As the defending champion, I must say that this race is the best!!!!
I'd love to see our cat 3's go down there and crush it. Ragot and I had our way with this series (NJ Cat 3) last year.
It's a fun course and a good beginners intro to crit racing as there is only one tricky uphill / potholed turned.

it's ~1 hour and 30 mins by train. it would be better if someone is driving and i could hitch a ride. is anyone driving?

Priced out an hourly rental for an SUV for 7a - 1pm and it comes out to around $140. Plus tolls. Not sure if it's worth it even if we could split it 4 ways.

From Hertz (as of now) - a chevy cruze for the day (Friday evening to Saturday evening) - $75 all in (taxes, airport fees, LDW - prepaid). Its at la guardia though.
I'm not going but its an option for those with a trunk rack in Queens.

Jeff & I went out yesterday on a last minute mission - sorry no shout out there was only room in the C130 for us, our parachutes and of course the high-altitude breathing apparatus required for a HALO drop.
I'm pretty new to crits as my specialty (if I can claim such a thing) has been "The more like Battenkill the better" so I was nervous about the cornering, the recent spate of broken bits and whatnot.
The 4/5 race was thinly attended; us, a few freds two big sprinters from Velocity and a handful of other guys who looked like they knew what they were doing.
This is a fantastic "First Crit" and I encourage anyone who is a little leery of the style to start there - only one tricky turn and it's not so bad once you commit yourself to the ugly stretch of pavement.
I attacked often, usually bringing one of the stronger few with me but although the spirit is willing my legs just aren't ready - yet... hopefully I'll be telling a different story in 6-8 weeks. My body still thinks it's November I guess.
I did a very good job of cornering well (thanks to all the talk about "Looking where you want to exit the turn") and positioning within the pack - my job was mostly to make it hard so that Jeff would have a shot at the finale.
With 3 to go the Siggis guys got up front and Literally (check the graph) got us down to like 16mph. Realizing that it was a bad way to wind up (nobody tired, everyone thinking they could be a hero) I went to the front and drilled it with Jeff a wheel or two behind me. I lasted till 1-to-go and then pulled off at the finish to watch (and film) the fireworks.
That did a good job of guttering most of the field but unfortunately Jeff wasn't able to come out of that last turn in good position.
SOMEWHERE in there I heard somebody screaming about "PIE" but I didn't even realize there WAS a preme, let alone this was the lap for it... Jeff was savvy and is now enjoying the spoils of his cunning while I munch forlornly on a sprig of dill...
I had the GoPro rocking the whole way but am having trouble with a corrupt micro SD card; will post something if I get it sorted.

The coconut custard pie sounds delicious and reminds me of my all time favorite preme. Back in Chi-town, I was on a team called Redline, and one team moms made her homemade salsa...Mama Delgado's Salsa we called it. It was out of this world.
