How come people from every team say "hi" to you when you're in kit except Champ Sys and Siggi's? Got dissed BIG TIME today on 9W by multiple riders from those teams.  Even the "elite" Foundation squadron and Mengoni dudes waved... I feel cold...alone...

My first races as a 4!  I'm getting all teary eyed...I believe this was the infamous "I'm fat" day... here is the race report:

"This is my first race since Isaiah Roazen (tall, skinny kid with a big engine) was born, so I wasn't as sharp as I'd have liked, but it's also a big step down from the likes of Battenkill to Prospect Park.
It's also nice to race where I train, and see some of the familiar faces from the park pinning on numbers.

My first Cat 4 start, it was a little daunting how big the field was, and I definitely spent a few early laps trying to figure out how to navigate the course with that big a group.
In the 5s if you get in a bad position you can make your way back up pretty quickly - here it can take a 1/2 lap or more so maintaining position is even more critical.  I definitely learned that the hard way today.

Kissenna did a solid job on one of the early premes with an early attack & counter; after that I joined an ill-fated break with one Kissenna, one Teany and some other random dude.  Kissenna was clearly not going to work so we all sat up and when the pack caught us I attacked again out of pure frustration.

That hurt.  Rookie move to waste a match like that.

I was all set to drop straight to the back, but I heard Ryan say something as the pack passed me so I latched on mid-pack and recovered.

Overall the race was going slowly; with the leadup to each preme getting even slower... I found this frustrating, so I attacked on the downhill and sadly nobody came or bridged up until I was way too cooked to work.

Back in the pack Chris found me and asked if I was up for a leadout, "Hell yeah" I said and we agreed (more or less) to Jules, Chris, then Garrity

On the last lap I took the front at the top of the hill and started laying on the pain juice.  I was careful not to go too hard and gap Chris but I wanted to make sure the guys were strung out.

I averaged 29 mph for the final 2 miles, and pulled off at the first of the 3 final traffic lights before the sprint.

Chris went by but Ryan (Garrity) had flatted on the final stretch so it was Sad Trombones for us today.

I stuck around the park to ride for another 90 minutes to work off some of my aggression so I missed coffee with the boys.  I probably would have been shitty company anyway.

nothing says fred like a pro team jersey that was specifically bought to match the colors of the bike that isn't actually ridden by said pro team.  especially when that jersey is quite clearly too small.

Mustache was all too real... I will say my bike was not so "Fred". I kind want to build that up again. Konrad was with me... He looked a lot more PRO. This photo was what lead me to ditch the Serpico look.

I wonder if Jules referred to those as "pythons" or "guns"?  Or maybe the "special forces"?

mr da silva, that picture is unreal.  it is so good it looks photoshopped.  it has serious meme potential.  here is my first attempt:

My glory days as a Cat IV.
The first is from Bristol RI, where the back of the photo indicates that I placed 6th.
The second is on the start line at Fitchburg, where I also was top 10. Don't remember the exact placement, but do remember getting a large payout.

I'll let you guess the year. Fitchburg was only a 3-corner crit around the downtown in those days. But still a big deal. They even had a photo of the finish where they physically dragged the film across the camera lens in order to get everyone into a single exposure.

BRC = Boston Road Club, which as far as I know is still going strong.
N.B. Baylen Bicycle Bucket was de rigour for helmets in those days. NO vents! I eventually graduated to the Bell V1 pro, which mimicked the leather hairnets but was made out of styrofoam.

Dave I don't understand how Andrew Da Silva time travelled back to give you the leadout in that first photo but it just makes it even more awesome...
