WEnt to the GWB because I didn't feel I had the legs to ride decently at the L&C.
Adam Yaffe, (James Reeder), and (Marc Bertucco) were there.
A small group, but we did some fun turny downhilling in Tenafly and Cresskill, and rolled nicely on the low road--James even ramped up the pace so we could sprint for Stateline.
Adam turned off in Piermont. James on the backside of Bradley. Two left. Kept going. Kept removing layers. First the vest, then the gloves, then the knee warmers.
Glad I didn't race, my HR wasn't responding to hard efforts and I could barely stay above threshold for two minutes.
But, rolling back on 9W, two small groups passed us just before that Market in Palisades. We decided to get them back. We passed the first on Stateline, the second on the next hill, and then the first group came back to us just before the scout camp--and promptly stopped. They had dropped some folks.
We picked up the pace a bit to make sure we could stay away from the groups. Only two guys passed us after Hillside. I gave them about 30s of leash and then reeled them in and kept going hard. They were gone. We cut the jets after turning off of 9W. That first group passed us just before Strictly. And stopped again.
I was going down to Union Square for the end of my ride. And that first group came flying by me again at West 94th. They were sloppy and attacking each other. I got away from them again. When I thought they were gone for good, at W72nd, three of them passed me. Oy. I kept them a safe distance ahead of me til I got on the West Side Path. Their group was down to one. But he was hammering, taking chances like squeezing between a wobbly runner and a bollard. When I saw him wave his arm at a guy who was walking in the bike lane, I decided I had enough of tailing his sketchtastic performance, and cut the jets for good.
