Mark me down for Next Thursday as well!
Reminder - this is coming on Thursday this week. Anyone who wants to arrives early shoot me a message!
@RichFreeman I was planning on coming. Is there a good place to park a bike? I’m not bringing the Venge, but I still care about my commuter 😎. I can be there as early as 6 pm
Yes boss, we can put your bike in my office. Let me know on slack when you are close and I’ll come and meet you downstairs.
If anyone else is planning to attend please could you let me know so that I can put your name on the door...
I can’t make it tomorrow night, but the riders who go should take their ideas back to the forum to get the respective groups (Cat 5s, Cat 4s, Cat 3s) to start discussing peronal goals and encourage team coordination. I’ve never had more fun racing then when racing with Kissena teammates for a common goal. The L&C cup is especially amenable to doing so given the various jerseys to compete for as well as the win. Executing a successful leadout as a team is a beautiful thing to watch and be a part of. I’m getting psyched for this race season
I'd like to join tomorrow! What's the floor(I work in this building too)?
Silly idea - would it be helpful to the club if we got a conference number for people to call in? I can use one from work. Let me know
^ If someone is bringing laptop they could do a zoom.us or some such.

Awesome - floor 4.

For or everyone else - although the address is 79 Madison, the building entrance for the building is on 28th st and has a “WeWork” sign. When you go through the doors you will quickly know that you are in a Co-working building due to the decor.

@Patrycja Lupinska would be great if you were able to help me sign ppl in and get them upstairs to floor 4 - I’ve got room 4a reserved for us.
@RichFreeman
Sure, i'll head down there at 6.30. Could go earlier if needed. let me know.
So it looks like we’re a small crowd tonight? I can be there as early as 6 PM. Should I come that early or just meet up with you guys at 6:30?
Up to you - more than welcome to come early if that suits. There are a couple of beers in the fridge.
Anyone who arrives early, my phone number is 9143090721

@Jules

Bertucco did a video of racing in Prospect, though not so much about riding the front.  Might you know where that is in our voluminous board?

I remember it well; no idea where it is. Have fun playing with search, I guess?
Bump!

I traditionally try to schedule this for the week or two before the season begins.

It would be great to have lots of our people here for this so there's a common language and early chatter about how to race.

It's also good to try to get everyone out one weekend day before the season begins so we can ride together, do some racing-type efforts, and see where peoples fitness is.

And then, in March, I also try to set up a day at the track to practice race skills, like pacelining, bridging, and leadoffs.  (this also has a thread)
I still enjoy thumbing through Reading the Race. It's already a few years old, but still a good general primer for amateur bike racers.

JP, I always found your sessions highly informative and a good place to collaborate with teammates before race season. The track and mock crit rides were also really helpful in putting theories to practice.
@mugwump during the CX season I was talking to @RobertPeras and @James Reeder about something like this. I found that my frustrations of racing at the park were partially due to not knowing when to be where in the race. I think also the combination of the 3 & 4 field changed the dynamics a bit, and it seemed that to get to the top 15/20 in the race required a greater effort than previously.

So basically my spring goals are to use the early races to get the shock of racing over with, and a good test to see where the legs and lungs are at. So in that context I would love to try to be useful to my teammates even if it means blowing up and not finishing a race.

Useful could mean helping a teammate for a leadout for a KOM, or Sprint points, or maybe trying to close a break down, etc... Speaking of leadout, with out some practice and discussions it's hard to know where to be and when, and if I'm lucky enough to be up front ahead of the designated teammate/s, how long and hard to pull. Which side should we pull off on when my task is done, etc. I know there are a lot of components to all of this, including luck, but, it would be helpful if we could can come up with a plan to work on some of these scenarios, etc... Of course, weekdays are no bueno for me, unless it's a holiday.

Anyway just some more food for thought... I'm not sure if I made myself clear or not.

Andrew,

Love to have you out for a the tactics talk, but yet, I understand that from your location, weeknights are nearly impossible.

First, making a club-wide plan to have a big group ride before the season start could be huge.  Tentatively circle the last weekend of February for one such ride from the GWB.  We need to talk it up with others so we're all under the same delusion.  Being in the same place at the same time with the same goals will help everyone who shows.

Second, a track day for road bikes is another thing to have a club-wide plan for.  The bigger the group, the easier it is to both work on skills and get a better read on how everyone rides.

Third, having both time before a few races to meet up and talk and then time after a few races to cool down as a group works on this as well. (edit--resolve in park races to do a cool-down lap with your teammates immediately after the race.)
Bump.

So, Mark Taylor has been gracious enough to offer up his office's meeting space in Midtown for a tactics talk.

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings are best for me.

Is next week too soon for a tactics talk?  What about the week after?  Love to get this on before racing starts up.
I'm down for a refresh! I've got a weird schedule but if it works out I'll be there!
Next week or week after is good for me @mugwump
Boom!

Here's the Doodle poll.  Please respond, even if you can't make any of the dates.

Bump!

RAcing well as a team improves your odds of doing well in bike races.  When you consider that most racers finish within a few seconds of each other, it's the tactical smarts that often make the winning difference.
Bump!

I want to close this Friday morning.

You want to be smarter in races.

vote!
Friday, 4:32pm
