NYC Spring Series

Looking at the forecast, for chilly rain on Saturday morning, I call JP asking rather hopefully, "Are you going to race?" I should have known better. He says, "well, if I'm throwing up or something, I'll think about not racing, otherwise..."

And then I had this moment of resigned dread, that was not dissimilar to the feeling I had when I saw Malcolmson come back from the break last Sunday. "Well, I guess it's time for me to go back to work..."

All of you not racing, be sure to enjoy the gorgeous sunshine and warm temperatures promised by 10am that day. I'll be cold, wet and grumpy. But hopefully, I'll be another $7 richer after JP cracks the top 10 again.
Where would one park if he were to drive to a rainy race?
I'm planning on being there unless it's raining hard. I don't think it will be.
What's day of reg like at these races? I plan to race Saturday but didn't reg online in time

Not really well organized. You have to get in two lines. But also, there's no separate line for pre-reg riders so, you only end up saving like $2 by doing it online, not any time really. But get there 30 minutes before start time and you should breeze through all the lines. #Iforgottoo

Cat 1/2/3s for SATURDAY...ROLL Call!

Based on who's registered and who's put their hand in the air, so far we have:

The "fer shers:"
JP
Vlad
Marc

The "maybes?"
Ryan
Andy
Eric R.

Last week at CP was a really strong showing for team Kissena. Can we keep the momentum going with a few more strong guys? We potentially have a tougher field this week to race against. If we come to play with a solid team of 6 I feel confident we can run the show like we did last week. Anything less then that....errrr....

If you you want to get in a nice longer day in the saddle, and you live in Brooklyn, let me suggest to you that having a 40-ish minute warm-up, followed by 1 hour 15 of race pace, followed up by either 40-ish minutes home, OR, head 20 minutes north over the GWB and tool around the Hills and McMansions of Alpine, NJ for even more miles, is a pretty great day in the saddle.
Im planning on being there for cat 5's, unless it suddenly pours badly. I hope i didn't over do my ride this morning. I see Chi on the board! Are any other 5's doing CP tomorrow?
I was planning on pedaling easy there, it takes 1 hour (sometimes less) at a slow pace from my place in brooklyn if anyone wants to join.

I'm planning on doing this. I was going to do the Masters race if I had Kissena teammates doing it (looking at you, Wrongway). If not I'll join the 123s. To save time tomorrow morning you can print out a release at home, fill it out and just and hop in the line when you get there.

I'll be there. Weather is starting to look alright
Brooklyn meet 530 at bb?
@andrew, I'll meet you there BB 530a.
Jeff and I would prefer to do masters, but if JP feels he need more hp we can switch over to that effort as we are both reg'ing day of (sorry Jeff).
I'm a probably. Just let me know what field I should do.
Looking like the weather is OK so that makes me very likely. I'll be in the 123. Put me to work.
Dale ?
I can't make it on Saturday, but I was planning on doing the Floyd race Sunday.  Anybody else?
Am I interpreting this correctly? Cat 5 is 7:00–7:45am, Masters 45+ 7:45–8:45am, 3/4 8:45–9:45am, P123 9:45am ... assuming this is the short course.

Oh my God, 30 laps at FBF?

AVD IS BATSHIT
Andy DS,
You asked about parking.  I haven't parked by the race for years and years.  At one time, it was common to park on the sidestreets between 79th and 72nd between 5th and Madison.  I don't know what the parking situation is these days to state whether or not there is ample legal on-steet parking there.

@malcolmson,
The bikereg page says 6:30 start.
https://www.bikereg.com/2014-new-york-city-spring-bicycle-racing-series5

I've been trying to ascertain which start it is and what course he's using.  I'm thinking he's got a shorter loop planned.  If it starts at 6:30 and will be an hour or so long, I'll probably go.

Love the help in the 1//2/3's.  Dioslaki and Mike Margarite are registered.  I'm sure htey'll be looking for the break.  John Durso is there as well, I'd expect him to prefer that, though I don't know where his fitness is.
AVD creates his own courses at Floyd. I would not assume anything when it comes to that man.

I seem to recall him setting up a four turnish rectangle in the stretch between what we would refer to as turns 1 and 2.
As Vlad noted, there's no way they can have all those fields riding simultaneously at 6:30am on the FBF short course. So I would tend to trust the flyer details (April 13 & 20 are the same).

If AVD could pull himself away from that wood lathe and reply to email we could have some clarity.
How much is reg. Day of?

I'm planning to race Cpark tomorrow morning, I'll be in my black van Dessel kit and be looking to attack early and often. I'll try to give warning to kissena and am very happy to push wind. Look for the orange helmet.

I think day of registration is $40. But bring $45 to be safe. Bring a stack of singles so we can divvy up the dollars one of us wins tomorrow. haha.

Seriously, if we don't have a chance for a chat before the race, here's kind of the deal.

We need a couple of straight up work horses. I'm one of them. We keep the pace medium to high to discourage lame attacks, while simultaneously actually setting the field's stronger riders for the real attacks. I want Margarite to launch a blistering attack so that Ryan, Vlad or Andy of JP or someone can go with him. So if I keep the pace medium high at the front, only the strongest guys will be able to jump away on the West Side rollers or on Harlem Hill or wherever.

Also,if there are a couple of dudes just kind of dangling off the front, no need to necessarily jump of the front and bridge, but motoring at the front to bring those guys back or within good counter-attacking zone.

We need a couple of hammer-heads ready to attack/jump on the danger moves. These are the guys who are prepared to ride in a break and win from the break.

We need EVERYONE to race heads-up, and be up front. We can't give you race directions if you are chillaxing at the back of the pack.

We need as many people as possible at the front of the race ESPECIALLY in the closing laps if it's going to be a bunch sprint. Last week things got a little bunchy by the exit of horseshit alley and the bottom of Cat's Paw.

We need guys to be a little patient and count the orange helmets in front of you in that break before you jump all over that move. If there's already good representation by KCC up there, then when some hero from another team goes to bridge, then let him go. If you jump on his wheel, and the field sees a 4th or 5th KCC helmet going up in the move, then guess what, there's no way that move is going to stay away.
See you guys in the am! Let's have a number pinning party and talk shop. May be useful that I'm sort of incognito out there. Regardless of what happens I owe you guys some muffins and coffee.
Argh, weather notwithstanding combination of social plans and pregnant wife starting to infringe on my likelihood
Aw jeez.

Mike, it sounds like you are just going to shred the shit out of tomorrow, but if you are looking for some guidance on who's worth riding with in a break, JP can be really helpful in that department. Actually, a nice killer break would be you, JP, Molloy, Margarite...all strong guys who aren't idiots and know how to ride a break.

Okay, that's it for me tonight. Long day on my feet in the ER...going to try to compensate by actually getting more than 4 hours of sleep before the alarm goes off.
