The Basic Training Talk

197 comments · 2011 views
It is as it suggests.  A talk focused on basic training concepts.

Traditionally, the talk is set up around the start of December.  This is for many reasons, but the biggie is that it is around December that many start either planning their next season or start to train for it in some way or another.  It's geared for people who are newer to structured training with the goal of racing bicycles, but everyone is welcome.

We've been doing this for many years.  Comes with a handout.  And there will be a quiz.  On the road.  In several months time.

I'd like to try to do it a bit earlier this year.  Like mid-November.  I'm trying to both gauge interest and look for a venue.

Anyone interested?  If I can get a few yeses, I'll put up a doodle poll.
Peoples,
We typically have a training talk in December for new members to explain basic training principles and how to plan the season ahead.  But as the club has grown, it seems that we get new members year 'round and that there could be a need to present this talk again, at least once more in the year, if not more.  We probably need to do the tactics talk as well, but that's for later (june perhaps).

So, to this end, I am starting this thread to see if there's an interest in a basic training talk for members.  I'm thinking it could be a Monday evening in May.  I'm thinking Monday so it doesn't conflict with any of the mid-week race series.

Here's some info on the winter talk for those unfamiliar: http://kissenacycling.vanillaforums.com/discussion/comment/29334/#Comment_29334

I'd add a poll if I could figure out how to do that.  But in the meantime, if people are interested, please indicate your interest by replying to this thread.
I'm game.  Might be out of town week of May 6, but otherwise should be free.

Absolutely. Let me know when and I'll be sure to keep my schedule clear. Thanks!

interested
after may 3 works best for me
I'm in.
I'm interested as well.
How is may 8 or 9 for people?

earlier in the week, 6 or 7, is better for me.  looks like i will not be in NY from ~8-17th.  but if i'm the only one, don't move it.  i can get the materials from you another time?
@mugwump - either day works for me.
As of now I'm open all week.
The 8th would work better for me.
Jay and Phillip are flexible.
Brendan can do 6-7, possibly 8
Edwin can do 8

Missing anyone?
I'm interested too and no date constraints now.

I may be able to get a conference room at work if needed. I need to check with the powers that be about use for outside activities. I'm in mid-town at 52nd & Park. Would that work for people?
Per Brendan's availability, 6th would work for me as well, just not tues or thurs.
FBF starts on 5/7... just sayin.
Thanks @vlad, I didn't realize that...hmmm...looks like my trip home will make me miss all the cool races!
I'm good for May 8 or 9.

This will be every Tuesday until the end of August. Plenty of time to become a FBF junkie.
thanks @mperlberg. can somebody put it on the kissena calender that is up top and on my phone?  i look at that to figure out when all races are.  it is a wonderful luxury that you folks have put together for us.

Seriously folks...JP, myself and the other mentors don't put on these events because we need the training talk/practice/drilling etc.
@Brendan: Calendar updated.
thanks.  it must be quite a chore to keep it updated.  i really appreciate it; it's wonderfully convenient to see all the races in one place.  and automatically on my own calender.
I am also interested in learning more and more.....
Peoples,
Yes, I know that Tuesdays conflict with FBF.  That's why I was trying for other dates. But it's a long summer, and one night that can give you the knowledge to train better for the entire year is possibly worth the sacrifice.  Knowledge is power right?  It could be worth several watts.

updated list
Jay and Phillip are flexible. Craig and Thierry seem to be as well.Brendan can do 6-7, possibly 8
Edwin can do 8
Yang 8 or 9.

Missing anyone?

I would like to join but may be tricky as my work can be hard to predict. Please plan date without me and i'll do my best to join.
i'll soon have to rent a car for the day i leave.  any progress on choosing a date for this affair?

maybe we should use a doodle poll!
what day are you leaving?

Looking at the list above, it looks like May 8 is the sweet spot.

Do we have anyone else who is interested?
Ah, sorry! Looks like I am going to leave on the morning of the 7th.  I just became an uncle again so I've got to get home and see the newest addition to the clan!

Looks like I'm the outlier here, so don't worry about scheduling around me.  If I can't attend, can you send me the notes?
New member here just catching up on this thread-- I can make the 6, 7, 8 and 9 work for me as needed.
