Tactics Talk

You can bring in your bike
Bump!

Now that we're all acclimated to Zoom, doing this could be very easy.  Just need an hour or so one evening.

Thursday at 8 work?
Works for me.

Anyone else interested?
highly recommend everyone racing in the cat 5s joins. There are 7 of us racing in the category this week (and these tactics can be used in future races as well), so we have the numbers on our side to try and make something happen (I think the only other team bringing those numbers is Samba who usually get 1 or 2 guys in the final move)
I would be interested in joining and learning! Can do 6/10 @8pm
I’ll put it in my calendar to be there! 8pm should just about be good for me
I'm in for 8pm.
8pm tonight! Does anyone have a premium zoom account? If not we can use a free room which gives us 40 minutes.
Won't be able to join this evening, but am racing in Cat 5 on Saturday, so I'll shoot the group in the Cat a message on slack to get some info on what was discussed.

I have a premium Zoom account and can send around a link even though I won't be joining!
Let’s use this zoom link (it’s a free one so it’s time limited)

Bump.

In the past, this has been open to everyone, but it's geared towards new and newer racers.

New racers you do not want to miss this
@mugwump - I would be very interested in attending and learning from you all.
@mugwump Is there a talk planned or did I miss a post?

Not yet.

I'll take a look at the regional road calendar and set up something for the week before or so.  I assume the first race is in Branchbrook.
Hey, lets set something up for an hour or so one evening on either February 28, March 1, 2, or March 3.

I'll post a poll soon.

I also strongly suggest we get nearly everyone out for a group ride February 26th or 27th.  Something over the bridge where we can ride hard for a ways.  Zwift is fine for fitness, but group riding comfort and confidence is kind of important for mass-start racing.
I just set up a doodle poll for 7:30-8:45pm on Feb 28, Mar 1, 2, 3

BUMP!

We've got SEVEN who responded to the Doodle Poll thusfar.  The date that everyone can make so far is MONDAY.

If you haven't responded yet, please do so today.  We should close this thing up at the end of the day and set a date.
MONDAY HAS IT!

MONDAY 2/28/22 7:30PM EASTERN TIME

a Zoom link will be set up shortly.

Is it possible to have this recorded? I unfortunately have to be on the phone tonight with someone in Korea.
Huge thanks to JP for sharing your time and experience! I’m certain I’ll end up embarrassing myself on my first race, but it won’t be quite as brutally shameful thanks to the call.

Side note: I was too ashamed to ask this, since it’s a logistics question rather than a race one, but, if you’re biking a decent distance to the race, is there generally a place people can safely keep saddlebags/packs? Or is it more of a befriend someone nearby/with a car type of situation?

Sorry I did not volunteer this.

NYC bike races generally have a bag drop spot.

I don't know where the advice is, but we've written at length about what to have in the bag.  For cold weather, a spare base layer, maybe a second hat, maybe a second pair of gloves.  Also, a snack.

We also didn't go over morning-of stuff for super-early races.  That also has been written about.  Don't know where.  Simply put, something that goes down easy and don't experiment on race day.
@TomWasko

I did record the meeting.  It's a big file, 239.3mb, so I need to figure out the proper way to share it.
@mugwump I use https://wetransfer.com/ for work for transferring large files that can't be attached to email.  The caveat is that it does expire after 7 days.

Another option is a uploading to Dropbox or Google Drive then sending out a link.

Thank you. If you share me your email, I can set up a box.com folder you can upload to and I can share the link to the group

Thanks for those.

I'm wondering, however, if there's a way to make it available to everyone in the club, possibly here on the forum.  Like maybe in the Team Library.

You can password protect a YouTube video, or make it “those with the link only”

Post the link in the sidebar under the how-to doc.
