Track training

@Kieran, will probably be out early Sunday, 9am. Thinking of driving because last week I could barely stand let alone ride back home.
Haha, cheers Jules! I'm way off Baranoski and even Espinoza I'm afraid (anything sub-11 outdoors is quick though). 5th to 7th would be more realistic. The gap between 4th and 5th to the rest is crazy though - 0.5 secs is a lot.

Btw, where'd you see that?

It's also odd and slightly disappointing that Nationals can only muster 11 riders for the sprint! You wonder where all the other decent riders are: Gideon Massie, Michael Blatchford, Jimmy Watkins (sic. the dude who went to London 2012) to name a few.
I think I got the image off twitter - sorry for the late reply!

Hey David. Me and Andy are heading out on Sunday afternoon 3pm ish - Andy can't make the morning. Be cool if you can make it out later, but no worries if not - enjoy the session! Wow, sounds like you and Aaron really hit it hard last week, good job!
Don't think I can do afternoon training so will work with Aaron in the morn.
Good times with Aaron today with a surprise roadie appearance by Philip.

Did 4x flying 200.  Again, didn't think something so short and simple would take so much out of me, but by the time I got home, the legs were jello.

I also have to remember to eat way in advance.  Almost upchucked again, but that Clif bar I had just before the first effort came juuuust up to the throat.
Forgot to add I ran into another Kissena on a road bike (nice Parlee, Charlie!) when I first got to the track.  Later on an inspired young man in old skool Kissena bibs did a few laps on his Windsor fixed gear (complete with running sneakers and power straps).  His younger brothers were on bmx bikes having a little fun doing some laps too.  I overheard his parents comment "how come you're not going so fast?" and the young man replied with all the surly, impatient, embarrassment teenagers are quite adept at,"Because its a track bike, mooom!"
Awesome day at the track with Andy and Kieran. Wow, those guys are killing it, and I can't wait to see the photos and results from State Champs next week.

Today was one of the last days to train before the State Champs, but also the day of the NYC Century, and a stroll around the Kissena Velodrome was evidently on the official route... This slowly dawned on me as I rode out to the track, intersecting riders with numbers and paniers ("Wait, why the hell are people riding out here? Oooooh...."). I played security guard at the gate while Andy and Kieran did their team sprints, keeping the antsy fair weather riders at bay, and thankful for the Kissena jersey that gave me some kind of (false) authority. The crowd fell totally silent when Kieran and Andy sprinted by, probably because they had never seen a man look like he was about to break a bike...

While it was annoying to be mindful of unpredictable riders when I was doing my (sad) sprints ("Passing you on your left! No, left!"), it was great to see so many cyclists smiling while riding on the track for the first time, because I can relate to that excitement. It's always a thrill for me riding in that blinding, bumpy bowl in Queens, and it's incredibly inspiring to have a strong track team that is both knowledgeable and enthusiastic. I royally screwed up by not doing track seriously this season, but I'm buying the same bike as Kieran (a much smaller version) so I don't make the same mistake in 2014. And that's not just the recovery beer talking, either.
@kayt sorry to say i was one of the century riders... if its any consolation i didn't venture on to the track today.  on another note GET THIS BIKE!
Cannondale track bike?

First off, big thanks to Kayt for keeping the track safe for Kieran and I. I caught myself before getting nasty
with some of the century riders. I dont mind recreational riders using the track. I just ask they be respectful others also using the track. In the past, when I've seen that its someones first time on the track, i make a point to introduce myself and quickly share general track ediquitte and safety. Having tons of people riding unpredictably and in more than one instance just stoping in the middle of the track and dismounting for istagram/facebook photo shoots was... frustrating to say the least. That said, Kieran and I were able to get a few quality efforts in while managing to be respectful of the good people of New York's right to enjoy the velodrome. Kayt looked super quick on her pedals doing her flying efforts, and as always it was a pleasure to see mr. Good at the track.

Ps.

In my constant effort to turn Kieran into an endurance/mass start track star, I suggested we practice our madison exchanges. Utilizing the chaotic swarms of century riders to simulate the chaos that is the madison... He turned down the offer.

That c'dale track is a photoshop.

In other news, went to GSVA last week. Won the omnium and 3 out of 4 events. Solo'd off the front of the 10 lap tempo race which hurt like I haven't hurt in a longgggg time. Won the 4 lap scratch and the super sprint elimination. 2nd in the match sprints, after losing to the same junior in round 1, came through the repecharge and lined up against him in the final. Same mistake, it's harder to keep the bike down at gsva then kissena. Went to swing around through 3-4 and just went too high. Good training though. Have been doing 4 days a week on the track bike to get used to my race gear. Standing starts today.

I'm going to be heading out to Kissena Velodrome tomorrow evening for a track workout/practice. If anyone wants a ride out there with me (or just meet there), gimme a shout-out off list: jlwhite |curlycue a symbooll} gmail. Hopefully you can break that complex code.

Aaron, you got any time? We're gonna be in the team sprint at States, didn't you hear?!
i know its a photoshop but a i can dream can't i?!
Nice work @Mattie!
Damn, looks like Cackalacky is getting on the ball, I mean the track, with track racing:

We need a guy like this for Sunday
I am most likely head to the track Thursday before work . Mileage on the track bike is my goal, no real specific stuff planned as of yet. Time is negotiable if others want to join (I am writing documents all day for work, no meetings, most of the staff is off, so I can be flexible on times).

Oooh, now there's an idea! I've never been to Floyd. Is there anywhere good to eat/drink nearby?
No.  The Mission on 4th is usually a good spot because you can get good beer and there is a spot for bikes.
Co-ordinate with kit pick up at RB when it arrives?

Will buy inner tubes.

Exactly.  Yes pls.  Forgives.  Need a drink.  Actually, am drinking for @John too so that means I need three.  He's got one of those Kiwi livers that won't die unless you fry it in alligator oil or something.
