quick report, from the masters race:

• Foggy, humid, but quite beautiful morning
• JP looked like firah, always top 20ish
• There were about 3 crashes today. ugh.
• Chaim and Niall were involved in one, Niall looked fine, and actually DFL'd but may have gotten a stich on a finger cut, he reported that Chaim ok.
• Powell and Andrew are the hotness
• Erik Post, Dioslaski, and Loeher managed a last lap gap that got them the win
• I was fully meh
• JP will finish 25, I would finish 40 something, with other Kissenistas close behind.

Race report

weather was warmer than expected, pulled into registration around 545am, lots of kissenas. 
Race started on time, was rolling mid pack, race pace felt easy considering it was my first race this season 
third lap, top of the hill by GAP crash on the right hand side. 
5th lap coming up the hill on the left, a rcc rider on my left lost control (unsure how, nothing was there) swerved to the left then over corrected and turned extremely right-right into me, his pedal got stuck in my front spoke and his front wheel was in front of my wheel like a T, I went airborne. 
Landed. Body is in shock I feel pain everywhere, can’t catch my breath.  Curled up into a ball.  One rider flipped over me and then it was quiet. 
The race moved on. 
Niall was there helping out-Niall what Do you remember?
the pain and shock went away. 
a nice rider with a Strava handle of “duke of Milford” who races for blue ribbon helped me untangle our bikes, 
the rcc rider says he was racing for 7 years and this never happened, he doesn’t recall what happened. 
I have road rash in 3 places, including a knife-like hole in my leg from by brake rotor (it’s ugly and deep but no pain) 
bike has bent spokes in the front wheel and a bent rotor with blood from my leg 
went home cleaned myself up, took out the old bike and did river road and felt ok. 
nothings broken, thank g-d. road rash and some pain, but looking forward to the next race. 
For those that reached out to me, I appreciate your concern.

Damn, Chaim, sorry to hear it.  Heal up.  But that you switched bikes after the crash to get a good ride in. . . Man, that's badass.

ouch that sounds a lot worse that i imagined, but if you rode to river road, i guess not that terrible and like Bruce said, totally badass. Take good care and rest up.

Report from the Cat 5 field.

I think @JasonFugett and I made a good showing yesterday morning. Not only did Jason piss off the entire Samba Team (I think that's the name of their team), but we were up towards the front most of the race, chased all of the attacks, and even tried an attack on the hill descend on the last lap which didn't work (I ate a face full of wind). At the final climb Jason zipped towards the front with the rest of the bunnies and ended up placing 7th, while I hesitated for a couple of seconds and lost a bit of a gap and ended up placing 22nd. I noticed from the race results that there was another Kissena rider, Ken Wiltshire, who I couldn't find in the forum. If anyone knows him, please let him know that he should look for the bright orange helmets at the start of the race to let the rest of us know that we have another teammate in the field. The more, the merrier.

Ken isnt currently a member. Kind of funny actually, but he seems to think he is a member by simply listing KCC as his team on USAC. I will continue the convo on slack w the board, not sure how to handle the situation honestly ha

@RobertPeras You're being modest; you pulled me a good portion of that attack on the last lap. Which left my legs fresh enough for the final climb and a quick sprint at the end to nab 7th. I definitely owe you next race. 

And yeah the one Sanba team guy that was all hot and bothered by me was DQ'd and trying to blame me for riding in the recreation lane. I think he was looking for a scapegoat.

don't attack the downhill, it never works

There are some caveats to this.

I think it can work if you attack at the end of the downhill when the race is already fast.  They make the swing onto the wider road and often sit up because they've gone pretty fast down the hill and don't want to use extra wattage to keep that speed going.  

Attacking at the top can work if you can cross to a person or group dangling ahead of the field by the end of the descent and you need to be able to start working with them immediately.    

I wouldn't attack on the downhill, but at the light after the downhill before the wide turn thats where you can stay upfront and if you're comfortable at attacking and turning around 28-30 ish mph there, the bunch would have tons of accordion effect cus its pretty hard and not that safe to turn at that speed with the pelotons, and if you continue at that pace on the flats the whole field will be strung out in a single paceline. 

We've got a Castelli Series Race this Sunday.  Anyone have a feeling about going or not?  
Are people holding off because of the weather?

Part of me wants to do a super-hilly long road ride, ideally with a group.  

@mugwump there are a ton of Kissena folks (myself included) already signed up for this race.

this Sunday April 21st is Lucarelli & Castaldi -- with a p123, 34, and Cat 5 field, about 13 kissenistas are signed up for the 3/4 race.

I think the calendar on the forum is a bit mixed up.

YES, wear your kit. You'll get a vest from Charlie. The race is part of the L&C (not castelli)

Our calendar is subscribed to the New York State Bicycle Racing Association's calendar which has the dates wrong.
