Cav is the only story from this tour. Forget the juiced up Slovenian, forget the crash-tastic attrition, forget even (gasp!) WVA and MVP riding in a class of their own. This is a fairytale story unfolding in broad daylight with each chapter more breathtaking than the last. This is a 36 year out outsprinting and out-foxing everyone, day after day.

Regardless of anyone’s opinion on the legitimacy of Pogacar’s TdF campaign, you have to love his head coach absolutely DUNKING on the rest of the peloton.

San Millan might not be the best person to trust on the matter.

Every team on that list was super-suspect.  And the riders mentioned were either dopers or had massive clouds of suspicion hanging over them.

And that was written before he worked with Garmin for a season.  Way before he started working with UAE.

The idea that people are making "mistakes" in training is absolutely laughable, unless that "mistake" includes an incorrect dose of some "medicines"

The formula for training is quite straightforward; be strong, be thin, don't get sick. People have known "how" to do this for decades.

I cannot think of a single tour winner or podium who won or lost due to a failure of a "training plan."

With us, we did analysis to see if the riders are catabolic [losing muscle], how their training is being stimulated, what their fatigue is, and we are being very, very careful with the nutrition. Nutrition at altitude is a whole different planet compared to at sea level.

“I don’t know if all the teams haven’t done this properly or what. That I cannot say, but what I know is that they messed up last year and they messed up this year as well. And we haven’t been doing anything special, to be honest.

Another logic fail in San Millan's defense is that if he wasn't going as hard as last year, then they should have no objection to releasing Pogacar's power data.  If they know what his limits are and the racing at this year's Tour didn't reveal them, then the competition doesn't gain anything by learning what he did.

Here's what he said:

"“He hasn’t achieved those numbers because he has never been challenged. So he’s going slower than last year; the reality is the rest have nothing. Absolutely nothing. They can’t even attack. Within one minute, you have six, seven riders who can’t even attack each other. It is very strange.”

It is a scandal as big as any that this kid is riding away with the White, Dots and Yellow with nobody even remotely able to challenge and the press is completely silent. It hasn't even been 10 years since Oprah. Armstong was beating those guys by seconds, and Pog is putting minutes into the records...

I think sports have been one of the few things that have brought a sense of normalcy in a period that has been anything but normal. So at the end of a brutal two years, many fans come to the tour/ cycling media for a bit of levity from day to day heaviness and to enjoy the race as best they can, even if some of the performances may be astronomical.
