You can do it, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I 100% would.  I know there are clinics in the early season but they don't seem to have them any other time.

The irony is that I just sold my fixed gear bike cause I never rode it...

Greg I think we're similar ride fit so you can probably borrow mine just for funsies. The novice field is very small and it might end up being more of a clinic since it isn't a "championship" race.

I'm actually quite surprised the signup is so low right now - perhaps people are racing East NY crit instead.

I reached out to ex-KCC and Irish national champ Kieran if he's interested in revisiting the track on Sunday (and also if he wants to do easy laps at the park). He was burned out on competitive racing for a while, but slowly getting back into riding.

Track was raced. Legs were spent. Good times were had.

As Dave said at the site, the NYS Track Championships are like a picnic with bike racing mixed in.  

There were five omnium categories: the Under 13, Novices, Women, IVs, and I/II/IIIs.  U13, Novices weren't for state champs.  There were four races: scratch, tempo, miss-and-out, and points.  Each event is a state championship, but a jersey gets awarded to the omnium winners only.  

We got there at around 8:30am.  Racing started at 9:30 or so, and we were done by 1pm or so.  As per picnic thinking, Dave brought the tent, some chairs, water, and Mexican Coke.  Hanging was righteous.  

Dave was looking good, but the Lonely Hearts squad came loaded in the IVs.  They took everything.

As for my races, I'm lacking in the explosive efforts over short distances.  My best race was the points race, where I tied for third on points, but in the countback (where they count placings), I missed out.  This race was probably my best as it was the longest.  I think with another four laps, third would ahve been easy.  with another four on top of that, I might have been able to contest for the win.
