Bomb proof. I'm running ones from 2008. I race and train on them... mostly train these days although they were my go to wheels during my 2011 season.

I run them tubeless but this has not exclusively been the case.
FWIW. I'm a big fan of the Shimanos that Vlad recommended as well.
Same here. I've got a set of C24's from 2009, and l love them. My understanding is that the new model has been updated to incorporate the more aero and modern rounded and wide profile.
not tubeless but great wheels nonetheless and they come with a lower price $550....great customer service too.

The Shimano's are lovely off the rack wheels.  For the kind of bank you are spending though you can get a custom set made.  I paid about $900 for my set up but I went with Alchemy hubs ($600 for the hubs alone) and Stans Alpha 340 rims (1280 gram wheel set)
You can build a set of wheels with White Industry hubs and really good rims for less than $700 that will be lighter than the Shimano's with 23 mm rims and tubeless ready.  Using standard spokes makes fixing them an afterthought should disaster befell them.

I had Ergott build up a set of my Campy Record hubs 32 x 32 hole for my wheels. I think it was about $350 for the two (rims, spokes, build). Bulletproof training wheels. Reasonably light, but again, they are 32x32 and have 25mm tires. 

I love them.

Erik can build lighter stuff.

Ergott...I'm confused like I was the first 6 months of me reading all the obsessive Rapha clothing comments, not understanding, not even knowing if they were real.

What about Wheelbuilder.com? Weren't they the darling of custom wheel makers among Kissena riders a ways back?

I dropped my hubs / wheel to be rebuilt in his car in driveway. 
I picked them up while a party was going on and hung out for a while. 
I made both trips coincide with a visit to my sister, 10 minutes away.
Plus if there is a problem, I just can bring them back myself.
I'll go to him for more in the future.

How can you possibly judge whether the new ones are any better. They are still NEW and haven't had a chance to fail yet!

I installed a new chain yesterday, which I think was a bit overdue because the old chain was very obviously stretched relative to the new one (I lay them out side by side to make sure I include the same number of links).

I rode today and feel confident that the minor skipping on the rear cassette will cease once the new chain gets worn in a bit. However, there was a significant (even alarming) amount of chain noise coming from my small chainring. Large chainring seemed ok. When I got home, I saw the dreaded sharks tooth profile on the small chainring. However, the wear seems to be localized to two groups of teeth that are oriented 180 deg apart. In particular, they seem to be on top of the chainring when the right (or left) crank is oriented horizontally (i.e., the position where maximum torque is applied). 

I could simply get a new chainring, but given my ambition to move to crank-based power meter I have an interim idea that I would appreciate opinions on. Namely, how about if I remove the small chain ring rotate 1/5 of a turn (70 deg) and reinstall. That would seem to put less worn teeth where the sharks teeth are currently situated.

Does this make sense? Has anyone experience with such a maneuver (or a 39 tooth Campy chain ring with 135 BCD to lend me for a couple of months).

@Stokes - If the chainring is symmetrical on that axis (except for wear) I'd give it a shot. You might get the same amount of noise from the worn teeth, but I would guess they'll stress your new chain less since they'll no longer be exerting the maximal torque per pedal stroke. I guess there is a chance that for some reason rotating the teeth out of their current pattern could make chain wear or possibly even shifting worse, but I bet you'd notice if it did.
Little chainring on two bikes I just looked at has no special shaping to facilitate shifting, nor special pins (as the big chainring does) to indicate a specific orientation.  Seems symmetrical enough...I say got for it and let us know how it turns out!
Dave, I seem to recall that Campy has a special bolt pattern (because of the bolt behind the crank arm) which requires the rings to be in the correct orientation.  Something like one bigger bolt hole or a special spacer or something.  If that doesn't apply, then I would say go for it.  
Joacquin, I think that pin is universal.  That pin (the one behind the crank arm, facing away from the frame) prevents the chain from getting jammed in between the crank arm and the chainring in the event that it shifts over the large chainring.  It also orients the chainring and the shift ramps.  

The pins facing the frame on the big chainring give the chain something to be pushed onto sideways by the derailleur as the derailleur moves outboard.  You want these to stay where the manufacturer put them, as they are designed to grab the chain when you're applying the least amount of force to the pedals, at about 1-2 o'clock in the pedal stroke (or 4-5 o'clock if you're looking at it from the other side).

I don't see any little pins or ramps on the little 39T or 30T of my bike or my girlfriend's bike, but our bikes are not campy.  I'm inclined to think you can freely rotate the little chainring.
Brencdan, the pins aren't what I have in mind - I seem to recall that one of the bolt holes on Campy rings is differently sized in order to accommodate the preferred bolt layout.  But maybe that's just older Campy stuff, or maybe I'm just misremembering the Campy crank mechanics. Wump?
@Joaquin. You are right that one of the chainring bolts goes in from the opposite side and screws into the crank arm (well not really into the crank arm, but into a spacer next to the crank arm). Because of this, you definitely cannot rotate the large chainring. I will let you know shortly whether the small chain ring cares or not. There may also be some special shaping of the teeth to facilitate movement of the chain between the two. I know that to be true on the cassette in the rear. That is why the cogs go on in a defined orientation.
