Such an awesome turnout this morning! I was joined by Reiners, Chaim, Craig Z, Chris, Jim, Adam F, Kristina, Kristin, and Jeff! 10 Kissenas strong! 5 laps and then donuts from Donutplant; not a horrible start to the day. Thanks to everyone who turned up!
Awesome seeing so many faces out this morning. Bummed I couldn't stick with you and join for coffee, although I thought about cruising past the main spots on my way home to see if anyone was around. Next time!
sorry i missed today. sounds like it was a lotta fun.

Tomorrow Friday August 27, CX informal skills and drills in the park. You should know how to figure out the location.

Start 6:30am will go to about 7:30am

Will bring barriers and cones, but likely focus on dismounts and specially remounts.

Join me if you can.
Eloy,

I'll be there. Look for a KOM jersey stretched over my distinctly non-climber physique.

Are you guys meeting at GAP???
Do we need to dress incognito?
Are you guys meeting at GAP???

Folks, please don't put riders ability to use Prospect Park in jeopardy by either riding in the pedestrian lanes or by riding backwards.

Similarly please don't do violate park rules while WEARING CLUB KIT

Thank you,

Jules

if cyclocross had style points, I would podium every time.
so dainty....
I'm planning another 6am PP ride, 7am coffee and donuts for this Wednesday.  Anyone in?
Ooh, you guys are all doing the flappy-bike under-the-saddle-nose grip. Watching the pros, they nearly uniformly lift the bike so the saddle resides in the zone between the body and the arm, allowing for another point of control besides the hand grip:

I hope you are not serious.

The right way:

The wrong way:

(these are photos I took at Nittany 2010, it wont be hard to find Sven Nys doing it both ways, but one is right, the other isn't)
Having paid special attention to this at Worlds as well as numerous elite races in the Northeast, I would put the under-arm technique at 80 percent of all bike lifts by pros. Maybe more. The exception being when the terrain around the barrier is really weird or the barriers are on a corner or some such.

Sure. I believe that, and they are doing it wrong, anything unexpected happens, and well, good luck.

This is still the right way:

Other the in...

so bike carry styles are like belly buttons: Innies and outies.
This explains so much.
I've always done it flappy like, but after watching so many pros leave it between the body and elbow, I've been practicing it that way. It doesn't work with high barriers or on steep stuff, but on straightforward flat barrier sections or something like the low couple of stairs coming up from the beach at Gloucester, the pros have spoken (with their elbows).
whatever works. just own it and do it with style. which sounds like you are.
All this back and forth about bike carry styles , i'm more concerned about Dan's Socks
Blinky lights and humid in the pitch black of morning.  I rolled to GAP a little late after a lap, wondering if anyone would be there and spotted a couple of Jerseys.  Scott and Jim asked what I had planned for the morning - I had a workout set but told them it was too hot to do anything and I was just going to roll.

Scott said he was doing sprints.  We did sprints.
3 per lap, 3 laps, I lost 3 pounds.

Jim was, as always, great with instruction, and Scott has good form and follow-through.  We did a cool-down lap, spotted NYCC in a group ride, the vestiges of the Peloton riding laps, and Mike from Sommerville out on an early Jaunt.
Nice to see familiar faces, good riding with you guys this morning.  Thanks for the motivation.
6am tomorrow, GAP!
