FWIW, I basically concur with Malcolmson's basic outline.

The hardest thing for me is deciding whether or not to go with the inevitable attack off the line. It has worked this year. Once. But people will be trying. I want us to keep that from going anywhere so we can start racing on the west side rollers on the first lap.

I figure between 4.5 laps remaining and 2.5 laps remaining is when the break will go. I'd love it if others would let the single guy attack go, but chase down or ride tempo towards any group that doesn't include myself of perlberg.

Not sure if the decoy attack can work. It has to be just the right mix of people and at the right time. And we'll need our people to either set the distance or adjust the distance of teh field ot the break so a bridge can be made.

If we're all together at the finish, I'd love it for all to help set up a leadout. I'm decent at positioning and it looks like John is as well. We need to move everyone up by Tavern so we can be ready for whatever at the chute. But getting the pace ramped up would be nice.Only having to hit the wind after coming around that last curve would be awesome.

In terms of people, the guys ahead of me are Stefan Hoffman, Melito Heredia (innovation), and Willie Payton (death row velo--tall guy in chartreuse and black). Behind me is Stephen Dioslaki (metra muscle guy), Neil Bezdek, Stalin Quiterio (Jordan), and Scott Savory.

Great racing by team Kissena today in the 1/2/3s. Really happy with the effort of all involved. Lots of highlights, and hopefully everyone will write up the race as they saw it. Short story though is that if KCC wasn't in a move, there were two or three KCC dudes shredding it at the front to bring it back. JP was 9th in the end.

I swallowed it back down -- needed carbs.

I haven't suffered that much in a race for a long time. No idea how I got in that early break, but a look back and pack out of sight. All I was thinking was "don't get dropped, don't get dropped" but hauling my ass up Cats Paw Dioslaki put in a small acceleration and I cracked. Probably for the best because it meant we tired him out.

Wanted to help JP more in the finale, but couldn't get up there. Got home a bit hypothermic — toes killed!

Yeah. I felt rather crappy. Just held on as the bombs were being dropped through out the race. Made it up front with help from Eric, then following Everhard to try and assist JP in the Finale... I was sitting third wheel going in to the sprint and just blew up.

Super Team effort.

My report, I'll try to keep it short and to the point.

Race starts. Wrongway and I are on the front setting tempo, laser focused. Nothing was getting away that first lap, we made sure of it... tenaciously.

Just past Cats Paw on the second lap, Eugene, Dio and a couple others go. John and I are there. Gap opens up. I'm blown from all the work on the front and decide to drift back. Johnny's away. The field does not chase. I watch orange helmets near the front as I recover. We don't chase.

John gets shed. We chase. We bring it back. No easy feat, especially this SS. We're on every move. We control the race. JP is protected and tries to escape a couple of times, but those moves don't work out. We continue to control the race. We keep it fast.

Last lap. Mid pack and about to go up Harlem Hill, I hear Wrongway telling me to move up. I can't because I'm jogger laned in, but we start climbing and the pack moves right. I accelerate up the left side and watch a dangerous trio blast off on the right. I hit the gas. I'm killing myself to close on those guys. I feel like I'm going to blow up at around 5m away, look on my wheel and see JP, and tell him to go get them. He tries and dangles for a few minutes, but can't close so it comes back. We bring it back. Had I known JP was on my wheel, I would have buried myself to get him up there.

Field sprint is evident. JP is tucked in great position (as always). Can't quite make it up there to help. There's too much chaos from a running event about to go off. I drag it out.

That was FUN (<--capital fucking F). It was a privilege to be able to do that in a race. Numbers and strategy really change the complexion. I'm psyched that I got to do that with you guys.

p.s. 318NP for a buck fifteen FWIW. Rode out to Piermont with Dale and Aaron afterwards. Caught the end of Flanders. Good times.

Just count the orange helmets at the front of the field...even CrudCam200 can't miss us! I wonder if we can get bikereg.com to add a "camera fund for AVD" button on the registration pages.

Great racing with: Andy, Eric, John, Marc, Mike, Vlad today.

they did as I asked. Loved it. Kept it together for the start, a rather rapid start at that. No attacking, but no fooling around either. We were kind of strung out from the line til we got to 110berg, which definitely made attacking harder. And when Everhard put in his patented attack, there was enough momentum from behind that it didn't do anything.

On the west side, Mike and I started to mix things up, and I had hopes we could get the escape in early.

We were off at the start of lap two as well, but we got caught by the field, Eugene attacked on the right, John covered, and the field sat up--wasn't expecting the field to throw in the towel so soon. But interestingly, I think the issue was the Jordan guys not up for the effort.

Six up the road.

The pace remained fairly high behind. Mike and I were trying to get away. I wanted a small chase, like 1-3 guys with us, and we got with Alan Rego (pro, champ-sys) on the downhill by 85th. He didn't seem interested in riding across.

Shortly after Mike flatted, I think, I saw John again. See above. John took a brief rest, but was back at it soon enough. The break was down to four. The guys worked well to bring the break back to within 10 seconds or so just before two to go.

I decided to try bridging up and through the break. I got across and through, but I think it was only a small gap between me and the field. And the Jordan guys were warming up for the finish.

A few more efforts from various places and the guys doing a great job making sure nothing got away.

On the bell lap, Marc got to the front and lead us down past the meer at the north end. then Vlad set pace as Dioslaki, Burgos, and ?? attacked on the hill.

Vlad mentioned that he coudl have buried himself. I didn't think there was a gap behind us, which is why I didn't initially go hard. Until I saw a shot of that moment on facebook, I didn't realize what had happened. I had a Jordan guy on my wheel; either accidentally or on purpose he let a gap open. I knew I couldn't close by the top, so I rolled over it, and assessed my chances on the descent. I didn't think I could get them unless someone bridged up to me. But that wasn't happening.

As I got caught, Eric asked if I wanted to bring them back or let them dangle. I said "dangle." He stayed in good position, and John and perhaps others rolled up as well.

at 72nd, it was time to catch. As we hit Tavern, Eric put in a blistering effort. He got a gap with Rego, this huge blue-ribbon guy, and we could have caught the break and ridden to the finish like that. Those guys wouldn't have it.

So time to figure out the next option. Andy rolled up, which was great. I knew he gave everything, so when he was empty at about 71st, I knew I had to look about. I soft-pedaled to make sure I didn't take the lead for anything more than a second, and got on Euri Madera's wheel, keeping in a lowish gear so I could accelerate fast.

I think I got to the last curve in decent position, though don't know where. I might have passed a few, but a few passed me.

I took ninth with some room on tenth.

The winner was Rego, and the big guy from Blue Ribbon who wouldn't pull got second.

BUT...Lynn Murray was DQ'ed for jogger's lane violation. So his fifth or sixth moved those up behind him.

Eighth. $43. $7 per guy, or coffee and muffins next time.

This coming Saturday, anyone up for another Central Park dance of the Spring Series?

I'm waiting for series standings. Willie Payton who is ahead of me,finished ahead. So he's probably in second overall now. I'm pretty sure Melito Heredia was not in the mix at the finish, so I could possibly move nto third, though Dioslaki, who started 15 points behind me also finished ahead of me, so he could possibly take third. Stalin Quiterio, also started behind but finished ahead, but I don't think he could have passed me.

Sunday's race is at FBF. If it really starts at 6:30am and is short, like an hour, I can do it. If not, I'm going to have to pass, as I have a work obligation. It's a bummer as I like FBF. I've written AVD to see what the course is and if he's really going to start that early.

I'm in for Saturday in CP. I've committed to the Manny Lopez Crit in Rahway on Sunday though, but I'll be at the SS Floyd race next week for sure... and,I guess if need be, I can probably ditch Rahway.

I have serious doubts that a Sunday race in Floyd will go off at 6:30am. If it does, we should watch pre-reg, and show up if we can because it will most likely be another pay to race day. Love that money!

I'm looking forward to racing this weekend again in CP. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the current forecast of rain changes. Also, hoping with could have another solid team of 6 racers. Made a HUGE difference in what we could all do on the course, knowing that we had 5 guys behind us ready to make their moves.
