Tactics Talk coming up!

Cross-posting from here:
http://kissenacycling.vanillaforums.com/discussion/1111/tactics-talk#latest

Peoples,  I did one of these at the end of February, and there seems to be interest in another one now that the season is underway.  Both from people who missed it last time and those who have thrown themselves into the mix already, and those who are about to do the same.

Basically, this is a forum for you to get all your tactical/strategic racing questions answered.  It's about picking apart the chaos of bike racing, the fog of our wars, and seeing it piece by piece, rider by rider, for what it is, and learning how to decipher what's going on while you're heart is about to burst through your chest.

Looking at the above calendar, I'm thinking Monday, April 28 or Tuesday, April 29 are the best evenings for this.  Location TBD.

Who's in?

btw, there will be a handout.  And a quiz.

(respond on the other thread)
So happy I can make the Tactics Talk! Can't wait to see you ladies soon. Riding in Princeton Friday morning, then to Denver for four days of riding up BIG HILLS. Back after, and hoping we can get a women's ride up (were they Fridays before? that would be great). Good luck this weekend, everyone! Have fun & be safe!
So cool to ride this morning with those of you who could make it!  Glad I got to meet some more Kissenas.  And I'm surprisingly still conscious and moderately coherent.  Rad.

Question: for the CRCA clinic tomorrow, what's the best route to CP from south BK?  I always just go BB to West side path if I'm heading uptown, but maybe at that time of the morning it's faster to take an avenue with a bike lane?  Allow an hour?  Those of you doing the clinic holler if you want to roll up together.
@Emily if you're running late and are good with running lights it's a smidge faster to shoot up Center St > 4th Ave > Park... only thing is you increase your chances of punctures, because Friday night bottle smashing.
^this would be my route. No need to be a maniac. It is the most direct route and includes avoidance of lights when you ride up above grand central station. Bottle smashing happens everywhere.
I've never had problems at the time in the morning taking BB to the West Side bike path, turning off on to 59th then wiggling over to 58th (via 11th) which I take all the way to Columbus Circle. Enter the park at West Drive (or Center Drive). Very little traffic.

I'll be at the clinic at/before 6am to help pin numbers before the 6am "talk", squeezing in a CP lap beforehand. You guys need to register by 5:45am. Race starts at 6:20am. So if we meet at BB at 5:00am (sharp!) we'll have plenty of time for all of of that jazz.
I'll see you at BB at 5am :)
Posted more on my experience in the race clinic this morning over in the CRCA Development Series thread.

Short story: it was fun!  (Minus the crash)

Psyched to be out there with other KCC ladies.
HI Gals!

Thought I would share a pic of me at state line my first ride over the bridge yesterday.
and awesome running into @kayt!!

That was an accidental disagree. I have since unclicked :). Denver looks splendid. I've spent a fair amount of time in the surrounding foothills.
It is so effing beautiful here. I love climbing and climbing! That's actually Golden and we're about to climb up Lookout which you can see behind me. Yay hills!

I was going to say that's Golden - since the School of Mines "M" is on the hill behind you. (Says this CU alum).

Here is a race that screams Kissena representation. Any takers?? Good training run before Bear Mountain.

Would if I could, but I'll be at the Turkey Hill Country Classic enjoying the ice cream and hills.
Jealous on both fronts, I'll be out of town that weekend.

^ Love it, thanks Jules.
Okay that makes me feel better.  That's adorable.
Hello All,

I'm planning on being at GAP at 6:00 tomorrow.  We'll do something fun and informative.  Hope to see you there

Dale
Just wanted to shout out @Kayt who kicked off her track career and did Kissena proud at last night's Twilight Series at the velodrome. Go Kayt!!! And check out her exploits in the Twilight Series thread.

Wish I could join you all in Prospect tomorrow morning, but I'm in California on a work trip. Have fun out there with @Dale!
Awe shucks, thanks @Erika! It's loads of fun and I encourage everyone to come out and try it. There are loaner bikes at the track, and getting out there isn't as challenging as it seems. Did I mention how much fun it is?

@Dale: So sorry to have missed you this morning. I went out for some openers later in the morning after sleeping through two alarms. Gorgeous day.
Also, @Erika: please post photos from your race in CA tomorrow!
not sure if this is the right place to post this, but i need some advice about sunscreen. I figured there are enough triathlon ladies here that this thread might be a good place to ask. its super important that i not get sun on part of my face this summer. I am looking for the most durable product, or product combo.
money is not object, im also not opposed to importing stuff from overseas since i think the US is lagging a bit behind. im looking for a sweat proof, non migrating sunscreen that isnt going to get rubbed off every time i clear my nose. ideally this sunscreen would be incredibly difficult to remove.
my standard is a la roche-posay anthelios with the shiseido stick suncreen over it. it works ok, except when im sleepy and accidentally put it on my toothbrush.
also, if anyone wants to chime in on solar arm covers, Im all ears. they seem about as high tech as little girls tights. And about as pleasant to wear in the summer. Am I missing something?
Greetings from (partly) sunny California! I've been out here on a business trip since Wednesday and discovered a nice, somewhat hilly road race happening in my hometown today. Wente Vineyards Classic road race, 35mi consisting of 2 laps for a 15mi loop plus 4-5mi to a finish for the women's cat 4 field. Mostly big ring climbs, a couple punchy little hills, lots of rollers, and a long small ring finish.

Rolled up to the start rejoicing in my lycra (not thermal!) knee warmers and summer jersey, surrounded by shivering Californians. Advantage to East Coast climate acclimation. First pass through the finish (4-5mi from the start) dropped a bunch of ladies, and a couple more climbs really broke up the field. I followed an attack on the first small ring climb (nothing major, about a 1 min effort) only to drop my chain at the top and watch the other 2 ladies create a serious gap on a long, windy descent while I fiddled with my gearing completely spun out.

I chased foooorevvvvverrrrrr until I was gobbled up by a group of 4 other women. We pacelined for almost a full lap before me and another woman took advantage of confusion regarding a turn to make a break. Unfortunately that other woman was tiny... like child-sized. I had to pull on the flats and downhill sections in order to maintain the break. I rode like a beast and was frothing at the mouth by the finish, when Tiny jumped on the climb. I rolled in 4th a few seconds behind, winning a nice bottle of chardonnay and $10. Konditori on me next Friday, ladies!

Couple lessons learned: 1) If you show up to a race in California in a Kissena jersey, be prepared to be the most popular kid in kit. 2) Ditto for riding a Van Dessel. 3) Triple ditto if that Van Dessel is a cross bike. 4) Road racing on a cross bike (my cross bike) is hard. Beast points to @Garrigan and @Eragot and all others who regularly do this.

Now off to recover w/ a burrito and white wine. Cheers!
You're such a "baller" in that second photo. Totally awesome and congrats.
