I would never say any of this publicly, never jeopardize any sponsorship, and the sponsors do a hell of a lot more for racing than I do, without doubt.  I know this team to be made up of incredibly thoughtful, thought-provoking people, so I feel comfortable putting an opinion out there, and reading some solid responses.  Thanks for this good dialogue.

I'd wear it. For me, bike racing is about the ability to compete and not about how I look. If I cared about that, I wouldn't have joined Kissena. I'd wear a Viagra jersey, I'd wear whatever. This is not a flattering sport.

Seriously though Vlad, I don't think it's about fugliness of the design that some people find objectionable, more about the subtext of the image.

I agree about the subtext. It's like the B110 bus. If the men were made to sit in the back, I doubt it'd really bother me. But in America to put women at the back of the bus... Again, context.

I would guess some women find images of 1940s style pin-up models offensive/objectifying. Others display them proudly as tattoos.

I'm guessing that Elena had at a minimum a thumbs up/down vote on the design.

Any other women joining Kayt in the local Orchard Beach criterium this Sunday? Course does not appear to be technical, lots of other KCC racer will be around for moral support as they prep for their own races. Would love to see/read about more of our women's team racing together!

Out of town this weekend for another event, however I might like to pick up the Syracuse line of conversation again.  Any chance of working out some shared lodging/transportation for the weekend if others are racing?

@Emily, I briefly chatted with @Dale about possibly driving up and sharing lodging, and he seemed interested. It'll be an action-packed, super fun weekend. We can figure out the logistics over email, but first: Is anyone else considering the Syracuse weekend?

Friday May 16th 2014: Race Prologue in Marcellus NY.
  • A 15.5 Km Course starting from Marcellus Park, looping through town and ending on Seal Road, with a total climb of 928 feet, 50% of which happens in the last 2 Km,
  • The first field leaves at 5:30 pm.
Saturday May 17th 2014: Time Trial and a Criterium
  • A 15 Km Time Trial will be staged from Marcellus Park with the race being run on Pleasant Valley Rd.
    • First rides leaves at 9:00 am,
  • Our classic Criterium will be held at Upper Onondaga Park
    • First field starts at 11:00 am.
Sunday, May 18th 2014: Road Race
  • The Road Race, in partnership with the Village of Tully, the Tully fire department, and the Tully school district, will be staged and started from the Tully Jr./ Sr. High School and connect with a modified version of the course we’ve used in previous years.  New for 2014: the course still includes the climbs up Song Mountain Road and Oak Hill Road, but this year we will have a sprint finish in Tully,
  • Every category except for the Jrs will complete at least one complete loop around the course, which is 56.9 km (35.4 miles).  For race categories doing two or three loops around the course, each additional loops add 44.1 km (27.4 miles),
  • Racers will complete either 35.4 miles, 62.8 miles or 90.2 miles,
  • First field leaves at 9:00 am.

Also, on a related note: anyone aside from @Meredith and myself racing the R&A this Saturday in Prospect Park? Pre-reg closes this evening, but you can also sign up on the morning of. @AnnaMaria, @Paige--our race last weekend in CP was a no-go due to the rain, any chance you're up for this weekend?

@Kayt I totally want to do Syracuse but I have to give a talk in Princeton Friday and now my mom is also coming to visit for the weekend, so I'm a no-go. Next year!

Syracuse! I was able to take that Friday off from work, so I'm 100% in for the weekend's activities. @Kayt, @Dale, (maybe?) @Emily, and anyone else considering joining in on the fun, let's coordinate transpo and lodging soonish!

Yes!  I'd love to.  I don't currently have that Friday off of work though, so I would probably have to miss the Friday events and get in that evening.  Or if the plan was to leave in the afternoon I could maybe take a half day.  But yes to figuring out logistics!

^ @Erika, I liked and awesomed the fact that you're planning on Syracuse. Hell to the yes. 

@Emily, it's probably best if you take Friday off. The first race starts in the evening, and it would be nice to shake out the car legs after the morning drive.

Paige, plenty of room in the women's field at Turkey Hill. Cheer on Jeff in the a.m., then suit up and race with Erika in the afternoon! Enjoy free ice cream in between! #YouCANHaveYourCakeandEatItToo
