It didn't take a lot of convincing for @MaxBucksbaum to do the Bear ride with Max N. and me. We took a few roads I hadn't been on before around New City, which weren't to busy and mostly had good pavements - and very pretty fall views.
I noticed my legs weren't as great as I would've wanted them to be while doing the High Tor climb. On Bear, Max and Max dropped me before we even reached the gate. I couldn't really get my heart rate up, so took it easy and enjoyed the views. On top, we saw the same guy Max and I met three weeks ago while we did our ride back from Montauk. New York cycling is a small world, but what are the odds!
My legs cramped up a few times on the way back, although Tomkins Cove Deli pancakes helped. Max and Max kept motoring the whole way back over 9W. Some impressive riding from them both considering that it was Max B's biggest ride ever and that Bear was Max N's biggest climb ever.
Coming back over GWB was madness again - feels like the bike path is getting busier by the week, with a lot of people feeling the need to walk three abreast or to suddenly get off their bikes in the middle of the path. Big accidents are waiting to happen there.
Was not planning on riding that far yesterday, but had never done a century and figured this would be a good last chance before the weather turns. Felt good aerobically, but going up bear started to get some major cramps which had me concerned for the ride home.
Thankfully was able to get it somewhat under control for the rest of the ride. I do think it was more due to fatigue as opposed to under-fueling. By mile 85 I was hurting pretty bad, and the ride back through Manhattan made me want to move out of this city indefinitely.
Still, glad that I did it. Nice cap to this year of riding.
Awesome, wish I could have joined. Never underestimate getting good hydration and electrolytes, etc. - especially when it is deceivingly warm and sunny and very very low humidity as it's been for a few weeks - you lose a lot more than you think.
I’m thinking of keeping the fall vibes going Sunday. Ride up to orchards, get some cider and donuts, catch some foliage. 9am gwb, will be a simple route up 9w through nyack and piermont and then back roads back to the bridge
Any chance you'd do tomorrow vs Sat or are you hitting fall foliage? i am planning to do a Bradley Tweed run; have a 6hr unstructured ride on my plan for the weekend so I may wormhole it
Sadly I can't go long tomorrow. I'm on strict timing for family things (need to be home by 10) so I'm probably just gonna roll around my neck of the woods for a bit
I’m gonna go short tomorrow, River Road to Market/Piermont for coffee and back on 9W. Gonna try and drive to Grants on Sunday and go longer. EDIT: didn’t feel well Sunday so did a rest day
I will be at the bridges at the usual times. Seeya out there. Would love company. I had a bad cold recently so my fitness level is terrible, so I’m mostly trying to stay in Zone 2.
Gonna go a coffee ride tomorrow to Piermont. 9am GWB, easy pace (with a sprint at the state line of course), motor back on 9W and put some small efforts in.
Most likely going to hit Cunningham for easy skills and then take the track bike next door to Kissena to test out the new wheels! Depending on who wants to hit the oval or the trails I can be flexible in the morning.
My plan tomorrow is PP laps for 2h45m. Sun will def be a GWB day for me, looks like it wont rain until the afternoon so I'll plan to be GWB by 9 unless anyone wants to go earlier.
If there is nothing happening at the track I'm going to head to Kissena and do some easy gear laps Saturday morning/tomorrow. I've been stress binging halloween chocolate and sitting all week.
Saw that when I woke up, hope the damage isn't too bad . The smoke smell is pretty strong up in N. Brooklyn; I'm going to do my laps in Central Park in a bit.
