Prospect Park Weekday Morning Training

Saw Condon, with the TT setup, this am when I was doing 1x10 intervals - homeboy was looking strong.
Thanks Tito just testing out the bars for tomorrow. Trying to beat last year's time.
Time to start kicking ass. Yes you thought you were riding well already.... Tuesday ride endurance. Just ride as a group. Double pace One steady. Wednesday is 2x2 lap tt day. Start at base of hill and climb that hill 3x Thursday is back to Tuesdays workout.
Small group of 4 this morning so we ended up single file.  A very large unruly park group kept overlapping with our little paceline so after a few laps we cut through Center Dr. to avoid them.

I need to work on a smooth transition when it's my turn at the front and pulling off more gracefully.  Will have to practice on Thursday.

I noticed this morning that you're pulling off to the left pretty wide and hanging out there in the wind - all you need to do is edge slightly to the left, and stay nice and close as the line comes by you. If you want to make it obvious that the next guy should pull through use the ol' elbow wag.

Nice endurance pace today!

I'm joining you guys the next two mornings, really looking forward to it. See you out there.
McKay, I'm not going to make it tomorrow; just hang on to the glasses for a bit.

It was myself, Eric and Thierry at GAP this morning. Eric stayed with us for about half a lap then did his own thing. Thierry and I rode together for most of the first TT lap and then separated.

My first set of laps was 19:49, avg and max HR 173 and 187 respectively; second set is undetermined as I apparently didn't hit the lap reset button on the Garmin hard enough; comparing with the Cateye the second set was comparable if not a bit slower. I have to learn the ins and outs of setting the Garmin to do this stuff automatically.

I caught up with Thierry briefly on the cool down and then headed home.

Some (possibly tri) guy played tag with me on my last lap, first edging ahead then again falling behind me...I managed to keep ahead of him until he made a (clearly planned) effort approaching the finish line.

I'll be out again tomorrow morning.
Got home way late and decided sleep deprivation is worse than having to train after work.  I'll see you out there tomorrow, Patrick.
A good, if small, group this morning, where the humidity was thick enough to make it the beginning of a fat Dickens novel, with the fog rolling in over the Thames.
Kayt, Pat, Thierry and Eric.  We rolled around in a double paceline and were joined by a non-Kissena, with something about Chai on his jersey.  I thought about earl gray in my water bottle, or possibly iced coffee.  In an attempt to change into a rotating paceline, things got a bit confusing and I got a bit pissy and dropped off the back.
My apologies to the group for this.  While I'm always happy to bring my bad mood on the bike for a solo ride, as it makes hard efforts and hills that much more devilish, I don't like flashing it at teammates as though it were bare skin beneath a trench coat.
We eventually regrouped, lost our Chai rider, and formed a good, working rotating paceline.  When it works well, and you're with teammates you trust, it's a good activity.

Not by coincidence, regarding my mood, I had decided last week to back way off on my training for a couple of weeks.  I don't need that much riding to maintain my current fitness levels, and I do need to spend more time off the bike, to appreciate the time on the bike, lest I burn out mid-season.

It was good to ride with everyone today, and I'm glad for your patience.  And I'm looking forward to supporting Kayt in her first race, coming up in July.

@Bruce, you're so damn classy you should be given special club permission to rock this tuxedo jersey all the time.

I will be out tomorrow morning at 7 if anyone wants top join for openers. I'll give pointers and urge you on.

Let me know if this is interesting. Of not I might nee able to make it earlier or later.
If its not raining I'll be out for openers.
I'll be out there at 6 doing tempo and openers.  Missed this morning and can't get out tonight because BBQ!

Don't do the tempo. Just the openers.

I'd come out earlier, but I am just not in that mood yet (enjoying first couple of days of vacation) to get up and ride so early.

10-4 coach.  You don't have to convince me to take it easy!

I'm down for openers - how long we talking about, Eric?  (need to be home by 8.15 or so)
7 am openers sounds civilized. Think I'll join you.

they only take about an hour, more if you want.

I'm in; see you then.
Coach?
Shhh he's asleep....
If it isn't terrible weather I will be out trying some tempo. If I'm not at GAP I will be waiting at the bottom of the hill...
This week is a mirror of last...
Sorry, I'm on vacation.
Good times today - saw Whitey, Yang, Triathlete DGG and Kayt... I think I saw a blue Sky helmet and some hair legs go by... was that Adam?

Prospect Peloton were so big they split into two groups - makes me yearn for the days of rain & 40 degree weather again...

I was there, but if you saw hairy legs
and a blue Sky helmet it wasn't me. I'm happy to say my legs are as smooth as silk -- Clifford can confirm. (Though that sounds way worse than I intend.) May have been @AshleyB, who cruised by me while I was cooling down.
i can confirm that adam's legs are smooth.  i will not confirm why i know that.

Got to GAP late, sorry for anyone who waited.  Kayt, managed to run into you right after my second TT set.

2x2TT+hill

Set 1 - 20:00
Set 2 - 19:42

Feeling pretty tired these days and the TT times reflect that.  These times are a full 1:xx slower than last week's.  YIKES.  I need more sleep...

Random note, just as I got to the park in the SW entrance and was maybe 50m out, heard a familiar crunch behind me.  Looked back and saw a random rider sprawled out on the road just after the chute/bend.  I was about to ride back, but there were a handful of joggers and a few other cyclists that were right there so I rode on.  One warmup lap later, a rider was hanging before the triangle telling people to slow down.  The ambulance hadn't come yet and a crowd of about a dozen had formed around the guy who's head/face was pretty banged up.  They had laid him flat on his back and he looked pretty dazed.  No-name kit.  One more lap around (first TT lap), FDNY ambulance and firetruck were there cleaning up and pulling away.

It was just him who crashed, no other riders/joggers/peds, so I'm assuming maybe he was making that bend at the chute and was trying to avoid something, stop too fast, and locked up his rear and slid out (was still pretty damp & with leaves/dirt in that section).
