It's Bear Mountain...so we're talking a 30-40% probability that it won't happen.

That's awesome. Especially bc volbach has linebacker upperbody strength, unlike
Chabanov's 13 yr old girl body (hot) and most cyclists' boney arms. Yeah, Bremer said I dropped him on the first climb we did few weeks ago bc his "powertap is heavy". My muffin top is too, dude.

That descent's not a big deal. Go out there and practice cannonballing it as fast as you can a few times. Then in the race, take it from the front with a clear road in front of you. Its fast but its very safe.

@ Jeff wow you mean local recently upgraded CAT 1's aren't infinitely faster than fast hard working CAT 4s? That shatters my dreams of feeling superior via upgrading

Always always always descend at the front.

So much easier to be in control that way, i.e. go your own speed, pick your lines, see obstacles.

The bear mt descent doesn't require ANY breaking until after you go across the overpass.

Surprise surprise, looks like the cancelled the race again this Spring. I hope I can get my money back this time.

Hilarious. Why do they even try? This is getting comical!

They try because the race has been around for over 30 years, because it's the closest true road race to NYC, because we're losing road courses, because people want to race it. They had the road nationals there in 1981 I believe. THey had junior nationals there in the early 90s. Storied course, hard course, great race.

I think they should keep on trying. It would be a big loss to give up for good.

To me, the only mistake they made was opening registration.

As comical as it is getting, I have to agree with JP on this one a bit.

Considering the quantity of racing in the NYC area, we have very little diversity when it comes to courses and "big races."

It must be really hard to find a good course and put on a great race. And expensive.

Remember, we lost another park course (Tour de Parc) this year.....

The press release says that they fully expected to be able to run the race. That they had been assured by Park officials that road work was complete. NYS Dot then issued a surprise "red flag" on one of the bridges. It doesn't sound like this could have been anticipated.

I certainly have a love/hate relationship with the race. Nevertheless, although there has been considerable bad karma in recent years and although the race is run by our nemesis, I feel like it is very much worth our support.

It is not nice to laugh at other peoples' problems.
And actually, it becomes OUR problem when we don't get to race.

Yep.

Unlke Stokes, I have a strictly "hate-hate" relationship with this race.

For one, with this race's history, registration should be opened up to traditional mail-in and day-of registration, so that riders don't get stuck losing their bike reg service charge.

For another, the race distances, at least for the Pro 1-2 event have always been out of proportion in relationship to the difficulty of the course and ability level of the field. Some of you may remember the early season classic, Jimminy Peak RR. It was also in the neighborhood of 150k long, however the largely flat course, it made sense. Bear Mountain's course is hard as nails and the tradition of the majority of the field climbing off in the feed zone 4-5 laps into the race has always rubbed me the wrong way.
