantage of the deal. If you're not on the list CycleOps/Saris will not let you purchase through the club deal.
JP has offered up the following information which may be helpful to you as you are trying to take advantage of Kissena deals

Lenny Katz has been responsible for Cycleops/Saris.
Eric Ragot has been responsible for Brickwell, Ritchey, and Rudy.
Eloy has been handling Neuvation and our main contact for Van Dessel.
Jeff Owens has been handling Veltec (Lake, Descente, Vredestein, SheBeest)

Neuvation has a great close out sale going on for there wheels. I just got a new set with shipping for less than $300!

CycleOps Saris sponsorship deal:

Kissena club members in good standing (i.e. you paid your dues) get 45% off MSRP. Good for Power Taps, trainers, racks, stationary bikes, pretty much everything.
We will send a membership list to CycleOps around February 1. Those on the list qualify for the discount.
After CycleOps gets the membership list, we'll give you the contact information to get the discount codes so you can order directly from them.
Thanks for the info Lenny!
Last year, there was a spending limit of about $ 2,000 if I remember correctly. That's enough for a Powertap, a trainer and a car rack...
are there options for prebuilt powertap wheels as well or just for the powertaps themselves?
anyone recommend any particular rim (either offered with the deal or not) that they would particularly recommend?
-Lenny Klipper
When I dealt with powertap (outside the club) they only built up the hubs into a 32-spoke mavic open pro rim. makes for a pretty hefty wheel.

I ended up going with a Kinlin XR-300 with 24 sapmim cx-ray spokes and brass nipples through wheelbuilder.com it cost $260 total to build and ship back to me. you can make it cheaper by going with cheaper spokes etc.

Hope that helps. I am very happy with it. Raced and trained a lot on it so far (including FBF etc.) and have not had any problems, perfectly true.
If you tell wheelbuilder.com about the cyclops discount during the time that we are eligible for the discount they will honor it after they confirm it with cyclops (they have a strong relationship). Last year the folks at wheelbuilder.com were not able to get the hub I wanted because cyclops was back ordered a few months (on hubs at the "team" discount) so they offered me the same hub they had in inventory at their "industry" discount of 30% off. By the way, tell the you're with kissena and they give you a 10% discount on the parts and labor. I think you can thank Lenny for that - the dude is known coast to coast.
I’m glad to announce that Saris Cycling (and CycleOps) have renewed our sponsorship deal, which gives Kissena members 45% off msrp. If you are a paid up member as of February 1st, you can email sponsorship@cycleops.com to get a discount code so you can order directly from CycleOps. When emailing for a discount code, make sure that you mention Kissena in the subject line and email body.

Happy Riding,

Lenny Katz
Kissena Cycling Club VP
Wow! Thanks Lenny for coordinating this awesome deal. Quick question. Is there a time frame associated with this deal? I.e. can some people order now, while others order later in the season?
Last year, those who ordered promptly had to wait a while. I ordered later and received my order in less than a month.
Lenny,

Thanks for the great news! That is a sweet deal.
In past years we had to order by May 15th. There doesn't appear to be a deadline this year, but I emailed CycleOps to clarify. I'm waiting to hear back.
No indoor cycles offered under the sponsorhip programme?
Does the club usually do a group Lake order at a certain point, or can we get a deal on an individual basis?
Posted By: konradDoes the club usually do a group Lake order at a certain point, or can we get a deal on an individual basis?
The lake deal is part of the veltec deal, which includes a few other brands: http://veltecsportsusa.com/

Jeff Owens organized one in December I think. I'd love to see another one but it will be up to getting someone to help organize it.
I think a few other people are wanting some stuff from veltec as well. Maybe we'll gauge the interest and do one later this month, so you can have shiny new stuff for spring. The order came really quickly last time, like within a week.
I need shiny stuff!
I'd like to get some new shoes.
Regarding CycleOps, we can order any time during 2011 but there is a $2,000 limit per member. (If you need to go over that you ought to have a pro contract, and you wouldn't have to pay for any of your equipment).
Thanks for the update Lenny!
Jeff - I'd likely be interested in adding to a Veltec order.
