I just signed up for this fondo since it's a century with 7000 feet of elevation as a prep for my favorite race event in mid July. I can bring one more person if anybody is interested.

I will take WTF stare downs from Audrey Hepburn anytime!!!
In case anyone wants to do this ride this weekend, I'll be there. it's a great route. Lots of strong riders. See below.

All

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Twelfth Annual Father’s Day Century Ride!

The ride is open to all cyclists (i.e., Male, Female, Father or not, along as you can ride 100 miles at a minimum B/B+ average pace).  Therefore, please pass this email over to anyone in our broader cycling community as we don’t have everyone’s contact information.

We start at the Clock Tower in Millburn (High Gear Parking Lot) at 5:30 am and meet up after the ride at St James Gate in Maplewood.

So we know who is coming, please fill out the extremely brief survey --https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/VZTD5G6

Of note, to be abundantly clear, this is not a sponsored cycling event, but a non-sponsored, non-supported ride with no SAG, no managed intersections, and no ride leaders.  In simple terms, it is a bunch of people who are leaving at the same time and riding the same route; therefore, you are responsible for yourself.  As there is no support for this ride, you will need to know the route, be able to manage any mechanicals on your own (e.g., Flat Tires), and have your cell phone so you can get home if you have an unresolvable mechanical issue or happen to bonk.  Notably, historically, the group stays together fairly well through the first 1/3 of the ride; starts to splinter during the second 1/3; and then, the pace tends to pick-up during the final third of the ride (Personally, I’ve been dropped coming out of Bound Brook every year).

Start Time: Sunday, June 18 at 5:30 am Departure(Pass Hilltop in Summit at 5:45 am)
Start Location: Clock Tower in Millburn (High Gear Parking Lot); parking available
Route: 100 miles

https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/15493601

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/747188923

There will be 3 Rest Stops on the route where we will stop for 15 minutes to refuel:
Rest Stop 1
: Approximately Mile 38; The General Store, Tewksbury (We are not stopping at Cocoluxe as it is too early in the ride to make sense)
Rest Stop 2: Approximately Mile 62; Quik Stop Food Store;
378 S Branch Rd #201, Hillsborough (It is very difficult to find Convenience Stores along the route; therefore, this Rest Stop is about a, total, 2 mile detour off the MayMyRide route; therefore, you’ll notice the Garmin route is 2 miles longer as, out of Neshanic, we stay on Amwell Road for an extra mile or so; then, loop back to the route).
Rest Stop 3: Approximately Mile 87; Walgreen’s --110 Mountain Blvd, Warren (Added this as it is likely to get pretty hot and that last hour can be tough without drink.)

Finish: 11:30-Noon at St James Gate – Downtown Maplewood

Notes regarding the course:

1.      All riders must wear helmets

2.      Bring a phone, money, and your ID

3.      Take pictures, post them, but ride safe

4.      No headsets, headphones, ear buds

5.      Road Bikes preferred

6.      The climbs are not steep, except mile 82 and 91 total climbing is around 4,600 ft, most of it in the first 35 miles

7.      This route was rated one of the best by past participants, most of its rolling hills or flat...so we're doing it again

8.      Go to your bike shop and double check your equipment, especially your brakes

9.      KNOW THE COURSE

Disclaimers:

This is an unofficial but organized group ride and rider's participation is 100% voluntary; therefore, no one is responsible for any injuries resulting from accidents, altercations, natural events (wildlife, domestic animals), or weather.

All riders are 100% responsible for their own preparedness including health, capability, equipment, obeying traffic laws and transportation home if stranded.

Awesome course! I have done it a couple of times (once back in 1996) and the 125 mile course features the infamous Schooley mountain in Chester NJ.
Registration just opened for HELL OF HUNTERDON , I registered would love company

I signed up!!
HOH it is on my radar, as my old friend Jed runs it.

Mid March might be a little too early for a hard 180 Km. I'll like to do it, but I'll wait for a bit before I register.
Eloy
i've done it 5 times ,its hard , but like i said , i've done it , you can too!
Good times doing the 5 Boro tour today. First time for me. @DamianCox works for ConEd and was generous enough to offer tickets for a preferred start which meant there were only one or two thousand people in front of us which means there were 30,000 behind us. @RobertPeras joined as well as a group of their friends. As if on cue, we saw crashes starting 20 feet before the start of the tour and at random spots throughout the tour. Manhattan and the Bronx were pretty crowded but things began to open up in Queens and were comfortable from there on in. It was pretty cool to ride have the BQE, FDR, 59th street and Verrazano bridges to ourselves. Well we were never really alone, but at least there were no cars.

Somewhere in Brooklyn I stumbled into former Kissena membership chair Clayton Bruckert. It was nice to catch up after several years. He had injured his foot and after two years of misdiagnosis had surgery last year which means he is finally back on his bike. Turns out he lives pretty close to Bobby in Queens (and thinks he has seen @niallsmart
and @Phil Maronilla in their kit in the neighborhood). He looked strong and hopefully we will see him out on a ride soon.

The whole ride was at endurance if not a recovery pace with the exception of the climb on the Verrazano where I attacked the climb. My efforts were rewarded by a Strava KOM for the climb today. There is one person with a faster time from June of 2017. Dude rocketed the 5% climb at a average of 28 miles an hour. Either he is a pro (he isn't) or he was on an e-bike. Okay so I may not have been competing against true strong men (and women), but clearly some put in strong efforts and it is nice to get a KOM (for now).

Luckily there were way more people behind us than ahead of us

There can be only one...

Might not have recognized Clayton were it not for the bibs... and yes, the organizers insisted that we wear those silly helmet covers.

I was surprised at my average speed of 15.5 mph for 39 miles. From what I remember from 15 years ago, it was too crowded to go fast. But there were plenty of areas that one can open up and go fast. I too was there but I hooked up with the ride in Central Park then followed the route. It was crowded in Manhattan but opened up on the FDR and in Queens. The BQE was windy. I rode my TCX but wished I had my road bike. (also plenty of people on ellipto-gos, like in the picture above).

I had a good time (although I didn't see any Kissenas) actually and will most likely do it again next year.
I'm sorry I missed it. Damian hooked us up with passes but the whole household was sick and we had to pass. Glad to hear everyone had a good time.
I've done it for so many years now, I'm glad to read the fresh perspectives.

For those considering it, my biggest piece of advice is to exit the finish area by 2pm, probably before 1:30.  We left 2:15-2:30 and we didn't get back to Manhattan until 5.  We stood around Richmond from 2:50-4:20 or so, and then the ferry started at 4:40.

We left Staten Island around noon and there was surprisingly zero wait for the ferry. The slowest part was making us walk the bike for the quarter of a mile leading up to the ferry. Sorry to hear it was such a drag for you JP

i don’t think I’ve ever seen an eliptigo before Sunday and was surprised to see hundreds of them.
For those of you who have never taken part in the 5 Boro tour, the following video gives you a pretty good idea. One of Damian’s friends (I think it was Jaymee) had a GoPro. You can see Bobby and I in Kissena kits. Damian in Black (on a CX bike), Lisa teal and Jesse in black and grey. The video catches the vibe of the tour well.

Gil, whom some of you met on a new member ride is organizing NYCC's ESCAPE NEW YORK https://www.enynycc.org/#register— E P I C, 1 day, out'n-back ride.

If we want to field a team, there's an early front start for racing teams.

From Gil...
Last year we had guys from  Foundation, Patch, Wyld Stallyns, e2Value, RBNY and a bunch of other teams.

Need a commitment to minimum number of riders is based on an honor system but we really need the minimum amount of riders so we can give the discount and still have enough left from the tickets to contribute to the Kids Ride Club and I Challenge Myself.

Some pics from last year and the route preview are attached. If you are interested, email me back and I’ll set you up with the cods ASAP.

[UPDATE WITH DISCOUNT CODE] Thanks to Gil, Kissena's can get the max 20% discount for the team. The coupon code is KISSENA63 . it applies to regular tickets (no jersey bundles). Prices go up again on July 31th.

The URL for registration is: https://www.enynycc.org/#register

Screenshot below of the registration form with the promo box marked since some people had issues finding it.

Best,
Gil

I hope to see you on the road!
Gil

Post here if interested!

Awesome Robert, wish I could join you. Concept is to ride it as a KCC team.
