COVID 19

The Board should make CVOID vaccination mandatory for club membership. There are no good reasons for not getting one.

Disclaimer: I am not a Board member.
Got my second Pfizer shot yesterday morning, felt a little sluggish yesterday but generally ok. It really hit me hard last night (couldn’t sleep, fever, aches, chills) and today throughout the day. Hope I’m good to go tomorrow to get on my bike.
Shot 2: Lived through some bad-cold-like symptoms over the weekend (while my wife just needed an extra nap). I ate like 2000 more calories and slept 10 more hours than usual. Added bonus, sleep doping also got rid of the crick in my neck I was suffering through during the week!

2 more weeks and I'm ready to join group rides. I cannot wait.

We want everyone to do what they should do to be safe but I think legally we're not allowed to mandate everyone get the vaccine.

Even if there are no good reasons for not getting it and even if everyone should totally just get it :)
Is there an advised protocol for returning to group riding from USAC, the UCI, anyone?

Just went to the USAC site.  They don't seem to have a tab/page/section devoted to Covid and Covid spread minimization strategies.

this seems to be the best they've got: https://usacycling.org/article/how-to-minimize-conflict-arising-from-assumptions

And they have the Covid Content Feed, which hasn't been updated since March 27, 2020
https://usacycling.org/article/cycling-covid-19-content-feed

Just reached out to a contact at USAC to see if they've got anything more recent.
I got my second shot yesterday at noon. I was a bit tired afterwards, but I was also woken up much earlier than usual that morning by my cat and couldn't fall back asleep.

I ended up going for an MTB ride later that afternoon because I have to take 'em when I can with my recent bout of GI issues. Feel find today so far, except for a little soreness in my arm from the shot.
Update on the above.

There's apparently a Grey Bar atop the USAC web page, though my browser doesn't display it, which leads to this:

https://usacycling.org/event-organizer/covid-19-event-resources

Though the group ride guidance is from 6/12/20
Outside of USAC sanctioned events I don't think USAC is anything like a resource that can be relied on, unfortunately. Yet another squandered opportunity for relevance.

FWIW, they're supposedly about to put up updated group ride guidance.

That's good to hear although I am doubtful that they have any meaningful data from which to make decisions other than the CDC guidelines
Damn, the only big race I put on my calendar was cancelled. The race was set to go off June 5th and we got an email today saying there were “too many variables and unknowns” as they “constantly monitored local and CDC guidelines”. Which all feels kinda fishy because things have only trended towards less restrictive since I registered for the race a few months ago 🤔. I get that they have to do what they have to do but things have not taken a crazy turn for the worse in the past few weeks. Aside from having an AirBnB for a week in Wilmington on a random week in June, I’m bummed as this was my personal first step towards post-vax normalcy.

Wow.

This Just In: Update for Students on NYS Vaccine Requirements
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced yesterday (Monday, May 10) that the SUNY and CUNY boards will require proof of vaccination for all students attending in-person classes this fall.
I tried surveying NY State Bike racers about how Covid has or hasn't impacted their riding, training, racing.

ouch.

I checked.  The link wasn't broken.  The cache needed to be flushed.  I tried it through Kissena.  Seems to work now.

Could you try it again?

Thanks for the heads-up
good now
got my second jab today!

Wow. This is (almost?) too good to believe

Good news for racing
Cross-posting from the Group Ride thread:

Thank you to everyone who responded to the Group Ride/ Race Survey! It appears as though about 98% of people who responded to the survey are either fully vaccinated or intend to be fully vaccinated in the near future. The majority of respondents indicated that they would be most comfortable riding in a group with other vaccinated cyclists. After reviewing survey results and the updated CDC COVID guidelines, we are updating the KCC group riding protocol.

In order to resume group riding we are asking members to adhere to the following:

Everyone in attendance must be fully vaccinated. For the safety of the group and the community, please only attend these rides if you can verify that you have received a full dose of the COVID-19 vaccination. Verification could be a picture of your vaccination card or the NYS Excelsior Pass.

- Post your ride intentions on the forum or KCC Slack before your ride. This could be something as simple as "I am going to be at GWB at 9:00, looking for a small group to ride with".

- RSVP to state that you intend to join a proposed ride. As always, please post/reach out if you are not going to make it or are running late (we would like to limit the amount of time spent grouped together, waiting for the group ride to begin). We would like to limit the amount of time spent grouped together, waiting for the group ride to begin. This serves to let others know approximately how many people will be attending the ride and will help in the unexpected event that contact tracing needs to occur. Again- it is expected that every member on the group ride is vaccinated.

- Adhere to CDC Guidelines while on the ride (IE: socially distance when not riding, wear masks at cafe stops, don't share bidons or snacks, be VERY mindful of snot rockets/ spit, etc). Please be respectful of your teammates' boundaries, precautions, and safety.

Of course, please use your own discretion. We have come a long way since March 2020 but we still need to be cautious. If we can align our group riding etiquette with COVID safety guidelines, we should be able to enjoy the company of new and familiar teammates on group rides.

A Momentous Day’: New York Lifts Most Virus Restrictions

Officials made the move after more than 70 percent of adults in the state had received a first dose of the coronavirus vaccine.

Restaurants will no longer be forced to space tables six feet apart or use physical partitions; movie theaters will be allowed to pack their auditoriums without spacing seats apart; and entering commercial buildings won’t require a temperature check.

The changes, which will take effect immediately, mark yet another milestone in the economic recovery of a state that was once an epicenter of the pandemic, and are expected to bring back the type of scenes familiar to most New Yorkers in prepandemic times.

We have an appointment with our pediatrician for this Saturday! I'm so excited, I can barely contain myself.

So happy to see this thread is celebratory. I saw you'd posted here and my heart sunk. There are going to be a lot of parents crying tears of relief in the next week or so.

St. Louis County where I live the cases/10k number is the highest it's been this year 46.5

Last year they closed the schools at 50...
AWESOME!!!!

My daughter's school has it.

Only problem is that I'm sure most families will be doing it.

Godspeed, Jules. Northeast infection rates have remained stubbornly steady through the Delta surge while most other regions have seen ebbs and flows. Possibly because of our higher adult/adolescent vaccination rates and people are less fearful of heading out and socializing, etc. Anecdotally I know of a few colleagues in their 30s who caught Delta by going out a lot since being vaccinated, lost their sense of smell/taste but otherwise fine and once they were out of quarantine moved on right back into their social lives.
I've been back teaching since September, everyone masked up, all teachers vaccinated. I'm not sure how many of my students are vaccinated but the majority of them are cool with keeping masks on. I work in a small but crowded school (smallest class is ~13 kids, largest class is 29).

So far, our building has had 1 reported positive case (it was a school security guard, I believe). It seems kind of unreal, but masks, health screeners, and vaccines seem to be doing their job.
Spent 30 minutes getting a CVS appointment, then get an email announcing school jabs on the 9th. Good news though.
There has definitely been an anecdotal surge here; both boys have been quarantined at various times recently after potential exposures; the boys across the street the same - various teachers & neighbourhood families etc.

Lisa is still seeing plenty at work, although it's 100% unvaccinated people.
Got my booster yesterday! Given I work in educational settings at times (college Audio/Video installs) and massive gatherings of people (audio engineering concerts) I called ahead to my doctor and got the go ahead. Was able to get an appointment literally the next day through NYC DOH and it was a super smooth experience. Definitely fatigued today and a ton of soreness in the shoulder but other than that happy to be boosted! If you have the time/even loosely meet the requirements I can't stress enough how important it is to get re-upped. Civic duty and all that!
