Tour de France

I've seen this vid before....Even Ja-Ja seemed shocked.
bla bla bla doper doper doper bla bla bla. FROOM ROCKS, and so does Contador.
In fairness, I think a clean race would look similar in terms of the finishing spreads, to be honest. Which is certainly not to say Froome isn't doped to the eyeballs.

The thing that makes an impression on me is that Richie Porte destroyed this race completely. One guy. One guy dropped everyone except Contador (and Froome) during his six minute turn up Ventoux. Valverde. Rodriguez. Rogers. Fuglsang. Gesink. Kreuziger. Ten Dame. Mollema. Martin.

One guy.

And he did the equivalent of dropping Quintana and Nieve, singlehandedly reducing their advantage from almost a minute to under 15 seconds. And he didn't look like any of the other domestiques who blew themselves doing their leadouts. When he pulled off, he kept riding hard, looking comfortable dialing it back only a bit.

It certainly provokes one's curiosity how Porte has been so dominant for the entire Tour, except that one comparably easy day in the Pyrenees, when he inexplicably couldn't follow slow wheels. Following the pattern back, it would seem Porte is a more dutiful lieutenant than Froome was for Wiggins.

Also, Froome is so obviously dirty it's sad.

Well, that attitude does make it all more enjoyable.

Froome looks like ET riding a bike. I hate watching him. The fact that it's implausible to imagine he and his domestiques are doing it without cheating just makes it worse.

I don't know how to hijack images of the internet anymore. I "right click" and save them as JPEGs and try to upload them and get "uploaded file type is not allowed" messages.

Anyway, google "Golum" and then insert doping joke about the ring of power and then look at Chris Froom and then marvel at their similarities.
DOPING ?!?!  (an incredulous gasp leaves my body)

Yeah I found some good pictures of Froome today too. Here he is celebrating his big victory on Mt. Ventoux atop a Halloween pumpkin
and here's a good one of him, exhausted, awaiting oxygen (more of this series at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/11/alien-creature-south-africa-baboon-_n_3580474.html)

Quintana - completely cracked after Ventoux: http://www.sporza.be/cm/sporza/videozone/sporten/wielrennen/TourDeFrance/Tour_Opvallend/MV_130714_TDF_OPV_Quintana_dood
I have to say, Quintana got played so badly on Ventoux by Froome. Froome signals him to come through, and Quintana immediately tries to take a lap, Froome gets to see his hand—a pair of 2's. Double doh.

Man, I felt so bad watching Quintana fall apart after Froome dropped him.  Even though he has an inscrutable poker face, you could see his body slump and his cadence slow.  Excruciating.
that quintana clip is great.  bunch of reporters trying to talk to a dude whose only interest is in breathing.  waiting for godot.  is there one of froome on the o2?

Oh noes!  The "he's never tested positive" defense, from Tainted Beef himself!

Finally saw the Ventoux stage...I have to agree with Phil when he said that Froome's saddle looks too low. Especially when he attacks to drop Contador. I mean, it's probably not. That would be insane. But he sure does look funny.
His awkward 150rpm cadence spin class attacks are so incredibly weird to behold.

I like how the MoviStar assistant made sure to zip him up for the sponsors.

What the hell is it with Phil and his brutal mispronunciations? Everyone remembers the "Leakeygas" years, this year it seems to be Peter Kennaugh as "Peter Kenya"...

Is this a freudian-guilt related episode due to the fact that they keep saying Froome is *british* though born in Kenya and came of age racing in South africa and came to everyones attention riding for Barloworld?

Well this is interesting:

I think it's kind of sad, these guys are SHOCKED to be confronted with doping questions after decimating the competition. What did they *think* was going to happen? They have newspapers in those mountaintop hotels too. It's Froome's bad luck if he's the first clean winner but should we feel sorry for poor millionaire Froomdog because he isn't getting his allotment of unvarnished fame? I don't think so.
FROOMESTRONG!  I'm making the blue bracelets as we speak.
Cycling needs a Pedro Cerrano

Yes it does, because while we cannot obviously know for sure if riders are doping; one thing you can is admire the spirit and beauty of the race. So instead of just pointing the finger repeatedly at something that is -sadly, i admit- intrinsic to cycling until maybe today, i prefer to take into account all the other variables.
But while I suppose that this attitude might not make it more enjoyable, perhaps it is more fun to make the sport we so dearly compete in a satire...
Time to watch 'The Triplets of Belleville'

Does anyone know if Sky was fined or otherwise penalized for getting feed bags at the 10k to go spot on Ventoux? I thought there was a rule against that. Where are the communiques with the fines, penalties, etc?

Agreed, if they're going to be sticklers and cut Ben King for 7 seconds, there should be some kind of penalty for the feed bags at 10k to go when the official cut off is 20k.
The commissaires announced late during the stage that due to conditions feeding was extended until 10K. Sky were the only team who mobilized fast enough to take advantage of such a late announcement.

This is almost certainly proof that the Sky soigners are doped to the gills.
Basically, Fat Cav has been boring as hell since he shacked up with Peta Todd and had a kid, got engaged and all that jazz.  His twitter has been really, really uninteresting.  I preferred it when he would insult people.  Just as I was getting tired, he puts up this gem today:

Had the embarrassment of having to stop in a field today in front of the whole peloton with a VERY poorly stomach. #mindyourstep

He won me over again!
Fat Cav!!!
