Group Ride (Sat & Sun)

Maybe not the right thread for it, I have a 100mi ride on the schedule for this weekend. Due to GWB closure, I'm planning my first wormhole out to Long Island. I am sort of riffing on this route via Strava, not trying to overthink it, but looking for any glaring/eye popping feedback of certain areas to avoid or if this should be generally fine. Looks like I'll have a tail wind out in the morning and a crosswind/headwind on the way back. c'est la vie

Surely you have seen the many discussions on the ride to Montauk thread? https://forum-archive.kissenacycling.com/discussion/1452-p2.html#Comment_124883

But also, isn't this your cx debut weekend?

I'm looking to do this route in the near future (not this weekend).  https://www.strava.com/routes/3227098368234913686

You can also take the south county trail up to the Tappan Zee.  That'll put you in Nyack.

Can you refresh , the link doesn't seem to work
With the GWB , does anyone have any good westchester loops, leaving from NYC etc

hi, I've done most everything on this, a bit over 100 miles from and to the Brooklyn Bridge-- easy to adapt so goes north to a train station and ride the train back to Grand Central for example https://www.strava.com/routes/3275901651261534914

Had it set to private.
Planning again on the Cunningham trails this Sunday at 9am on the cyclocross bike.

Let me know if you wanna join, here or via text: 347.225.1058 -- If I don't hear from anyone, I might change my start time.
Anyone down for a Sunday spin? Bridge opens at 6am:

Chill Early Bird Special (GWB 8a) this Saturday? Would love to work on pace lines.
I can only do Sunday
Chill Early Bird Special (GWB 8a) this Saturday? Would love to work on pace lines.
Kevin (and others) if you're still in I'll be at GWB at 8a. Easy/chill, so I'll most likely bring out the steel bike.
I'm down
Will slack if I can make it.
See you at GWB
It was a pitch perfect day for a ride. Bret, Kevin, his bud David and I (Yang) decided on a standard 9w out and back. I brought out the steel bike with down tube shifters and had a good time learning how to anticipate the gear to be in for state line sprints and rollers. We set a good pace getting into a rotating pace line rhythm. Kevin went way too early for state line, practically at the the bottom of the hill and proved to be an excellent lead out for me. Gave me a chance to figure out the gearing and I got him right at the line. Bret's engine kept the pace high all the way to the cafe in Piermont.

Coffee and an excellent Balthazar scallion and cheese scones later we set off. I watched Bret and Kevin crushing it up pornstar hill which is beautifully paved now. Bret asked if we wanted to check out the lookout and I realized it has been years since the last time I rolled up there. Riding through the fallen leaves was cinematic but dangerous as you couldn't see the potholes and uneven slabs of concrete pavement. I almost ate it a few times but credit my cross training to keep me upright.

We got to the palisades lookout which was spectacular as the trees were just about turning. The Hudson was beautiful and there were hawks and eagles flying below and above us on the cliffs.

Back out to 9w where we took solid 1 minute pulls into a headwind and before we knew it, we hit gas station sprint where I hesitated for a second and Kev took it. He also took the freshly paved Hudson Terrace sprint where this time I went too early because I was overthinking the gearing. And Bret kept dieseling through over the bridge and to riverside drive (also freshly paved!). We hooked up to a few guys who absolutely hammered it down riverside like we were on a breakaway. A few blocks before we hit the turn off I let the wheel go in front of me and rolled backwards. I blame the shallow wheels.

It was a good ride, exactly what I was looking for with some real world pace line drills and hard efforts and beautiful views with friends. See you next ride!

Anyone up for another early ride Saturday? Thinking 8am gwb, nice chill endurance pace, low roads out, stop in piermont for a coffee and then 9w back

I'm down.
Same, no hammer, cream puff ride.
Also I wouldn't be mad if we added Bradley Tweed at cream puff pace.
I'm a tentative
I might be in some cream puffin'.
Saturday 10/19
Crème de la Cream Puffs
8am GWB
Low Roads > Bradley/Tweed > Piermont cafe stop
Cream Puff Pace
cream puff pace for the win!
I’m going for a bear mountain ride, but also leaving GWB at 8. Will likely sit on your wheels for the first hour or so and then try to convince you all to just come along to Bear. :)
Don't tempt me with a good time!
also tentative, I am definitely riding up north but may opt for a later start time
Alright, I will be there. Ya'll are dragging me out of bed early! @LennartZandbergen probably not in for a full bear but I would go past Piermont with you
Small but real chance I may have to bail due to work emergency. Executive decisions to release a new build on Friday 😑

I need to bail also. My dog ate one of my thick winter shoe covers (the whole sock) so I’m going stay local n do some CP laps and wait for him to throw it up.

Did you get the cover back intact?

I will attempt another early bird ride tomorrow.
