Prospect Park Weekday Morning Training

@Kayt - I mean awesome on the fact that you have a cx bike now, not that you have new bruises and such.. :-)
Waiiiit a minute -  where is the secret CX theme park in PP??
@Alex: It's more of a forgotten corner of the park than theme park, with a high population of rabbits, and the odd jogger or drunk dude passing through (the latter seem very confused about cyclocross). There are actually a few places in the park that are great for cross that Jim and I'm sure others know about, though I believe you have to be sworn to secrecy :) You should come to a 6 am practice session next week!
Hm, I see I'll have to drag it out of you in person...

I keep aiming to get back on the 6am train, but with an infant in the house my sleep schedule is somewhat more unpredictable* than usual!

I'll try to make it out soon though.. :)

* I may have confused the word "unpredictable" with "nonexistent". This also applies to my training schedule, for the same reason. :)
@jules. You've been elevated into my handling category. Awesome!
Surely a clerical error. Call USAC and get it sorted.
@Kayt ask far & wide, but “if you ain't flying, you ain't tryin...”

I think I podiumed in the 40+ Yardsale category many a time...

Practice and ibuprohophin...
Who will join me tomorrow morning??
Dark, overcast, cold, humid.
Hand raised in the back of the class.  Sure, wouldn't miss it!
See you in the A.M.
Not sure what I'm targeting... mid/late season CX, holiday gluttony, looking good in a skinsuit come April... but I might as well keep up the training while I sort that out. See you guys dark & early!
You guys are nuts!  If it's not too terrible out I may join you with fenders.  One thing I forgot to get in the last kit order was a rain jacket...sad trombone.
The weather predicts no rain tomorrow so no worries Mr Yang.
I'll join you guys tomorrow. Though Thierry is right about the weather, you had me at dark, muggy and cold --  just to make sure i'm not out there at the wrong time and place... 6a/GAP, correct?
@joel 6AM at GAP is correct
I'm in for tomorrow. Mid Fifties and no rain. Sounds like it'll be a good morning.
hi folks, i wont be joining tomorrow. but @glori will be, keep an eye out!
Whoops, slept right through the alarm.
It was a chilly morning with a pretty good wind that picked up and always seemed to be in front of us, despite riding in circles.  We had a large group this morning, nice to see familiar faces in the early morning pitch dark, and a couple of ladies joined us I hadn't met before.

We rode a double-paceline and Jessica began to struggle a bit keeping position until she fell off the back.  I backed out of the group and gave her my wheel up the hill, but she wasn't keeping up.  The other woman, sorry, I don't remember her name, was waiting at GAP for us, so I rode back up to the group to report, and Erika and Kayt dropped back to join them.

Thierry, Josh, Jay, Joel and I kept a spirited paceline for a few more laps and Josh kindly let me talk his ear off.

Were these newly minted members I haven't met, or riders thinking about joining?  I feel bad about dropping someone during a training ride in the park, especially since today I had no plan except to ride in circles, but I'm glad Kayt and Erika regrouped to give some good old Team Support.

Then I ran into Thierry on our commute, nice to see you again, and found I couldn't ride over the Brooklyn Bridge because of a demonstration.  It's about time they stopped bikes on that bridge, it's too damned crowded.
Perfect fall weather — persistent headwind, slight chill, and crunch of leaves under tire. Shorts w/ arm warmers weather. Might be time to break out the wool socks.

I knew we might be in trouble when fresh legs took over just before the hill. Kayt and I dropped back for Glori and Jessica, thencut across Center Drive in hopes of rejoining the group before the hill, but we must have just missed you guys. We continued with the double paceline for a few before Jessica and Glori had to split. Kayt then treated me to a lap of sprints, which I continued for a final solo lap.

Beautiful sunrise over the lake, btw. Worth staying out past 7am and dealing with the cars.
Thanks bruce,... and great meeting up with everyone this a.m. I'll be out of town till next week (invite is open for a Montauk ride if anyone is near out there this weekend) - anyways, catch ya'll back next week.
I always enjoy @Bruce's account of PP morning rides..(like a few other people mentioned before).
@bruce, it was also nice to see you while doing our commute. I like that urban/commuter style of yours!

Anyone want to join me in Prospect tomorrow around 7am for some lappage?

Hullr!
I'll be up at 6:00 AM for some TT action.
@WDC - I'd be in for that. I'll be doing some hard-ish 20:00 reps, but it's nothing you couldn't sit on pretty easily if you're not into catching too much wind.
Sorry I'm not going to be able to join you guys for a while. I'm in Mountain View for a couple of weeks, but at least I can go riding while I'm here :)  http://www.strava.com/activities/87746709

I just wish the sun came up earlier so I could enjoy the scenery... on the other hand, it's kind of interesting to ride unfamiliar roads in the dark.

60 percent chance of rain in the morning. If it holds off, I plan on being at the park at 6. Will most likely not if it's raining however.
Raining, cold, miserable.  I'll be at GAP at 6.  Hope to see you there.
Turns out rain or no rain, has no effect on whether I simply sleep through my alarm. Hope it wasn't too cold for you, Bruce and all.
I prepped the Trek with lights, fender and Garmin, saw on the weather report that there was no rain or wind, so moved the lights and computer to the Orbea, got to the door right right on time just as it started raining.  Back up the stairs for the Trek and a hard effort to the park.

I waited a minute at GAP as hearty joggers (wearing all black!  Why do they do that in the pitch dark?) passed me and then Kayt showed up!

We rode in circles, muscling our way through the wind that started picking up, chatting, being pelted with on and off drops of rain.  It was a pleasant enough ride with a teammate, quiet in the park, few people out.  When, from the very depths of the coldest parts of the Lake, a monster crossed my path, a veritable Ork with shoulders made from muscle, clawed hands that made me wonder at their chill if they were wrapped about my neck, eyes as black as bottomless pools in caves.  I cried out Look Out, Watch your Wheel, my God, get your guard up!
Kayt said it was an opossum.
I beg to differ.  At 6am, in the dark, with rain and wind, an empty stomach and tired legs, it was an Ork I tell you.
We parted ways as the sun waited quietly behind cloud cover.

Was it Heidi, das schielende Opossum?
