Also, not sure if it makes a difference, but Enterprise in Fort Lee, NJ, just over the GWB has cars for $63/day for the weekend. Granted, still expensive, but the Harlem Enterprise, for example has the same car for $109/day.

Does anyone know of any races around July 4 weekend? I'll be sans wife and would like to use the time to race. Because that's the kind of rock-and-roll lifestyle I like to lead. I don't see a lot on bikereg but maybe some stuff isn't listed there.

Giro Del Cielo June 22/24. Anyone in? I seem to recall Thierry saying he was down for it. It looks like a fun couple of days and a chance to do a smallish stage race.

Iron Hill Twilight Crit. Here's the deal. Morning/afternoon races around a circuit-ish crit that wraps around a local high school. If you place in the top-whatever of your field (easy to do, not that many people register for these races, trust me) you qualify for a proper twilight crit later that day just before the pro men. No additional charge. The race is on Saturday. I'm planning on bringing my whole clan.

Here's a preview article about Iron Hill, that made me realize that on Sunday, I have to race against last year's defending champion and his whole team at another local crit that has no "old-ish-guy" or cat 2/3 race. Cripes. The Pro 1/2 race is going to hurt me for about 10 seconds before I get dropped.

Chris Thater Memorial in Binghamton, NY is an event that's been around forever. It's the NYS championship for criteriums. Most of the amateur racing happens on Saturday, although cat 4s can race both days, and cat 5s on Sunday. There's also a totally legit 5K race where all manner of African distance runners show up to crush your will to live.

If I was a guy like Derek Chiles who likes to run/race and crosses...this one would totally be on my schedule. Bike race Saturday, running race Sunday, then watch pros race. Totally awesome weekend!

Next up in nearby New Jersey, is a totally legit crit course (i.e. no short park circuits that technically fit the definition of a crit, but actually are like mini-circuit races) that is lots of fun with a fast big ring finish line sprint. Not super technical, but turns one and two do take some concentration. Time to sharpen those reflexes for cross yo!
