So stoked for tomorrow! I would love to try to be in a break with a couple guys. I've been feeling pretty good lately, but I don't want to overhype stuff. Chris and I just finished cleaning/tuning our bikes up and carb loading. Off to bed and ready for tomorrow.

It's windy out there tonight. I expect a right cross wind on the home stretch. Be careful out there. I wish I could be there watching shouting things at you. JP's right the start is going to be important in this race. Line up and get to the front immediately. Burn some matches taking wind in the early laps on the wide home stretch if you need to get to the front.

It is MUCH EASIER to race a crit from the front, than from the back. If you are at the back you will suffer.

5:45 Brooklyn Bridge. Some folks have suggested brining an old sweatshirt you don't mind throwing off (and never seeing again) right before the start. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Just texted the Grants Tomb crew and I'm told that Malcolmson smashed the Cat IV - he won by "15 bike lengths"

The plan was for John to be the my last leadout guy, pull me from the u turn to the memorial and I finish it. I got positioned fairly well with 3 or so to go, but got swept off John coming into the bell lap U and a guy got in between. John lit it up like he was supposed to and just gapped EVERYONE off and mowed down 2 guys dangling off the front. Once I saw John roll that gap I stayed put and tried my best to break it off the field even more because at this point the lead group was single file. Fake pulled near the front and the field didn't really start to come around until the monument, by then John was longggg gone. I wanted to do the teammate in the field hands up when I saw him win it, but I didn't want to push my luck. I possibly could've jumped around the gap guy, but I didn't want to risk dragging someone up with me. A win for the team is a win for me. John really motored, he took it from the U turn to the finish all by himself, and just rode everyone off his wheel. It brought a tear to my eye. I definitely can learn from John, he shot gaps like a champ, and moved up and hung out top 10-15 all race long like it was a piece of cake.

As far as the race before that, I for the most part spent the time sheltered, but nary was their a moment a Kissena bro wasn't off the front or patrolling. The break guys can expound on how their race went a little better. The hill didn't really make the race tougher, imo. People just didn't hit it hard. I would take a reasonable line, pedal through, and be up peoples asses powering through in the saddle.

Overall, I think we hit the goals we set out for, and made a big impression with dudes always on or off the front, lined up 3 guys for last 3 laps or so, and won it.

I crashed out with two to go, coming up the rise of 122nd; I was in pretty good position near the front but there were still some chugalugs slowing WAY down up the rise and I touched wheels with the dude in front. He stayed up, I went down and another fellow crashed on top of me. Lay there for a minute, assesing my hurt and had a fleeting thought about hopping back up and trying to catch back on...then took a deep breath, admitted to myself that with two to go that was never going to happen, and that without being sure of the extent of my injuries it would be crazy stupid to try to finish the race.

All in all, though, I raced a much better race this year than last year; took better lines, stayed near the front and even tried a little counterattack (which totally failed, but still!) after a long effort by Malcomson. Speaking of, as I limped towards the finish Joe rolled up and told me about John's win - and for a second, all my pain was forgotten.

Well done, John; you're my hero.

Props to Cat4 Kissenas in general.
