The Basic Training Talk

I'm still shooting for the 8th.  I assume with the exception of Brendan, who is doing his level best to avoid learning anything more about bike racing, everyone above can make it.

Trying to get Ride Brooklyn to stay open late for us, but it's not looking so good.  If the weather is nice, we can meet at the park, or Commonwealth, which seemed to work fine last time.
So...are we confirmed for Wed the 8th?  Weather is looking kinda funky cold medina on Wed and Thurs.
I'm confirmed.  Others?

How is Commonwealth?  Last time we were there it was pretty slow at 7pm.
I'll be there this Wednesday.  Commonwealth?

I'm there.

Commonwealth is awesome. See you all there.
Hey guys, looks like I won't be able to make the 8th. Do I remember seeing something about a handout? Could someone maybe grab an extra copy and I'll pick it up from them at one of the prospect park a.m. workouts?
I'll be there--thanks for organizing. Can you just confirm the time? 7 PM was alluded to, but I just want to double-check.
7pm
Sorry, I can't make it due to babysitting duties.
Thierry!  I can't believe it.

Hope everyone else is still on.
I'm still going tonight.

I'll be there...might be closer to 7:15 though.
Sorry JP, but my wife has to attend some event related to her work. I bummed out...
I'll be there!
Bicycle talk and beer?  Yep, I'm stopping by.
I'll be there as well
Thanks for all the info JP. It will certainly put more focus into my training.
Yes, thanks for coming out and talking to us.
Thanks JP, very helpful

Thanks JP and Bruce!  Nice seeing everyone as well, sorry I had to bail early.

Quite a wealth of information was imparted this evening, thanks for doing this guys.
WUMP! BUMP!

This is it guys, the very first weeks when people (especially newer racers) start down that track to burnout or plan to rest so that they can get results in July/August.

People have been training since the wee cold months of winter and are fit and the weather is fine; many people have many, many races in their legs now.

It is fun and easy to go out and HULK SMASH the group rides while grinning ear to ear with your tongue hanging out..

Mid season BURNOUT looms but it is not inevitable!

It's time to think about when and why you want to rest this summer.  Trust me; it is better to back off the intensity for a few weeks to regroup than hit that "aaa, fuckit!" state in three weeks time and hang up your wheels until October.

Talk to Wump, Bertucco, Ragot, PBerg or any of the other senior mentors for advice on this one... I can hear the dried wood of the peloton piling up as I type this
THanks.  Happy to talk.

I'll be away the next few weeks unfortunately so I can't make the November talk.

Interested! Just started thinking about 2014 and would love to understand structured training a bit more.
I'm interested. Regarding November, I will be out of town the week of 11 November and most of Thanksgiving week.

Early December should work for me.

*Highly recommend for all new racers to come and absorb the wealth of info that JP has to share.
