Welcome, Floris.  I'm glad you decided to join.  It's nice to have a fellow van in the club.
Welome, Floris.  I just joined a month before you and look forward to riding PP and the 9W with you and the team.  See you out there.
What's up everyone?

Late night lurker here. My name is Edwin Ortiz (you can call me Ed) and I just joined yesterday. I am a college student. I was actually at the sub-freezing New Member Ride a couple of weeks ago and it seems like Kissena-folk have a knack for pulling these kinds of stunts... and I like it. :)

I started riding a couple of years ago when I got my first road bike. I've been a bike tinkerer and cycling enthusiast ever since but now I want to get into the racing scene. I raced one cat 5 last summer and loved the challenge. I live in Williamsburg, BK but mostly ride around in Manhattan (Central Park, Westside Greenway, Riverside, etc.). I'm open to riding in Prospect now.

I was off the bike for more than month as I was out of the country studying abroad but I'm anxious to get back on and regain lost fitness.

Looking forward to riding/training with you all and if there are any threads anyone thinks I should be looking at please let me know. I'd like to immerse myself as much as possible, start training, learn skills, and get my hands on your awesome kit. off to bed

Best,

Ed

Welcome Ed! See you on the road.
Welcome Ed; you've joined a crew full of late night W-Burg lurkers and tinkerers... many of whom know how to make a bike go hella fast :)

Hope your toes have thawed since that ride...

J

yo edwin!

welcome to the club.
I'm a bit delinquent with my hellos to the new members so, Hello! Jay, Bruce, John, Floris and Ed. welcome to the club. See you all on the road come spring.
I will LITERALLY quote CraigZ here, as it applies to me as well :)

Hi All,

I'm Craig and I just joined Kissena. I raced the Bethel race yesterday March 3rd in the 3/4's (I'm a 3). Wanted to say hello to my new teammates. I'm doing mostly Bethel series for Spring. No real plans after that. Maybe the crit in Ninigret in RI. I used to do a lot of cross too waaaaay back in '99 and 2000.

Looking for some suggestions on RR's and crits some fellow Kissena's are doing in April and beyond. Look forward to meeting you all.

BTW my pic is from yesterday's Bethel series. Love the colors of the Kissena kit but the Champ Systems bibs are a little tight. Anyone else have that experience- need to size up?

Welcome Craig!

Keep an eye on the "Can't Miss Races" thread in general and the forum home page for specific race threads that pop up for the more popular events like Battenkill. There you'll find what the club is doing and getting excited about.

If you are more interested in Criterium racing, a few of us, like myself and Eric Ragot are focused almost exclusively on racing crits this road season. So you know, if that's your bag, pay special attention to our picks! Memorial Day weekend, there are several days of hotly contested crits in Somervile region of New Jersey. This coming Saturday, is NYC's very own, too legit to quit crit, Grant's Tomb. We've got a killer squad of cat 3s already signed up for this race. I'm sure they'd love to have another weapon in their arsenal this weekend.

As far as cross racing. Well don't get me started. Cross is king. This club gets a little cross nuts and we're one of the few racing clubs in the region that hosts a UCI C2 cross racing weekend every year.

As far as the shorts...something about the relative lack of stretchiness (compared to other shorts I've owned) makes them feel tight. Especially around the leg grippers. I got used to their feel though over the past couple of years. And I've never sized up in shorts.
Craig, if anything, I'm sizing down in Champ-Sys shorts from a medium to a small.  But sizes seem to be getting bigger in general these days.  I review cycling gear and I'm finding that medium shorts are getting bigger and bigger on me.  I used to fit medium Champ-Sys shorts ok, now I'm finding some of the smalls almost too long.

Since there is no sizing standard, probably the only way to discuss is to mention your overall height, the length of your inseam, and the circumference of your legs at their widest point.
Craig - welcome aboard - Craig

(a little bummed I'm not the only Craig any longer)
Welcome Craig!
Craig Zolan - you could start a club, just two more Craigs and you can compete the "David S."  club.
sub-teams!
What about the Eric R team? They're a force to be reckoned with. Especially in the now-defunct MAC B Masters field.
Forgot about the Eric R team. The memories...
I'll have to be the DS for Team David S Androni Giocattoli....otherwise we'll finish DFL in the sub-team beat down...
hello, im wilson just joined after riding with some of you today. i've never raced before but i really flippin want to. i only have track bikes at the moment so i figure ill start on the velodrome. but im really interested in road racing as well. i know very little about racing but i've been riding my whole life. any info on competing would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Welcome aboard Wilson!  If you want to know about racing, you've come to the right place.  I'm new as well, since January, but the seasoned guys here give great advice.  Just ask or peruse the different topics here.
thanks man

Hi all, I'm Dave.  Was at the intro ride yesterday and joined today.  I've been racing unattached for fun since 2009 with occasional hiatuses due to accidents and surgeries.  I never managed to get in 10 full races in a year to upgrade.  Wanted to join a team this year to finally get a bit more serious and to be more involved with the sport.  Looking forward to riding and racing with you all!

Welcome David and Wilson.

It was great riding with you yesterday, and I am glad that you joined up.

Hi all. I submitted the waiver and fee after doing the new member ride Sunday. I have a good feeling about this.

As I mentioned to a few of you yesterday, I'm coming to you after about 5 1/2 years of riding in the city as my main transportation, mostly commuting from my apt in Kensington up to Columbus Circle every day (I moved to a job on Chambers Street last summer which has shortened my commute unfortunately). I ride year round. This has all been on an aging C600, maybe 12,000 miles? I lost track.

While my daily commute will always be a part of my life in NYC, it's time to explore new horizons with this brand new SuperSix that I have merely 100 miles on, and no clips yet. Correct, I have never ridden with clips. This will be a nice steep learning curve for sure. I look forward to your hundreds of years worth of collective knowledge to help me along.

See you soon. Peace out...

Pat
Pat,
Clips are no big thing. Once you use them a couple of times, you'll never go back. I even use them for commuting.
Welcome to the club.
Welcome!  Learning to ride with clips is a bit like learning to ride a bike: seems intimidating at first but becomes second nature.  Although if you're like me (and. I suspect, the majority of riders whether they admit it or not!) you'll certainly have a couple embarrassing slow-motion falls.  But hey, no reward without risk!

This is my first season with the club and doing races as well.  I'm with you one exploring new aspects of cycling.  Here here.

Welcome all!   Great to see all the fresh faces :)

Welcome to the club.
The best way I learned was to fall down a couple of times to overcome the fear.  Then clipping and de clipping came naturally.  Remember to practice in a park or a place with no cars.
I just want to introduce myself.
My name is Joseph Ng.  I am new to KCC.

I am looking forward to more group rides to better my bicycling endurance.  =)
Welcome Joe!
