Turkey Hill Classic - Saturday May 4th - great race.

Let me emphasize something here...for those of you who love Floyd. This is a perfect RR for you. Open to lots of brutal crosswinds, slow "chip seal" style pavement. A real grinders course. A couple of tricky turns that will test your handling ability, but the strong will always survive this race. Lots of free Turkey Hill food and beverage and ice cream on site after the race too.

Tour of Syracuse(reasonably priced, reasonable distance. Technically an omnium, not a stage race.)

Because of work... I wont be able to do two of my previous mainstays.

Those being Branchbrook and Rockleigh... bummer.

I work on Saturdays now. So I'll be jumping on all the interesting Sunday racing I can find.

Andrew- i'm considering the tour of syracuse as well. Is this a hilly course? I cant find details online.. It is the same w/e as the grand fondo ny, but i cant help thinking syracuse will be more fun at a much lower price...

Hi all,
I'm throwing my schedule out there for anyone who wants to split rental cars or hotel rooms for upcoming stage races in May:

5/4-5/5: tour of the dragons

5/18-5/19: barre Grand Prix

5/25-5/27: killington stage race

6/1-6/2: mount joy stage race in PA

Let me know on any and all. Ill most likely rent a van or jeep from hertz on demand and drive up because of free gas for the rental. Hotels run around $60-70/night. My girlfriend will most likely be coming along leaving space for 1-2 ppl for each trip.

Looking forward to racing this spring so let me know anyone looking for rides or to split costs.

Here's my out-of-town calendar for now. There will likely be additons.

We should get a final roster for Dragons and start coordinating travel and lodging.

(Hoping @Marc Bertuco will be happy to see someone doing Fitchburg!)

May 4-5 - Tour of the Dragons
June 8-11 - Fitchburg
July 13 - NY Cap Region
Aug 30-Sep 2 - Green Mountain

I am down for all of the above. Let's start putting together the carpool and hotel/motel reservations (or Air B-n-b rental) for Dragons soon. I'll look into places to stay today and car rental. So, I just got the Turkey Hill flyer in the mail and they've got some interesting events along with the usual bike racing on Saturday May 4.

Youth runs, 9:45am. Free to enter!
10K run, 8:25am. $1000 in prize money
5K run/jog/walk, 8:15am. $1000 in prize money
Mascot Race 10:50am (real live pro team mascots, run around like goofballs and take pictures with kids)
Baby Derby (under 14 months), 10:30am. Winner gets Turkey Hill Giant Cow Birthday Party for up to 100 people, including a visit from the Turkey Hill Giant Cow, ice cream, cake, drinks and party supplies.

Sarah is very excited about the Baby Derby. Peter is not called Speedy Bertucco on accident. I am less excited about racing this grueling, open, windy, slow pavement rolling course. It's the kind of thing you FBF-lovers should enjoy though.

In years past, they've also had a ton of free ice cream, burgers/hot dogs, and other Turkey Hill beverages for after the race.

My sis has a baby shower and my son has a birthday he can't miss. PLUS, he has another birthday the next day so he can't go to Orchard Beach. ARGH!!!

Needless to say, I can't go to Turkey Hill. I really wanted to get trashed by the course this year.

Very Important! About the Pawling Mountain Road Race.
The Pawling town board is asking for 7 times the amount of money for us to use Lakeside Park. The unknown and dramatic increase is not in the (none money making) events budget.
These none negotiable actions taken by the Pawling town board have (I'm sorry to say) murdered the spectacular Pawling Mountain Road Race which brought over 1000 affluent people to the village and town.
For all the kind volunteers that gave their time over all the years. The Pawling Mountain Road Race will never be forgotten and will go down in history as something very special.
We all worked so hard to do something good, Its so very sad.

Thank you for all the support. Its amazing, so many of you have great ideas for new events and are even willing to front the new unreasonable bill. The Pawling town board has made it abundantly clear that they don't want the race. This is the problem today, egos, spite and greed get in the way of good governing. Not sure what happened. Over all the years the objective discussed with the town board for the Pawling Mountain Road Race was as a economic booster for the village and town. When the shortsighted dinosaurs fade away we will bring back the PMRR. Until then we can look at some of these other great event ideas. thanks again

This fucking sucks. My A goal for the season was to finish the 80 mile 123 race.

This was a legit goal, given I've DNF'd the 60 mile cat 3/4 and cat 3 races the last 2 years.

Just looked up my result from Pawling from 2010. I finished 114th out of 93 starters. Damn, I'll bet I could have beaten that this year.

This implies to me that 21 starters completed the race twice before you crossed the line.

Sterling is a good race. It's a bit of a haul to get there, and it's where I cracked my frame a few years ago, but the rolling course is classic New England road race. Narrow winding back country roads, some open highways and a finishing line climb that is not exclusively for climbers.

It's one where position matters. You'll end up working too hard in some stretches if you are too far back.

i am tempted by turkey hill. it'd probably be an out-and-back-in-a-day affair for me, given that the 4/5s start at 1:30. if i go i'll have space for two more.
