those are the giant saddles.

yea, it's the stock saddle the bike comes with.
Its a litte creaky. need to get it tightened up. seats also too low. hopefully it can be raised...stem was already cut

different frames, got to get the fit right! sometimes handlebar height/reach makes your saddle height feel wrong.  if your hands move forward and down a bunch, your saddle may feel higher even if it's not, you're just tilted forwarded more than previously

Happy and sad....Yacks wanted that bike but they were not importing them last year...so's I put together an all city Thunderdome that wound up costing me twice what I could have gotten the Omnium for...le sigh.   Just got off my track bike...did some openers for tomorrow

That bike is HOT

i want to thank redbeard and our dear departing herschel for helping me put together an amazing new ride.  i'm building it myself because...well, you folks know how i do

redbeard has been extremely helpful at every step.  they worked with me to get an amazing top of the line giant frameset, in team colors, that is not available in frameset only.  they demonstrated superhuman patience with my strange e-mails requesting far-flung parts by the part number. and they pulled some strings to get me a wheelset that i'm excited to ride even though i didn't build it!

we're waiting on the brakes (SRAM is out of stock until 6/30) and wheels...and my slow bike-building skills, but i've crossed two rubicons at once: my first carbon fiber frame, and my first disc brake road bike



(despicable stem just there to keep the fork attached, don't worry)

also...excited about these cranks -- cranks are not a cheap place to save weight, but after wheels they're one of the heaviest parts on the frame.  these are ~3/4 lb lighter than my current cranks and will attach to my spider-based power meter

I'm also a proud owner of a new TCR, thanks. Props to Redbeard, although I can't ever go back to the store because I managed to get the thing out there with a 100 stem

Those bikes are sweet. I was so, so hoping to get a 2018 disc TCR and in the process to support the team bikes ... but I can't. For the disc based frames they have not improved the level of integration in 2018 to keep pace with the competition. The BMC SLR being a prime example. Pity.

giant has some holes in their lineup for sure.  i'm still waiting for a carbon cx frame with fender mounts for commuting...

a friend of mine was asking me about frames and what to buy. i wasn't quite sure how to respond.

what does BMC offer that giant does not?  what do you mean by integration?  cable routing?  integrated cockpit?

Total tangent, I can't wait until SRAM etap prices come down to more affordable levels.

@Brendan Rigby The new BMC has a level of integration that enables a disc/di2 equipped frame to hide all the shift and brake cables through the bars (assuming appropriate bars like Pro), stem, frame, forks. Also The Di2 charging port is built into the frame.

I am absolutely certain that building the bike up would be a total pain in the ass, that would require a whole heap of patience, but the end result will look very sweet indeed, and it won't require cables, etc to be changed, so it is a one off exercise in patience.

Given Giant's manufacturing capability - that is the level of detail I was hoping for from them.

@ian ellis That certainly is a nice look and maybe one day Giant will get there.  I don't use Di2 but I imagine having the charging port right there on the frame would be a lovely convenience.

On my frame, Giant's solution for routing the hydraulic hose down the front fork is a bit...lacking in elegance.  You're supposed to zip-tie it to these two cable tie stops that stick out from the back of the fork!  Zip ties on a frame with MSRP of $2800.  Mildly offensive...



The only justification I can imagine is weight savings.  The fork is light for a disc brake fork at 350 grams and apparently designing it to have the hydraulic line run through it would have made it heavier.  An Enve carbon aftermarket fork is $575 and 75 grams heavier.  A Ritchey carbon fork is $400 and 90 grams heavier.

Drooling over the new TCR ADVANCED SL 2-KOM, the likely choice when i upgrade in Aug/Sep

I am resisting jumping on the bmc vs giant integrated argument... so instead, I leave these posts for all.

What in the what?...?  I need someone to explain this bike to me and how its not going to sever your arm off when you shoulder mount it to carry.
