No echelons on the bridge today, but several crashes. the yellow jersey and Uran both looked in danger but were able to rejoin. Nice to see Wout in yellow. Seems like he and MVdP are always trying to best each other...
the Uran chase looked expensive
and basically quick step so far, of course, they have won 100% of all stages
So far my favorite part of the tour are just the absolutely horrible green screens they’ve been using in the standings graphics. I imagine that meeting went something like “We should add a gold medal! But maybe have it look like it starts halfway down the chest, you know, keep it natural looking”

but is it worse that JV's jerseys?
Is MVP in this race?
Specially tomorrow.

ALL HAIL NAIRO QUINTANA, KING OF THE COBBLES

I swear, he must have the worst luck in the peloton.
^ Makes me think of Keagan Girdlestone, the promising kiwi pro who signed with Dimensions Data. Awful crash, severed his carotid artery and jugular vein, brain injury resulted in several strokes and a cardiac arrest on the operating table and death of 30 per cent of the right-hand side of his brain. Right arm was paralysed. Speech impediment. 10 months later he's racing again. 2 years later, driven by the dream to ride The Tour, he's back at pro level training in Europe, when out of the blue he's hit with a series of panic attacks that make him too terrified to touch his bike. Returns to NZ and refocuses his life on acting.

Not sure “out of the blue” is quite on the mark there…
Yesterday was amazing. Pinot full on delivered on the promise of drama and heartbreak. Expect more to come!
I was sure rooting for him!  I can only imagine the mental struggle he was going through in those last kms when he realized he wasn’t gonna catch Jungle Bob.

Why’s that?

He had an incredibly traumatic & devastating accident. He put his heart & soul into recovering, and getting back to "where he was" and it's understandable that it was all consuming. Fast forward to him at the tour - he's succeeded! The quest is over, he's won. Now he's faced with another fall, and going back to square one, and perhaps not winning the battle a second time, or being as lucky in surviving in the first place.

Obviously it's all from the comfort of my armchair.
Bettiol and the breakaway actually reached the protestors, didn't realize they did while watching the stage earlier

Rafal Majka is out of the tour. At this point the celebration on the Champs is going to be mighttttttttty small whether its UAE or JV

Pretty sure LeMond finished the 1989 Tour with only three teammates--and that was in an era of 10-rider teams.  He won, of course.
The Scenes in Denmark for Jonas are pretty incredible
Just here to say, what has been said before, we are living thru one of the golden eras of cycling.

We just got a full four weeks of tour. It was out of this world amazing.

Wout, MVdP, AVV, Vos, Pogi, Vingo, Bernal, Thomas, Pidders, Vollering (do we even understand how good she rode this weekend?!?) Persico, Blevins, Courtney, Gomez Villafane, Ceylin, Brand, the best cycling ambassador ever in history: Cille!

OMFG.

And while there's still so much to do, we got a little better Female/Male equity to boot.

LFG!

(caveats for doping)

" a record 87,000 fans filled Wembley stadium to watch the final of the women’s European football championships"
UAE announced that Yates would be co-leader with Pog. Do we think hedging their bets since Pog's not raced in a bit or trying to give others a false sense of form?

Its a decoy
Yeah, that's not a thing. Mark is correct.

Weirdest announcement I've ever heard. Maybe to satisfy Yates? That would be like listing me as the co-sprinter with Malcolmson...
I just wish I was in the meeting where they decided to announce this. "Pog won 2 national championships last weekend, so lets announce he's co-leader with Yates and really catch everyone off guard".

Just doesn't make much sense
Pog is going a get a sweet contract from Ineos next year, mark my words.
When I was a kid, the first tour I remember my parents and their friends chatting about was Lemond/Fignon and even then it was super clear:

Everything that is said to the press during the race is strategic or tactical and has ZERO relationship to the truth. It could be true, but that is not at all why it was said.
