Thanks once again, JP, for a great talk and a nice get together.  I appreciate the handouts, and the awesome water bottles.  We had a nice turnout with Phil, David, Rick and Thierry.  And, as always, my legs started hurting towards the end.  All that talk about sprinting really gets me exhausted.

Bump. It was here all along. Sorry I didn't find it before I posted my "tactics and tips" on the training thread.

In this coming weekend's Master's Day at Prospect Park, Deno's Wonder Wheel has flooded the 50+ race leaving Thierry and Mitch to fend for themselves. Which, actually is a good thing.

With 8 riders in what is now a smallish field, Deno's should be responsible for driving the pace to keep the 40+ field from catching. Now, they may decide their best option is to instead fire off attacks and get a breakaway going, leaving the pack stragglers to get eaten up by the chasing 40+ field.

In either case, KCC should be sitting pretty. Either slotted in taking a ride on the Wonder Wheel high tempo train, OR, going with Deno's stronger riders as they attempt to form a break. The secret here is getting in a move with a Wonder Wheel, and VOILA! you too now have 7 teammates blocking for you!

^Deno's isn't the threat.  It's Axis, IMHO.

I think Axis won't "disrupt" they'll just wait.  If the chase gets close enough they'll counter attack or bridge.

Deno's will be pinning all there hopes on Scott Gregoire in a bunch sprint no matter what, he's also strong in a break. If you are on Scott's wheel it's a safe bet. I don't see a catch happening. Good luck guys.

Axis likes to do tandem attacks. I see an early break from the 50+. 40+ERS better not wait around.

The 40+ needs the head start. I'm using this race as warm up for Sunday. So, I'll be ready for a break but can't see myself slaying it to bring down the gap. It will cost me on Sunday.

I'm back from NZ! Kiwi Patty Bevin (now on Garmin) wins the NZ TT champs and is our new prodigal son so to speak. Look for him in the pro tour this year, capable of beating the likes of Caleb Ewan — huge talent. Racing is all go down there pre Tour Down Under. I went out on a couple of rides and got my legs torn off by guys who can sit out there in a headwind pumping out 380 Watts mile after mile. Nowhere to hide.

If you're new to racing, or not so new, I think you'll find the video below is most instructive. The commentary gives you insight into the strategy & tactics that go into a race similar to what Bertucco was suffering through at Dairylands this past year. It's all in there. The racing is safe down under, due to the level of respect towards the welfare of fellow riders, there's also a lot more bootstrapping of new racers.
