Hey guys

11 at strictly sounds good

Norm, I'm going to give you a call in the morning when I wake up around 8 in the woods by 9w somewhere. Maybe I'll even run into you guys as you're going south on 9w

City lunch/ central park pinic sounds good. I'm really craving a chicken giro so it'll be simple for me

Lookin forward to seeing whoever comes out,
W
Wojciech --Excellent! I'll adjust my phone ringer to max volume so that I'll hear your call. If I fumble and don't answer, I'll call you back.

Everyone --come on out to Strictly Bicycles at 11am to meet Wojciech, welcome him home and escort our good man back into the city. Let's roll over to central park and eat some Gyros with Wojciech and listen to his wonderful tales from his magnificent journey!

***checkout the Group Ride thread to convene with others on any additional riding plans***
*** CROSS-POST from the Group Ride: AHOY ALL CHANGE-UP *** yes, a slight change-up... Wojciech says he can meet us in Piermont @ 10am. So that's that new plan.

I will be at BB/Bklyn @ 8am, GWB/NJ @ 9am, Piermont @ 10am. Kissena peloton with Wojciech back down 9W --with optional stop for lunch in Central Park.

*** one more thing *** Wojciech just called me to say that we'll still stop by Strictly Bicycles at 11am to meet anyone who's not riding to Piermont. So, I guess it's the original plan just with Wojciech along for more of the riding.
I was barfing all night, so I missed the Turkey Hill Classic. I'll try to make it up to Strictly, or at least CP.

Some things never change...^

Thanks Harry
I can't decide if you should go hang up that Nashbar touring frame or throw it over the railing into the abyss... Those tan lines are the envy of Oompa-Loompa's around the globe! Welcome back my friend...to the show that never ends....that's all I got.

I think I'm going to cover the chain/ derailleur in hairspray to seal it all in and preserve it.

Thankyou thankyou, I worked pretty hard to achieve them.
Again. Welcome back!

I'm happy to report that the Rock Store is still rocking.
Lots of hogs and lots of Minis yesterday.

The coastal fog rolling over the Malibu hills toward the Rock Store. It was a lovely day in LA.

Damn!
Albany - Buffalo Erie Canal Bike Trip

I'm doing this with my girlfriend, sister, brother-in-law, and some friends. If anyone wants in, just let me know.

So here are some more refined details:

Starting August 23rd, in Albany NY.
Reaching Buffalo by August 28-29th
Travel back next day. Or hang out.

FAQs:

Q: How do we get to the start? How do we get home?

Amtrak goes to both ends of the trip, but unfortunately their bike policies suck and they only have one train line that allows boxed bicycles. Boxing a bicycle is no big deal, and if you want to go that route, I'd be happy to help. Tickets are between $40-80 pp.

Rental cars seem reasonable. I checked out a mini van from Buffalo to NYC, and it looked like it'd cost about $150. 4 people and bikes can easily fit in one of those, so that is an affordable option.

How much do we ride per day?

The entire canal is 360 miles:

7 day trip: 51 miles per day
6 day trip: 60 miles per day

Right now committed riders are me, Bo, Justine and Greg. We can handle like 5 million miles per day so it's pretty much up to whoever else wants to come. No really, it's negotiable.

Can I do part of the trip?

Sure. You can just join us for any part of the trip. We have cell phones and such, so it won't be hard to meet up. Also, Amtrak pretty much parallels the route, so that would be easy enough.

How do we carry gear? What do I bring?

Since this will be what is called "credit card touring", it will be pretty light packing. We'll spend each night in a hotel and find a place to do a load of laundry so we can have nice clean stuff to wear the next day. We'll eat at restaurants so no worries about food. You'll need some clothes to wear at night, and some spare biking clothes, camera, etc. I think one of every two people can carry gear using panniers and a rack would be plenty. If you need details I'd be happy to help you figure it out.

Can I bring other people?

Sure!

OK, that is all. If you're interested, let me know, otherwise I'll stop bothering you :)

Best,
Mike
Awesome Mike! Enjoy

If it was more off-in-the-woods no shower for a week i'd be tottaly down
