Prospect Park Weekday Morning Training

No rain this morning in the park but foggy. I had a great time doing my 5X5 thresholds
Was up late with the kid last night and overslept. Still going to head down to PP but will probably miss you this morning.
I probably won't be in the park on Wednesdays for the next month.  This is my new anchor day, and how I use the rest of my vacation time before I lose it.  Yesterday, I took a ride up to the GWB and was having trouble clipping in with my right foot.  When I finally got off the bike to take a look, I found all my cleat bolts loose and one missing.  Because of the warmer weather, I had switched from my winter shoes to my training shoes.  So, reminding everyone, time to tighten and retorque your bolts, check your cleats for wear, get new ones for racing, and for the love of Team don't put on the new White bar tape until May!

In the park this morning for Pyramid intervals and got passed by Adam - I was recovering in the small ring, honest.  Rode with Thierry and Eloy for half a lap before they pulled their Blue Angels routine and took off left and right.
Josh, I must have just missed you in the park this morning.

There was a solid wind today, so even though I was training in Zone 5b, I was only going 14mph.  There's a day, in late April or May, when I go to the park and realize that I'm going 2mph faster than I normally do on any stretch of the road, and feel incredibly strong and glad to see my training is paying off, until I realize the wind is simply gone, and, as a big rider, I'm not getting buffeted any more.  That's the day that racing gets fast and serious in the park.
Too true about the wind! There were a couple times riding along the river down Kent on the way to the park that it just about stopped me in my tracks.
sorry I missed seeing you guys, but hope to catch up with everyone soon.
Can we call an "official" start to the weekday morning training rides in Prospect Park again? I miss you guys.

Aside from that, I know several people who routinely ride in the park are also following the Peaks Coaching regimen. Suffering together is better than suffering alone, right?

6 AM at GAP. Who's with me?
I'll be there tomorrow. Altho, tomorrow is easy day!!
I should be starting to get out there soon.

I really really should......
Adam and I did our respective sprint workouts sorta together this morning on Central Drive--nice to have company and take guesses as to how many yards are between each lamp post.

Anyone up for endurance laps tomorrow am?

I will be joining you and parler le francais!
Would have loved to have caught you guys this morning, sprints are one of the few workouts that are kinda fun together.

Hoping to join you all tomorrow.
Guys, now it's calling for possible rain tomorrow am :(
I'll probably be out in the morning unless the rain is relentless. I think
I'd prefer that to two hours on the trainer.
Tomorrow, team that sprints together, wins together.

Meet at 6:30 am at GAP Prospect Park.

Everyone is welcomed, but special for those following Tim's training plan:
  • 6 x 50-yard Small Ring Sprints (39:16)
  • 3 x 150-yard Middle Ring Sprints (53:17)
  • 3 x 250-yard Big Ring Sprints (53:16).
I actually was able to ride my bike in the park this morning. Damn what a beautiful morning. Did some Center Drive intervals and then rode with Bruce and Thierry for a couple laps. Fantastic start to the day.
We need to rejuvenate this thread and the practice of riding together. This morning I connected with Dale and Jules as they were finishing up their Peaks prescribed intervals. As we noodled along Adam Fabian rode on by as did new member Scott Kuhlke (I think). Towards the end Jeff Condon caught us and joined the conversation.

Yesterday morning, Jules and I found each other despite both of us riding incognito (not in KCC kit). We both of us had laundry to do.

I won't be out tomorrow, but if you are, let others know if you want some company.

That was me in my CU jersey ... waiting on my Kissena jersey in a July.  I'm down to meet with folks in the morning, I won't be out on Thursday (tmrw) , but I will be out again on Friday.

Also, didn't see one car this morning, but signs are up that Prospect Park will be closed to cars starting July 6.

Technically we were just dodging WADA controls. Good times.

Dale is as always alarmingly fast even when out of shape. Remind me to pick faster parents next season.
6am GAP.
I'm doing speedwork.  Join me for a warmup lap.
You're welcome to do speedwork with me or take off and do your own thing.
If you're new to the club, stop by, introduce yourself and say hi.
Bruce, Avi, Condon, Dale and me. Felt a little bit like old times, except for the part where my legs are made of caka.

Thanks for the company lads.
Cake, Jules, did you say your legs are made of cake?  Mmm, cake. . .
Yep, I get hungry after rides.

A nice morning that started with me removing my bike lights.  It was only dark in my apartment.  I made my way to GAP with a seatpost freshly carbon-greased and there was nary a sound or click.  Losing all that weight was probably a good thing, too.
Great to meet up with you, Jules, and Dale.  We formed the 'Get Yer Keister Outta Bed' crew, Jules on his brand new Giant Propel, while Dale was on his brand new Giant Propel.  I'm thinking I need to make an executive decision and be like every independent grown man and ask my mom for one.

Dale pushed off with the NYCC crew that had formed ahead of us.  Jules and I got in a warmup lap and then I cranked it up a bit for some speedwork.  Once at the 3rd light after the bottom of the downhill, I slowed and was promptly passed by Jules doing his workout.  We played leapfrog like that a few times.

I eventually jumped into the Peloton crew with Avi and a group of others - kinda sketchy at the back, I must say.  I had to do a double-take when I saw Eric M walking his dog and baby, which is no doubt a threshold workout - difficult to recognize people in street clothes, without a bicycle.  Nice to see you, it's been a while.

Nice to meet up with teammates and say good morning, especially before a workout with my foot unclipped.  We'll have more of these in the coming days and weeks.  Great to see you guys.

If you can't quite make the 6am meetup, well, get yer keister outta bed.
If you're thinking about doing CX, with July on the horizon, gykob.
If you're up late with your baby or work or loved one, well, I got nothing for that.  Keep your priorities straight.  But really, get yer keister outta bed.
#GYKOB
My kids are away at camp for two weeks , so i'm going to try and get out with you guys next week
Nice to see you guys out there thrashing away! Yes, these days you are more likely than not to see me with a dog and probably a kid strapped to my chest. If you do see me on my bike beware the turbulence created by my fuzzy legs. The ensuing cyclone will eat your fancy deep dish carbon wheels for breakfast.
#GYKOOB update; good times this morning with Scott K; that guy has some serious suplesse!

Spied Eloy arriving just as I was dashing home to start the next batch of donuts.
I can't make it tomorrow due to a work commitment.  That's the first Tuesday in a while I've missed.  Possible rain on Wednesday.  Post if you're meeting at GAP and get in a good warmup lap with teammates.
Good times this morning. Ran into Jim, who pushed me for a solid 25 minutes of threshold and then we picked up both Eloy and Craig. Craig is rocking his pre-Alps tall-boy MTN bike derailleur and a 32 tooth rear mech.

Also, big shout-out to Vlad who I spied yesterday morning on his ride-of shame as he crossed back into Bklyn on the Manhattan bridge. He was taking full advantage of that aero helmet...
Nice seeing folks this morning. Lots of Kissenas throughout the park.

In the past we've always tried to meet up at the GAP triangle at 6:00 and roll at 6:05. If I'm able to make it out (not often these days) I try and make a point of being there just to see if anyone is around to ride with. Understood that folks are on different schedules and programs, but if your just out at that time for a spin, or have no particular program in mind, then try to make a point of seeing if anyone is there at 6:00. Its much more fun to ride with others.

From this morning

^ I know that guy
When I left the house, after the first traffic light I pulled over to adjust my brakes.  I put on a new Vittoria rear tire with a latex tube last night.  It felt pretty damned good.
A guy walking by said, nice bike, how much?
What's up with this, asking someone how much their bike is worth?  Is it a NY thing, or just my neighborhood?  I have several stock answers now, I've been asked so often.  Today was, oh, no value at all.  That's my generic 5:30 am half-lidded response.  I try not to stop too often near my apartment.

A nice ride on a beautiful morning today.
I met up with Mark at 6 and we jumped onto the rear of the Prospect Peloton, a full group today, including Avi at the front.  Great to see you out there this morning!  We chatted for a couple of solid laps and then I pulled off to do some half-park intervals.

I spied Eloy, and Jeff C doing some hard efforts.  Everyone with eyes to Capital Region.
Not sure if it was the tire or my own low weight, or maybe a couple of 12 hour workdays getting me edgy, but I set a PR on the half-park course.  I haven't seen a PR in the park in a while so I'll take it.
