COVID 19

Velcious has a good multi-week plan to get you back up to speed. Reach out to Kathy and she'll be able to send it to you.

It's a slow ramp up through z1 and z2- mentally you'll want to do much more but physically gets you back to baseline
Doesn’t sound fun at all. Consensus seems to be if you are vaxxed the symptoms are (usually) pretty mild - it’s “a cold” but we’re still living like hermits. My octogenarian mom has been with us for several weeks - once she heads home we’ve got to seriously think about just letting “Sweet Baby Jesus in a Rapha Skinsuit hopping the barriers” take the wheel and get on with our lives.
Wall has been breached, wife tested positive using home kit - rest of us negative so far. Had been fighting a cold for 2 wks prior so maybe a weakened immune system had her more susceptible? Same symptoms she's had with the cold - a dry cough, though maybe a touch more tired.

Adults all boosted, child double vaccinated. Thank goodness.

Good luck my friends.
There is no “good luck” tag, sadly. Keep in mind you won - you kept it at bay long enough to get vaccinated, which was the goal all along.
^ Totally Jules. Hopefully we made it to the roll credits part of the movie... Now we just have to cool down the planet with some nuclear ice bombs and we're golden.

I've heard nuclear ice bombs are kind of tricky to execute properly.

not to be a downer or anything.
So, as you know, I was in California for a week.  On the trip out, I shared a row of three seats with one other person.  And she was wearing a face shield in addition to a mask.  The rest of my family was across the aisle.  We didn't get tested out there, but the only time I spent inside unmasked was with family.  on the way back, almost the same arrangement, only the woman was double-masked and wearing safety goggles.

All the same, as my wife and daughter are going into workplaces, sort of--my wife typically goes into an office designed for 200 currently holding 5-10 on a typical day and my daughter to a 3K-8 school--we figured the right thing to do was to get tested.

So, we set out to get tested on Sunday.  A three hour wait in line (not terrible; it was close by and we took turns waiting outside).  I filled out the forms for all of us.  We did both the rapid and slow tests.  Three hours later, I get the rapid results.  Only I can't access them because I MISSPELLED MY OWN EMAIL ADDRESS!!  I need to 'confirm' my account before getting access to the tests, only it can't be confirmed because I can't get the email they auto-generate for confirmation.  Without that, I can't enter my email address and password, to get access, even though I know how I misspelled my email address and have a customer number and can provide precise times in which we were tested and I was notified.

Since then, I have called Ambulnz/DocGo three times, emailed them three times, written the President and HR director via LinkedIn, and have yet to get a response in any way shape or form.

I realize that a reason to be so heavily electronic is for businesses to shut down contact from customers.  All the same, considering that their business is getting people those results and this is arguably a public health emergency, it's mega-frustrating.
It’s a modern farce.

In other news, if this doesn’t say “get your fucking shots I don’t know what does…”

On the subject of testing, I’ve been incredibly impressed at how good the access to tests has been here in Duluth. We can do a PCR (spit) test from home (no charge, the tests are couriered to us) and the test is proctored over zoom. If that isn’t to you liking free PCR (spit tests) are available in a local conference complex, but there are often lines even when it’s fast. Third PCR option (again no charge) is a Walgreens drive through nasal swab (PCR).

all of these have a 24-72 hour turnaround time.

test availability hasn’t been a problem but the collapse of mask mandates has been super frustrating.

We are (just like last year) behind the surge curve so we’re expecting to get clubbed in late Jan.

stay safe folks.
I was in Oregon all last week with my daughter visiting my family. Normally we avoid holiday travel but my brother's 50th bday was on 12/28 and I couldn't miss that.

We tested multiple times and stayed home the entire week before we flew out on 12/24 with the assumption that if there was much danger that it would come from us NYers invading Oregon whose case counts were staying very low.

The entire week was great. We mainly stayed together and had family events at their houses and at our house on the coast. Flew home Saturday feeling fine. Got a call from my cousin on Sunday that her husband had tested positive that afternoon. My mom also tested positive that evening so I went and got a PCR yesterday morning and sure enough. I am a bit tired and achy and have a scratchy throat but otherwise in decent shape. My daughter has no symptoms and tested negative.

A couple of tips for getting hold of home test kits right now, which are super useful, especially if you need frequent testing. Try off-name pharmacies, as they often have them now in the city, whereas the big name stores do not. Also, you can buy kits from Amazon or Walmart now and usually they'll arrive within a week. While that might not help this week, the need for frequent testing will continue at least into early February so stock up, if/when you can.
Same applies for boosters , local pharmacies , not Amazon obvs

While I'm no Amazon fan in general, I really think trusting them for test kits is unwise.  Amazon is a haven for fraud.  I don't know enough about WalMart's rival marketplace to know whether it suffers from the same issues.
I got sick earlier this week and was fortunately able to get tested very quickly. Didn't have to wait very long at all... only problem is results come in 5-6 days.... by that time, I'll be all better! Just treating my cold like its COVID and calling it a day.
I've been ordering the Binax self test kits from walmart sporadically for the last few months and they've been pretty reliable about delivering them. With the omicron surge they now limit the number you can order in a single shopping trip, but they don't seem to care if you just do multiple shopping trips on the same day to stock up on kits.
I've found pharmacies outside of the city limits to have pretty decent stock as well.  I wouldn't go out of my way to get them, but if you find yourself outside of NYC, it might be worth grabbing what you can.
Amazon offers the on/go test which is as good as any good rapid antigen test (false negatives are possible)

The app gopuff has the same tests usually in stock, and they will deliver them very quickly in NYC (within an hour of your order) -- sometimes they run out them, but they restock them quickly.

Just got back from Madrid, while there it simply felt like omicron was closing in by the hour, but not just in Spain, the amount of close friends and family in the US that got it while I was away has been staggering. Rapid tests are highly available in Spain, where, regardless of their flaws, have become a way of life. Everyone in Madrid wears their masks, outside or inside, except perhaps, when eating or exercising outside. While I hate going back to 2020, makes me want to go back to wearing masks for basically everything. Highly likely I will.
Our county hit a new high water mark ;/

Unfortunately reviving this thread. Started coughing yesterday and woke up this morning with a fever and chills. Tested out of caution and I was positive (...again). Luckily we were outside most of the time last weekend, but for those who got coffee after the race, likely best to get tested out of caution.

On a lighter note, after seeing WVA at PR post covid, this is all part of the training plan to do well at Bear in a few weeks!
Take good care, Matt. Hope you feel better soon.
Merde! Hope it passed quickly and without trouble.
Our oldest son woke up sick and anitigen tested positive on Tuesday. The rest of us tested negative. Lisa is part of a long term study of healthcare workers so she has been doing weekly PCR's for the last two years. Her PCR came back positive yesterday. Today I'm sick.

The disconnect between the rapid antigen tests (I tested negative today) and the PCR's is unsettling, as all our "test to return" policies at school rely on the antigen tests.
Take good care, hope it is very mild, it should be.

And yeas, antigen test are more of a confirmation than anything, still infinately better than a year ago.

Take it easy and good luck!
tks Eloy!
feel better Jules (and your family)!
Bump!

With cool weather on us, it's time to remember Covid is still around.

Came across this article today from Training Peaks

Almost a year ago, @GregHoge was asking about myocarditis risk. HEre's an answer.

@mugwump Good timing since I just had COVID for a second time last week...  Thankfully symptom free for a week now and seeing my doc on Thursday.
I got my second booster almost three weeks ago. I still wear a mask indoors especially in stores and or crowded areas...  I do feel as if I'm the only one with a mask in shops...

@AndrewJohnson

Just got the booster today.  I have out-of-town family visiting shortly (six people!), and two of them are immunocompromised, so we don't want to do the spreading or be on the receiving end of the spread.

If you're looking for commiseration, you've got it from me.  My wife was helping find a home health aide for her dad, and one of the concerns she spoke with said they couldn't promise that their aides would be vaccinated.  That, I don't understand--their job is working with people who are old and frail.

Yeah. As much as getting the booster/vaccine sucks for me, I react over the post 24hrs or so, it is for the greater good as well as mine. My mother is immunocompromised so I get it... It is really unconscionable for those in the health care/support profession to be unvaccinated... Sometimes I wonder how did humans make it this far?
