Rain was ok , trail times at Graham Hills il
When Patrick orders the Apple Tart , everyone orders the apple tart
T'was good, but would have been exquisite had it been warm
I will be at BB at 8am Saturday with a prospective member for a Meet Kissena ride. (Will also be at GWB at 9) Plan is to ride to 9W market and back (although may change that to Piermont). All are welcome and can return off and do longer if you need more speed or distance. Join us
Do we meet on the NY side of GWB? Thinking I will finally make it out this weekend

Jersey side.
I’m going solo to GWB today for a training ride, may see you guys at some point.

Tomorrow my plan is ~60mi unstructured so planning Jersey side again if anyone wants to meet 9am GWB
I'm possibly in.  I think GFNY is tomorrow too.
It is tomorrow, might be a headache trying to go to the other side. I’m considering doing a loop out through Coney Island and back, or having Strava invent a 60mi for me out to LI. A bit wary of riding Brooklyn/Queens/East Long Island.

Except for the part on Lido blvd, this is a pretty nice route if you go on the early side. Weather isn’t great tomorrow, so the beach won’t be too busy. https://strava.app.link/maUmZVX3HJb
That does look pretty nice, and fun!
What's the haps this weekend? I'm trying to plan an early bird special on Saturday, but may need to swap for Sun or Mon.
I'm possibly in for an early long ride one of the days (Orchards?).  Likely Saturday, but I'm not sure which day yet.
I’m probably up for something Monday

I am leaning pretty heavy on riding Cunningham Saturday on my cross bike! come join me... say around 9:30 am at the East Side Entrance.
Okay I'm in for Cunningham Saturday 930, but I have to bounce by 1030. Sunday is family time and then Monday I plan on joining for long (preferred early start).
Im down for a long (road) ride. Wouldn’t mind doing a straight out and train back. Maybe Bear + Peekskill? Bummer that Storm King still closed.
Monday weather looking the iffiest
If I don’t hear from others, my plan is to do a solo 4-5hr Z2 ride tomorrow, Saturday the 25th, BB 8am, GWB at 9, river road to market for coffee, 9W back. I’m a simple man who will do the same route over and over.
I may be in for Monday.
I'm going long tomorrow.  GWB at 8.  Either Orchards or this route: https://strava.app.link/qAbWfHR6RJb

@Jeff Condon and myself have done really long ride each year , normally in the height of summer ,this year we did it this weekend, 20degrees cooler than our ride last year ,
Patrick joined us and we took on the Super Bowl 2024 century route ( props for some quiet and pretty roads to JP )
I was struggling the last 10 miles before Bear mountain and took the climb very slowly
happy for a coke and a water at the top , we bumped into 2 women on NYCC , who said ”i thought you guys would be racing a crit “ We
Stopped at Tomkins cove then Patrick took us on a gravel path along 9w and into Nyack which brought welcome shade ,
felt much better on 9w and pretty good all the way home
137.7 total for the day

Unless it's pouring, I'm going to be at GWB NJ side 8am. Depending on the precipitation it'll either be a straight shot to Piermont via river road to 9w or low roads, either with Bradley/Tweed option thrown in.

Steady Freddy ride, trying to get some miles in.
Solo group ride today. A few college students were at GWB trying to figure out their route to Princeton and a few riders coming the opposite direction headed back but that was it. Lots of nature out in the form of deer and turkeys and geese. Passed by some early memorial services and parade prep. It's been a while since I rode any sort of distance without hiding behind wheels and the difference in effort and end of ride legs is huge. It was just what I needed to set where my fitness level is.

Also didn't stop for coffee and I took the biggest nap when I got home.

Next Saturday, June 1st! Come out for the KCC x Ride Brooklyn ride!
Mark Taylor and I hit Stillwell woods on our mountain bikes but had an unexpected experience. About an hour into the ride near a technical section called “snake pit” we came across a guy who had broken his ankle on a jump. He was trying unsuccessfully to scoot up the hill back to the park entrance which was a good distance away. His plan was to get back to parking lot where his wife would pick him up.

I originally thought he said he broke his toe, but when I saw how deformed his ankle was it was clear I misheard and he would have a tough time getting out of the trails. I called 911 and the local fire department called me back quickly but it was a bit difficult to explain where we were. We originally planned to bring the rider to a less remote area but when the police called I decided to ride to the front entrance to meet them.

When I got to the entrance there was an ambulance and a couple of squad cars. This what I had expected. I hadn’t expected what was next, which may be a reflection of the services provided in a swanky town like Syosset, or perhaps what happens when you have a firehouse full of officers finishing up their Memorial Day parade minutes before our call.

Within minutes there were two fire trucks at the park entrance (which did nothing except transport guys in dress blues) and a Nassau county PD helicopter overhead. The best part were the FD ATVs.

I had thought that the EMTs would walk back with me to Mark and the rider which would have taken a good 10 minutes or more. Instead they pulled up on ATVs and we flew to them in no time. Felt like I was bringing the cavalry. These guys seemed giddy to be able to take the ATVs out for a rescue.

I guess the moral of the story is that if you get injured on a mountain bike and need to call 911 do it in a neighborhood with a well funded fire department.

That's awesome. Well, not for the dude with the ankle, obv, but still a good deed.
Also I guess the moral is to break your ankle, do it when you guys are near. That ankle looks very very broken wow

Thank god he had insurance , because that team won't be cheap , The two Fireman looked very happy to get out on the quads , and mentioned how impressed they were with how quick Patrick was as the trail guide .
Good deed indeed, well done Patrick & Mark, hope the guy heals up quick Glad you were there, this situation would have looked so differently had you not.
I saw the picture and thought you'd gotten pulled over by an overzealous fireman. Good on you guys for helping out.
