 Route yesterday was very short and boring but I saw @mugwump headed back across the GWB as I was headed out and that's the most important part of it!

Had a few deers jump out in front of me on my standard route out east today. Reminded me of a few stages back during the Vuelta this year. They seem delicate from the side of the road but when they leap out right near you you realize just how big they are. Slamming into one would be catastrophic.

I once had a young deer run across the road , panic and try to stop but skidded on the tarmac , hitting my handlebars 
, luckily no damage , but scary as hell

I got caught in a small pedestrian tunnel with three deer - their hooves skittering on the pavement. I though for sure I was gonna eat and uncooked venison and pavement sandwich but all four of us made it out upright.

Deer on the road are definitely a panic on the verge of wetting your pants kind of thing.  

As it should be.  

Today counts. An unbelievable 70 degree day in the northlands. No stops, except to eat snacks. Can’t believe I was riding without sleeves. 

Holy shit, 4 water bottles in November 

Ha! My buddy brought 4, I had 2. I thought there should be a word for the super smooth dirt that we get sometimes. “Gravement” or maybe “grassphalt” but then I learned the proper term is “Gnar-mack”

i'm looking at those 66-67 (19) degree temps forecast for sat. and sun., and already working on a paved road version of last weekend's route from garrison..

What is this "paved road" you refer to?

Took advantage of this amazing day , took the day off heading out with crisp new tires ,took the trad Kissena Sunday route , battled through leaf blowers and a dude shouting “get a car”😩

I've only been up there one other time.  Any recommended roads or segments in this area?

Pretty awesome day.  Was thinking of heading out at 10am, but my daughter told me, "I think we should watch the Vuelta live today.  Roglic could lose the red jersey and the race ends tomorrow."  So we did.  

Just after Roglic crossed the line, there were shouts and horns being honked on the street.  I didn't realize Roglic was so popular.

Then I rolled out for a nice 73 mile ride.  Hate global warming, but with the winter (or maybe "winter" this year) fast approaching, any day in shorts and short sleeves should be maximized.

While the packs are still annoying, I was happy to see that there were some looser groups of people on hybrids rolling back on 9W.  Bike boom.

And I saw two of those EF/Palace/Rapha jerseys on the road.

A little victory lap in 60+ degree weather. Ran into some rather unequivocal beaver evidence...

I hit the trails upstate for probably the last time this year. Not easy to see them with so many leaves. Such an amazing morning.





And I ran across this. Went back with a bag and harvested almost 4 pounds and had a delicious omelet for breakfast.

 

Amazing , I often see mushroom on the trails , I should get a book to study which ones are safe .....or fun😁

On Sunday, I drove to Edgewood as I had only been there once on a CX bike. That time, i did like 10 loops on the main trail. This time, I rode every off shoot and was surprised to be out there for like 2.5 hours. The trail is kinda meh. There's nothing that really sticks out (apart from some really fun up and down off camber stuff, felt VERY Rainey Park-ish). The main features were super skinny trails that my bars couldn't squeeze through. It might be more fun on a CX bike. Still, always good to spend a bunch of time outdoors. Also saw a snake on the trail which was kind of surprising in early November.

Haha yes! Its almost comical how many times the trail makes you do those little halfpipe like turns.

Took my traditional route up to Scarborough today.  The South County Trailway was subtly treacherous, with leaves covering the path in many sections and hiding some pretty big holes.  I was expecting rain for the entire second half of the ride, but it never happened.  Just got dark and windy.

Didn't go super long this weekend but had a nice ride upstate in West Kill! The roads out here are either up or down so I ended up descending ~1000ft for the first 15 miles and then climbing all of that back in 1.5 miles. It was STEEP. 

Saw Ricky at the GWB heading back as I was heading out.

Pretty quiet and dark and windy.  About as November as could be.

Rode quite a bit of gravel.  Along the reservoir in Haworth, from Rockland Lake to Nyack, from Nyack to Piermont, from Piermont to 9W.  Quite empty and packed pretty hard.

of note: The entry to Nyack Beach state park is closed.  Doesn't mean you can't get in and out of the park though.  I came south from Rockland Lake, found it was closed, so I followed the path to a steep hill that is mostly rideable save the final 50' or so, where there's a rock lip that's too tall for me to jump.
